Chapter 25 - Selfish

Aleyah opened her eyes slowly. Sleeping 8 hours and medication made her body and mood improve. But in reality Aleyah woke up happy not because of those two things but because she dreamed of Michael. She smiled broadly when she remembered how the man looked at her, the way he acted coldly towards her and just a little please could make the man obey her. Especially about last night, she couldn't forget his face, his voice, his sturdy body and his gaze. Aleyah kicked the blanket repeatedly and squealed with joy.

She turned around and screamed when she found someone beside her. "What the hell are you doing here!" she shouted as she stretched out her palm to the male ghost next to her.

The ghost disappeared but it appeared again in the corner of her room. He showed up in his final form when he died. A teenager who died from an incision that almost broke his neck. The male ghost felt his neck, moving it slightly to create the impression that his neck had been cut in half.

Aleyah immediately closed her eyes, "Go away!" she shooed him away. After that, she read the holy verses, prayers and verses that were on her mind. That's when the ring on Aleyah's finger shone brightly.

The male ghost couldn't take another step because of that ring. He started to get annoyed with the woman. She didn't even want to see him or hear what he wanted to talk about. "What's wrong with you? I just want to talk, I will not take over your body today. Just stop whatever you're doing right now." he said, trying to make Aleyah calm down.

"Yeah that's today, what about tomorrow?" Aleyah replied without opening her eyes in the slightest. "I'm not stupid, go away!" she shouted again at the ghost. But Aleyah's words did not have the power to exorcise the ghost as she wanted. What she had done so far was only able to make the ghosts leave her sight.

So the male ghost was still there and then he asked why she closed her eyes. Aleyah laughed a little, "What a stupid question, I couldn't stand looking at your looks so I closed my eyes."

The ghost uttered a long O sound. He nodded slightly as he floated in front of the mirror and saw what Aleyah had been seeing all this time. He returned to standing in front of the woman after a few seconds.

"Now open your eyes," said the male ghost. His voice was still the same, a slightly heavy voice mixed with mumbling which made his sentences a little unclear. Aleyah could feel the ghost approaching her because the hair on the back of her neck bristled.

"It's not scary anymore Aleyah, look at me carefully."

She opened her eyes, the appearance of the teenage boy with his neck almost cut in half was gone. Replaced with an ordinary teenager's appearance with pale skin without scars or blood spots, his neck was perfectly fused and his face was clean without the slightest sign of maggot infestation.

Wow, he can change his looks, she thought, a little amazed. This was the first time she saw a ghost that could change shape like the transformer robots she used to watch with his father in the past. The feeling of awe disappeared quickly after the ghost mentioned his request.

"I need to borrow your body. Just an hour, that's not a big deal, right?" he said as he walked back towards Aleyah.

Aleyah brought up the ghost's promise not to take over her body today. The ghost stopped when he heard it and decided to keep his own promise. However, what he did could not make the woman agree to his request.

Aleyah's anger rose again, "You think I'm some kind of money that can be borrowed?"

"Kinda?" answered the ghost after thinking for a while. This only made Aleyah annoyed because of his uncaring attitude. Aleyah got up from her bed. Steady her footing, prepare to fight with her arms still outstretched. "I want you to leave and never come back." she commanded.

"I can't do that, you have to help me." The ghost interrupted Aleyah's words by saying that Aleyah could help him just by lending her body.

"I can't, no, I won't help you. Tell your friends about that, don't come to me and make me chase them away again, I can't help them or you. Can you just leave me alone?"

Aleyah began to despair, she tried to erase the ghost's memories of her last moments from her head. Try not to feel sorry for the ghost's bad luck. Her life and fate was more important, she had to stick to it.

"I know that man." The ghost replied suddenly in a serious voice. It makes Aleyah stop mumbling the exorcist verse. The ghost raised his face and then he stare closely to Aleyah's beautiful brown eyes, "He was the one that caused my death."

Aleyah gasped in surprise. "He? Who do you mean exactly?" she asked suspiciously.

The ghost pointed to a white cellphone which was located on the table. He explains that the person is there and all Aleyah needs to do is see it and then help him hand over the evidence to the police.

"It's simple!" shouted the ghost because Aleyah still refused to help him.

"No! It's never that simple!" Aleyah shouted back. She patted her chest repeatedly, "My heart is still beating, I am still alive and I have a life to take care of. I have to think about my future, my family and my safety. This body is mine!"

The ghost was silent for a moment. He looked at Aleyah's appearance carefully. Her body did look sick and thinner, apparently it was because of him and to be honest he felt a little regretful. But his determination to catch the man was still strong, "Yeah but at least you are still alive. You don't know what it's like to be trapped in a world with no purpose."

Aleyah tightened her jaw. "You vengeful evil spirit. So this is what you mean by needing help? Take revenge on the person who killed you so you can die in peace."

The ghost grinned. "You've known that for a long time, Aleyah. There's only one reason that keeps me chasing that bastard. You already found out about the ring and you're standing in front of me acting like a fool! I already showed you how desperate I was but you didn't care at all!"

"I just don't want to deal with the issue of why you died!"

What happened to the ghost is none of her business. They are just strangers that accidentally met in a very strange situation. Aleyah takes a step forward and stares at the ghost eyes bravely. "You should know one thing. You are already dead. You're time is up and I won't give mine. There is no use helping an evil spirit like you. You come and go all you want just to ruin my life. Now I need you to go, just get lost!"

The ghost clenched his fists. His body was covered in a blue-black light again. His physique returned to its original shape. Slashed neck and his bluish pale skin made him look hideous. "You are the most selfish person I met," the ghost's tone hinted at disappointment.

"You don't care about other people or anything. You're bullshit. You hear me? Bullshit!"

Aleyah looked at something else and was reluctant to respond to the ghost's words anymore. The ghost sighed again. "Has it ever crossed your mind? That there must be a reason why you have this miracle. Being able to see us and talk with us. And be able to help us. Have you ever thought about it? This whole time, all you do is feel sorry for yourself and blame others for your misfortune. I hate the fact that you can help other spirits like me but you're too afraid to do it."

Aleyah shook her head. She didn't want to hear anything else. "Just go away."

The ghost didn't say anything else after that. After the debate, the ghost floated through the wall to the sky until he completely disappeared from Aleyah's sight.
