Chapter 3: The queen of the Lawn returns
10 years later
"Hey! Can't you move any faster?!", the young girl who looked to be in her early twenties yelled at the car that stood in front of her for the past five minutes. The traffic lights already said go but the owner of the red Ferrari seemed to have developed color blindness all of a sudden. Ava wished she could smack the idiot on the head but kept her cool. She didn't want to ruin her reputation yet as she was still a cub in stardom. She had won the National Lawn Tennis competition that was held at Las Vegas recently, making a name for herself. She had put in her best and was grateful to the 'God of games' for His favors.
The red Ferrari finally moved and soon she was racing through Tania's route one of the popular streets of California. The thought of coming home after a whole year made her feel that home was always the best place.
It has always been.
She would have driven home but her mind seemed to be in control of the steering wheels, taking her to somewhere else.
The whole manor was dead silent like there was no living person in the place. Only the chirping of birds and the swishing of the trees to music of nature that was heard. However, this pin drop quietude was soon disrupted by the loud engines coming from the white saloon car with the Avalon brand. Kyle Compton who was in the back lounge swore to the heavens as he knew who the culprit was. He grabbed his house robe and left to see the noise maker.
"There you are!", Ava exclaimed the moment he appeared in front of her.
"Why are you always so noisy?", Kyle asked with his brows arched.
"Oh come on! I just came back from Las Vegas and you didn't even bother to pick me up. The least I could do is to disrupt your quietude".
"Really now? You're punishing me? "
"You think that's a punishment? ", Ava asked with a scoff. "That's not. 'Cause you're the first to see me after my competition. I drove from the airport you punk!". She widened her eyes on the last statement giving Kyle a cue to take a step back.
"But you didn't even tell me to pick you up", he complained.
"But you knew that I would be back today. You should've come".
"But I didn't. I'm sorry ", he apologized and opened his arms for her to receive a hug from him.
"Yuck", was Ava's comment while pushing him aside to go into the house.
Kyle walked in after her apologizing as they walked while Ava pretended not to hear it.
