"Native American," Lyla corrected. "My father is of Hopi descent. He and my grandmother moved to California when he was in high school. That's where he met my mother," she started explaining in a monotone voice.
"Hopi?" Isaac questioned rather loudly, a confused look twisting his face.
"My maternal grandfather was transferred to the subsidiary company here by the parent-holder. Because it was supposed to be a three-year transfer, his wife and daughter moved with him." Lyla's life story was summed up in a recap that sounded like it had been read from a book. It was completely dispassionate and rudimentary as if it were a stranger that was speaking.
Elder Jackson laughed good-naturedly and the sound reverberated throughout the small, enclosed space. "Another thing to note is that Skin-walkers have to feed on human hearts to survive."
