"Then I will do my utmost to protect you," Eve asserted with resolve. "As long as you remain faithful and keep working for me." She saw no reason to reject this arrangement, as it would clearly be to her benefit.
"I will," Trinity assured her. Confusion spread across her face when Eve suddenly seized her arm, prompting a startled gasp.
"You will not betray me," Eve stated keenly.
"I would never - what is this?" Trinity's eyes grew wide as she watched a black knife take form in Eve's hand. Before she could ask any further, Eve used the knife to make a small incision in Trinity's bare arm. She then pricked her own finger, placing a drop of her blood onto the cut.
"You are a..."
"You sought me out for freedom... and I intend to help you," Eve interjected. "Though I believe you've told the truth, trust is a luxury I can't afford. By mingling a portion of my blood with yours, we're now bound. Do you understand what this means?"
