The creaking and shutting of the RV door woke Luna, who had only been lightly sleeping. She had tried to stay awake that night while trying to make herself look and sound like she was in a deep sleep. She had started dozing off there toward the end.
Tonight was a full moon and she wanted to check if her suspicions were correct. She pulled the blanket off of her and climbed out of the bed as quietly as she could. She was dressed in her pajama shorts and light, long-sleeved shirt with a hood, and of course, the small quartz necklace she always wore for emergencies.
She glanced to the back of the RV and saw that the bedroom door was ajar. The shadowy forms of Simon and Carl were absent, and the bed looked as if it hadn't been used.
