"Hm… Hm… Hmmm!"
The loud mumble of Junk's words from Lilith's mouth made Morgana hasten her steps as she rushed inside the house, heading straight to the bed where she vigorously shook Lilith's shoulder with full force, jolting her out of her dream.
"Hm… Hm… Hmmm!"
"Wake up Lilith!" Morgana yelled as she firmly slapped Lilith's cheeks, prompting her to wake up, her eyes filled with confusion as she scanned the room, trying to know if she was currently in an unknown place.
As Morgana pulled Lilith into a hug, she began to gently caress Lilith's hair, but then she felt the intense gaze of people on her.
Shifting her gaze towards the door, a snarl appeared on Morgana's face as she realized that Lilith's neighbors were all staring at her.
"You all should leave and stop giving those creepy eyes." Morgana spat with clenched teeth.
They rolled their eyes at her as they sluggishly began to walk away, and soon they were out of Morgana's sight.
Exhaling!
After observing that Lilith's intense breath was returning to normal, Morgana smiled as she gently placed her hands on Lilith's shoulder, pulling away from her.
"What's wrong bestie?" Morgana asked, her voice filled with concern.
Lilith stretched out her hands towards her phone as she opened it and began typing on it. "I had a bad nightmare." Lilith typed, prompting Morgana to arch her brows at her because this was the very first time that she had witnessed Lilith having a nightmare.
"Nightmare?" She questioned just to make sure that she was seeing correctly and Lilith nodded her head in accordance with Morgana's question.
"What's the nightmare about?" Morgana interrogated.
Lilith shut her eyes as she tried to compose herself, and after a while, she opened her phone and typed.
"I met him." Lilith typed, her statement confusing Morgana even more.
"You met him?" Morgana questioned, repeating the phrase of Lilith. "Who exactly did you meet?" She added, her brows raised upwards as she glared intensely at Lilith.
Lilith forced her saliva down her throat as she dug her finger deep into her hair, pulling her beautiful curly ginger hair backwards.
As Lilith slid down from the bed, she strode towards her small refrigerator where she grabbed a bottle of water. "I met the man from earlier." She typed and stretched out her hands towards Morgana, waiting for her to rise from the bed to take the phone in her hands.
Morgana did as Lilith had intended and as she took the phone from Lilith, she immediately read the text message.
"Are you referring to the handsome man who you claimed was responsible for making you speak?" Morgana asked and Lilith nodded her head.
"So what happened in this so-called nightmare?" Morgana went on to interrogate Lilith as she handed over the phone to Lilith.
Lilith took the phone and immediately typed with her fingers very fast and delicately on her phone keyboard.
"I saw a man on a smoke-filled bridge," Lilith typed, her fingers trembling as she recounted the vivid details. "His clothes were torn, his white shirt stained with blood. His hair was disheveled, and his eyes were as dark and fathomless as the night sky."
Upon finishing, she held out her phone for Morgana to read, her friend's concerned gaze scanning the unsettling description.
"So what happened at the bridge?" Morgana asked, her voice was faint because she was beginning to doubt the so-called nightmare of Lilith because it was beginning to seem absurd.
On the other hand, Lilith wiped the previous text as she proceeded to type again.
"He kept walking through the smoke-filled bridge, but eventually, he stopped and stood before a towering inferno, a building consumed by flames.
As he halted, he turned around and his gaze locked onto mine, and in that instant, I saw his face, forever searing the terrifying image into my memory."
Morgana read the entire text but as she noticed that Lilith's hands were trembling even more, Morgana grabbed the phone from her friend. "Don't explain anything again," Morgana uttered, giving Lilith's palm a gentle squeeze.
"It's just a nightmare, Lilith. Don't take it to heart and besides, nightmares don't come true." Morgana said with a smile as she walked up towards Lilith's kitchen, opening the kitchen cabinet to grab two packs of noodles.
"How about you freshen up?" Morgana suggested, her gaze shifting toward the refrigerator as she retrieved a carton of eggs. "By the time you're done, I'll have a delicious meal ready for us."
Her words were met with a grateful nod from Lilith, who desperately craved the soothing warmth of a hot shower to wash away the remnants of her unsettling dream.
"Alright." Lilith signaled Morgana with her fingers and with that, she walked over to the bathroom where she took her bath.
As Lilith retreated to the bathroom, Morgana set to work in the kitchen.
Just as Morgana had promised, the noodles were already set on the dining table when Lilith stepped out of the bathroom.
"Don't get dressed unless the noodles get cold," Morgana suggested, staring at Lilith who looked refreshed from the warm bath that she had.
Ever since Morgana had saved Lilith from being hit by a car, she has become a mother figure to Lilith and she also played the role of a big sister and a best friend.
Lilith took her seat in the dining room and immediately dug in.
"Are you still going to the marketplace tonight to draw portraits of people or should we go to a club to clear your head?" Morgana asked Lilith as she ate her noodles.
Ever since Lilith took an interest in drawing, she began developing the habit of going to the market every night to perform as a street artist for people.
She draws comic portraits of individuals, their real portraits and she also draws whatever the individual describes to her, which was as long as she got paid.
Hearing Morgana's statement, Lilith couldn't help but nod her head as she stopped eating to grab her phone. "I have to earn a living so it's best I go to the market tonight. Besides, I have a good feeling that tonight will be great." Lilith typed.
Morgana couldn't help but scoff, shaking her head sideways.
After the meal, Lilith got dressed and Morgana also changed into a nice simple wear which she borrowed from Lilith.
After getting dressed, Lilith grabbed her drawing equipment.
"Can you help me carry that medicine that's on the bedside table?" Lilith typed, stretching out her hands to show her friend her text message.
Morgana walked towards the bedside table and grabbed the medicine. "Is this what you want me to carry?" She asked, raising the medicine towards the air.
Lilith nods, and Morgana frowns in return.
"I told you to throw these away last month, didn't I?" Morgana sighed. "Expired sleeping pills can have unpredictable effects on your mind, leading to all sorts of messed-up dreams."
Lilith's eyes widened in realization. She had indeed ignored Morgana's advice and now paid the price with a nightmarish experience.
The thought of ingesting something potentially harmful sent chills down her spine, and she silently vowed to be more vigilant in the future.
"Did you take this medicine before going to bed last night?" Morgana went on to ask, and Lilith softly nodded her head.
With a sneer, Morgana grabbed the pillow on the bed and she threw it at Lilith.
Silence…
Silence followed still as Lilith bit her lower lips in an apologist manner, and she believed that the medicine might be the one messing with her head.
"I'm throwing this away, so let's get going," Morgana uttered as she headed straight to the door while Lilith trailed behind her.
With Lilith's door in disrepair, they were forced to leave it closed but unlocked and with that they both headed off to the market, unaware that soon they would make a fateful bargain with darkness itself… for they shall sell their soul to the devil for the greed of money.
