Chapter 16 - Publicity

VOOM!

Bullseye!

The light bulb shattered to pieces in one hit.

"…"

"…"

"…..!"

The spectators at this moment were flabbergasted.

An extremely excited Lucius Volstad immediately turned towards his cameraman again. "Tell me you got that; tell me you did!"

The cameraman gave a thumbs up. "I got it".

"Yes!" He pumped his fist in excitement.

At this moment, Lucius Volstad didn't seem like such a bigshot talented mech designer, rather he seemed just like a mech enthusiast living the dream.

As for the other administrators of the Lucius Industries who were present today, they were all stunned.

Before today, they already got footage of all previous tests that the boss organized, they knew how awful a mech pilot Andrew was at the beginning.

How on earth did he improve so much in such little time?

Their eyes widened. 'The boss' experiment was a success'.

'He's created a monster!'

'The only question is…, is it sustainable?'

While Lucius Volstad and his administrators reacted to what they just saw, still inside the cockpit of the Poseidon's Gaze V-I, Andrew finally deactivated his neural connection from the mech but he didn't leave yet.

Closing his eyes, Andrew reflected back to that moment.

In that moment when he pulled the trigger of the Laser Rifle, Andrew felt different, he did not feel like himself.

It was as if he became someone else.

'What was that?' He thought.

Since reincarnating into this world, apart from working as a mech technician, he rarely had any other thing to do.

He had never held a pistol before since his reincarnation, so how?

Thinking back, despite how much suffering he passed through in his previous life and how miserable his life was, he never held a pistol to, so just how?

And then, he remembered something.

Andrew's eyes widened. 'The previous owner of my body!'

'They said he was a veteran policeman,' inside the cockpit of this mech, Andrew looked at his hand. 'That sensation, was it from him?'

'Is this what they call…, muscle memory?'

As he thought of it, without hesitation, using his integrated computer system, Andrew immediately accessed the internet for clarification.

There, he got what he was looking for.

Muscle memory is the ability to reproduce a particular movement without conscious thought, acquired as a result of frequent repetition of that movement.

If the previous owner of his body had used this body of his to pull the trigger numerous times before, was that what influenced him?

If so, why did this influence him only when he piloted a Rifleman mech?

Why did he not experience something similar while piloting the Knight mech?

Again, Andrew had so many questions but he knew that he could not get the answer to his questions now.

Thankfully, he now had a personal mech for himself.

Seeking answers was easier now.

And finally, the test came to an end, Lucius Volstad dismissed everyone.

While Andrew left to his room to go rest from the mental exertion of the morning, Lucius Volstad escorted the cameraman to his office instead.

Right there in the office, under his guidance, the cameraman edited the footages of today's test into short clips.

And through the CCTV footage of the previous tests, the cameraman also edited short clips, compiling them together into a reel.

Seeing the video reel, Lucius Volstad's smile widened.

"Good job". He complemented.

Once the cameraman left his office, Lucius Volstad finally accessed his computer. The first recipient of this video reel was a familiar name.

~1 file has been sent to Dr. Garp successfully!~

Lucius Medical Center, Dr. Garp Johnstone's office…

Beep!

As soon as the middle-aged doctor got the notification on his computer, he clicked on it then opening the video file, he smiled immediately.

Watching the progress of his patient from a suddenly pathetic mech pilot back to an elite mech pilot, a bright smile blossomed across this doctor's face.

This was why he would never stop being a doctor.

That feeling of watching your patients survive cruel disasters then pick themselves up from the depths of hell, making a comeback, it was addictive.

"I wish you Goodluck Andrew," He smiled. "Complete your comeback!"

After sending the first file to Dr. Garp of his medical center, Lucius Volstad sent another video file towards another person, his connection in the media.

~1 file has been sent to Faith Media successfully!~

This simple action of sending the file created a frenzy within just 2 hours in the internet, taking the Philadelphus District by storm.

Lucius Volstad was a mech designer, but inherently, he was also a businessman.

Watching Andrew's progress, he saw an opportunity and he pounced on it.

He decided to use this video file as a publicity stunt.

Despite how advanced this world was compared to Earth where Andrew came from, certain rules still applied here.

People here still loved the underdog story.

By providing the edited video reel to the internet, he gave the people something to root for. A mech pilot who suffered a tragedy and was striving to make his comeback was a story that resonated with the public.

Of course, Lucius Volstad's plan worked.

The video became trending within just an hour of its online release.

While Andrew was sleeping in his room, recuperating from his mental exertion, unknown to him, his name was already trending in the internet.

Lucius Volstad's plan was not so simple though.

His real plan was to kill 2 birds with one stone. By getting the public's interest on Andrew piqued, it would draw more attention to his human-machine interaction project and how the first time it was a success.

Lucius Volstad hoped that this way, the government would sanction his proposals finally to get more voluntary test subjects for his project.

He had such high hopes for his research project this time.

He felt that if the government let him have his way with this research project, he would finally improve enough to realize his design seed, upgrading to become an even better mech designer.
