Chapter 2: A warmth- filled friendship
Ava laughed as they ran. After they had run inside the school hallway, Ava turned to the little guy.
"Hey", she said and walked closer to him. She removed her coat and gave it to him
"It's cold. Cover up".
"Thanks", the boy said with his hoarse voice. "Next time, you fight back. Don't keep still. They'll come back again and again if you bow", Little Ava told him
"I know", he said.
"And you let them?", she asked as she shot her brows up.
"It's fine. I'm here for you now. I'll fight them off for you, ok?", she added consolingly
A slight smile graced the boy's little lips. "Thanks again for that but I'm the one who's meant to protect you. I'm the guy here", he said his male ego kicking in.
"If that's the case, we should just protect each other", she said smiling. Her smile being as infectious as it can be.
"I'm Ava Bateman"
"Kyle Compton. Thanks for saving me Ava", he appreciated
"That's ok. We're friends now", she said her cute smile never waning.
"But, are you really the headteacher's daughter?", Kyle asked
"Headteacher? Who's that? I have a dad but I don't know him as the headteacher", Ava said her coffee brown eyes darting from side to side.
Kyle couldn't help it and burst out laughing. " The nerve of you to do something like that"
" Those guys deserve a scare. They'll not only have to behave but they'll start calling me mummy", she said with a smirk that Kyle found funny.
" You're so funny. Do you always do things like this? Scaring people away like that?", he asked. The girl was quite friendly. This made Kyle comfortable.
"No. I was just checking something out", she said.
Kyle looked at her with an arched brow. Ava couldn't stand the questioning look that he was giving her. "You're gonna catch a cold if you keep staring like that. Better go change and don't worry, you can keep the jacket", she said and ran off.
" Hey! ", Kyle yelled after her
"Don't worry. I'll find you after class", she replied without looking back
Few hours later, school for the day came to an end. Ava rushed from her class to Kyle's class. Reaching his table, she made her presence known by drumming on his desk. This earned her an audience from him. "Hey, what are you doing here?",
"Let's go home together", she said her voice a bit loud. The other pupils looked at them. Ava arched a brow at them and then at Kyle.
"Hey! You guys should clear your mind from naughty stuffs. Why're you looking at me like that?"
The others turned back to their businesses muffling their laughter.
"Hey, why're they laughing at me? Did I say something wrong?"
Kyle chuckled. He slinged the school bag behind him and looked at her.
"Naughty stuffs? Really?"
"Yeah. They were all looking at me with some kind of...crazy looks? I didn't like that".
" You're the naughty one", he said and ran off.
" Kyle! Better stop there! ", she yelled and ran after him.
And under this cold weather, a friendship filled with warmth was built.
