Chapter 3 - A Friend

I had finally left that rotting place of human waste, no more disgusting stench and no more feces floating around the water. I felt like I had finally taken a real breath but my stench… Was less than appealing. I walked across the road and the people who were passing by called out my disgusting smell from miles away.

"TAKE A SHOWER YOU DAMN FREAK!"

I do not blame them, though. This was all my fault to begin with, no in reality, it was all Ausha's fault for attempting to murder me and letting my body fall into that disgusting place! Sigh… Why does it matter? Once I arrive at my destination I will be berated by all kinds of insults and swears. It made me wish that I took a different path but this one was going to be the most efficient.

As I walked by the street, I came across an old bus stop with not a person being around it. Its age could be noticed easily, the rust on the waiting seats had taken place. The glass that once covered the back and left side of the bus stop and with a flat stone pavilion on top covering it from the rain although it was slightly damaged and riddled with cracks.

I sat down on one of the seats and patiently waited for a bus to come and one did arrive less than 10 minutes later. My eyes studied it up and down, arriving at the conclusion that it was an old model possibly created during the 2000's up to 2010. The door of the bus cracked open and the bus driver waved at me.

"Greetings lad, you have somewhere to go?"  Asked the driver with joy.

"Yes but I do hope you don't mind m-"

"Oh don't worry about money, that thing is basically worthless to me now!"

He began to laugh like a grandfather with his grandchildren. My attempts to understand him were futile and as I entered the bus he did not even complain about my smell at all.

"Where to?"

"Please take me to Las Vegas."

"You sure lad…? I am not saying you cannot handle yourself but that place has a bad reputation and all."

"Do not worry about me, I'll make sure to repay you in some way."

"Alright then, that was my destination either way."

My left hand gently patted his shoulder as I made my way towards the end of an empty bus with blue colored seats that were peculiarly soft. As I sat down, my eyes could finally rest for a little while.

While the time had passed seemingly right before my eyes, my body had drifted asleep without knowing how long for. I felt as if I had lowered my guard for far too long when my senses picked up that something was trying to touch me. The aggressor's hand was grabbed by me with a tight grip but as I woke up, I met eyes with the bus driver. I let his hand go almost immediately.

"Sorry for startling you Lad."  Rubbing his hand, the driver smiled but I could feel that his hand was hurting.

"I sincerely apologize for causing harm to you, good sir."

"No no! I just came to say that we have arrived in Las Vegas just as you requested. You were sleeping for the past 6 hours so I didn't wish to bother ya!"

My eyes looked outside the window just to see the blinding lights of the city known for its magic. I breathed a sigh of relief, getting up as my right hand tapped the driver's shoulders and telling him to follow me. We arrived at the nearest bank, which unsurprisingly was not that far away.

"Lad what are we doing here?"

"Patience."

The two of us walked inside and I could tell all the big shots were about to vomit from my disgusting smell as my body stopped right in front of the bank clerk. With one smell she inhaled she felt sick but had to do her job. No matter how disgusting the customer was.

"H-How can I h-help you sir?"

"Withdraw, 10,000 US $, bank account number 921402."

"Lad what are you-!?"

"Patience."

"W-We are very sorry Mr.Kingspon! The withdrawal is completed."

The bank clerk slid the check for 10,000$ under the small glass cut off like a half circle. My hands gently grabbed the check and walked out with the bus driver. With a quick motion, my body stopped outside the bank with the driver doing the same as I turned and handed him it.

"This is for your troubles and retirement, I cannot give you more than this as I'll draw too much unwanted attention."

"I cannot accept this!"

"Take it as a sign of respect for allowing me to rest and for showing me the same amount of respect back by bringing me here. Enjoy a good life."

I brushed off his shoulders as I walked away waving, my alias "Kingspon" was nothing more than one of the 10 hidden accounts I possess under different names. Banks, Passports, IDs, Drivers Licenses. I was always prepared no matter what.

I walked through the concrete sidewalks that were almost as clean as the tallest buildings in this city where greed is the only thing that wins. Truth be told, I understand why people loved this place, it has the looks, it has the chance to win and people love taking chances but those who did now live to regret it.

Homelessness in this place was at its peak, many suicides following suit. I despise this place for the upkeep of a false facade that could lead to people's downfalls but who am I to judge? Noone that's who I am.

People threw a glance at me from time to time and by no means am I ugly but they kept a certain distance from me. Understandable, even I wouldn't approach someone who smells like the rotting feces of a corpse but I had finally arrived at my destination. The Glamorous Peacock.

My hands pushed open the doors just to see exotic dancers, topless maids and whatever not in this place but once they saw me, they couldn't take their eyes off of me. One of the maids, no less than 23-25 years old, approached me.

"Sorry sir but we do not accept Homeless people here."

I had no interest in her but as I was about to respond, I heard a familiar laugh.

"Joanna, you better not say that to a person of his status!" A feminine voice was heard giggling to herself.

"But Mistress Vesper!"

"Alright everybody! Back to your place, he is just another guest of ours!"

With everyone returning to what they were doing, I suppose an introduction to who this woman is needed. Vesper, one of the most wealthy businesswomen across the underworld, owns different kinds of weapon trade routes and with enough connections and firepower to go against a country on her own. The friendship we developed had been through mutual benefit and sometimes assisted each-other officially. Her eyes met mine as she giggled with her fingers pointing at me to come meet her.

I followed her hint with her bodyguards opening the door without as much as a drop of resistance. The door was covered in golden foxes, with the hall to her personal studio following the same patterns. Weapons of all ages mounted onto walls, animal heads, armors, paintings and whatever not. I knew she was a bit of a collector but this was oddly surprising and beautiful at the same time. At the end of that hallway, My eyes were met with another door and as I pushed it open with my hands, I saw Vesper looking directly at me.

"Ah you finally came. Thank god."

"Vesper, we have a lot to discus-"

"Apapa! No talking until you."

Before she finished her sentence she moved to the side and pointed at a luxurious bath tub with a smile on her face.

"I refuse to do business with those who cannot even keep their hygiene up." She chuckled to herself with a smile as I followed up by a sigh but she was known to be a perfectionist and fashionista at times.
