Chapter 4: The transfer student
"You stupid girl! How could you be so unlucky?!", the games coach reprimanded the student in front of him.
The girl with her head bowed, repeated the sentence, "I'm sorry", for the umpteenth time which infuriated the coach further more.
"You let that stupid girl get the cup? What have you been doing on the team?"
"I'm sorry sir".
" Stop with your sorry. I'll slap you if you say it once more".
Silence.
"Leave the team", the coach said.
This was like a bomb to her ears. This was the last thing she wanted to hear. She didn't want to leave the team. She's been on this game all her life. This wasn't what she wanted. If she left the team, then her future...
"Sir... Can I ask you for a favor?"
The coach almost vomited blood. She lost an important game but still has the cheek to ask for a favor? How audacious!
"It'll be helpful".
The coach looked at her questioningly.
"How helpful can you be?"
"Don't look down on me sir. I'm worth more than you think"
The man arched a brow.
"Show me then".
"But first, I have to meet with the dean".
Crestwood College.
It was a new day and a new week and a new month. The whole school was bustling to the return of their 'queen of tennis', Ava Bateman. This was just her second year at Crestwood College but she already got them this national honor. A lot of congratulations flooded her ears as she walked down the hallway with her best friend, Kyle Compton. Ava was happy and accepted their good wishes with enthusiasm meanwhile, Kyle just kept a straight face.
Here at Crestwood College, no levels were given to anyone, whether you're pretty or rich or handsome but on Kyle Compton's part, he was an exception to that rule. He was considered to be above the rule. However, he wasn't friendly to anyone. He was this arrogant fellow who always got what he wanted and wasn't cut out to answer to anyone. He was only friendly to Ava, his bestie and no other. His emerald green eyes were always cold to behold accompanied by that solid face and well carved nose. His lips were ravishingly kissable but no girl could give testimony of it as he hadn't had any close relationship with anyone before. He was only best friends with Ava since childhood and has strictly abided by that friendship rule. No deep feelings.
"You're really a queen aren't you?", Kyle said when they reached their locker.
"I guess. The 'God of games' is really favorable to me".
Kyle chuckled.
" But you know that this is where the real game begins. You'll have lots of rivals, enemies and friends including wannabes ".
Ava sighed and kept her bag inside her locker as she took out the books she needed.
"I don't even want to think about that. Let's just look at the bright side", she said with her sunshine smile. Kyle shrugged.
"Ok then, Miss queen. Just remember that you have me by your side. If it ever gets tough, just let me know".
"Of course. Even if I'm the cause of the trouble, I will still find you".
"You say the worst things you know right?" Ava chuckled and stuck out tongue before running away for her class. They were in two different departments though they shared some courses. Kyle was in the medical department, studying gynaecology while Ava was in the arts department, studying designing, Interior design to be specific. Kyle always teased her about her course as she was always carefree about things. She can be clumsy and careless sometimes. The only place where she's perfect is in lawn tennis. Even Ava herself didn't know why she chose interior design or maybe she did it so that she could have something to study in school and graduate with a certificate.
Midway through lectures, a commotion was heard outside. At the school's entrance. Tim, the popular blogger at Crestwood College was already on his screen, with that flawless smile if his began spreading the news about the reason of the commotion. There was a new student in campus. A transfer student.
The transfer student didn't expect such commotion at her arrival but was pleased though. She assessed the school environment and was a tad pleased. She walked towards the school office but halted in her steps when she saw the most handsome guy she had ever seen in her life.
Her eyes were glued to him and followed his every move.
Kyle Compton felt his skin getting scorched from the gaze of whoever it was. He turned around. His emerald green eyes landed on those bright blue ones. He arched a brow as he looked at her.
The transfer student could feel her heart shift as the guy's gaze was directed towards her. Those eyes were the coldest she'd ever seen but the most beautiful. She tried to move but she couldn't. That guy must have some magic to put her in this state.
"Are you lost?", a deep male voice sounded in her ears making insides as wet as mush. She looked and...oh my god! Those cold emerald green eyes were almost engulfing her bright blue ones. She swallowed at what Kyle described as visibly.
"I...think I'm" she said, her cheeks becoming rosy all of a sudden.
"Follow me".
"Ok".
The duo walked in silence. Kyle wasn't one to talk and the girl was also new to the school meanwhile, she was walking with a 'god'. It won't be nice to chat it away while sharing some stupid talks.
The appearance of the duo at the school hallway attracted the attention of students. This, another commotion ensued but Kyle didn't care.
Kyle Compton was never seen to be walking with another girl except Ava but now...the new student??
"Do they know each other?"
"Why's she walking with him?"
"I hate her already. She's not even arrived and she's already hanging out with Compton?"
"I guess she also got that Kyle effect".
The side talks continued till the duo couldn't hear it anymore.
"This is the dean's office", he announced as soon as he arrived in front of the office.
"Oh... thanks".
"Mm", he said and was going to walk away.
The girl reached out as if pushed by something and grabbed his hands into her slender ones. Her heart skipped a bit as she realized how strong the man's hands were.
"I'm Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn Hart".
"Ok", he said and freed his hands from hers.
"Can I get yours?"
He looked at her. "We're not close enough to share stuffs like that".
