"Oh he's awake. You guys should be able to talk to him but if I feel like you're pressurizing him, I'll have you guys kicked out of the hospital. Yes, I don't care if you are from the police department.", the cute nurse said as she let two people into the ward.
The two guys were, in fact pretty muscular as their black suits looked like they were about to tear at any given moment.
As they approached Liam, they took out a notepad and spoke, "You were the one who made the call. Before we start with the case, ahem, congrats on surviving."
Liam blinked twice before he nodded, "Oh. Thanks a lot."
"Mhm. Anyways, we got most of the information about the stuff that happened back at the girl's house, directly from her so there is no need for you to say much. Ow, why did you hit me?", the comparatively slimmer guy angrily looked at his partner who had an annoyed look on his face.
Snatching the notepad from the slimmer guy, he looked at Liam, "We don't really have to but we should record your words too. It's a part of our jobs. But before we do that, unless we get proof that those guys were actually doing the things you claimed they were, we won't be able to do much. So proof is very important.
If not, they'll claim that you set them up and can escape prison."
Liam nodded when he heard the guy's words and picked up his phone that was placed on the table before playing the audio that he had recorded.
It took the four of the people in the room a few minutes to listen to the entire audio and once the recording stopped, the beefier cop had a wide grin plastered on his face.
"Now that's what I'm talking about. Those scum won't be able to escape our clutches hahaha.", he said as he patted Liam's shoulder, only to receive a smack to the back of his head by the nurse who was staring daggers at him.
"Ah haha...", he let out an awkward chuckle before he addressed Liam once more, "Now, share the audio recording with me and that should be enough. While the file is getting transferred, you'll just have to tell us what you saw and what you did back at that girl's house."
Nodding, Liam did as he was told and sent the file to the cop, which took a while and as that was going on, he made up a story that wouldn't get him in trouble.
"I got a message from a guy who asked me to save his sister. His name is Liam and he left this planet to move to another one. You should know about him since he's the top scorer of the academy's preliminary exam.", he said and the other three in the room nodded while the bulky guy began to note things down.
"I actually owe him a bit and I would say that we are friends. He was my first friend since the time I came to the city a few months ago. I used to life in the hill not too far from here and well, he kinda did help me get adjusted to the towns and cities here. I still have a long way to do but it's all thanks to him that I was able to learn so much in such little time.
So yeah, I felt like I owed him so I went ahead and tried to see what was going on, only to hear them talking about the stuff that you heard just now. So I decided to record it and move in when something serious happened.",
The slim cop nodded his head with a serious expression on his face, "Well, at least it turned out well....", he said but then turned to look at his partner with a hesitant look on his face.
"Don't give me that look, Jamie. It's our duty to tell him what happened now that he is involved in this incident even more than we expected.", his partner said before he turned to look at Liam, "The girl's parent's were nowhere to be found when we arrived. The girl just doesn't tell us too much even though we assured her that she won't be in any danger but she doesn't listen.
She just told us about what happened before and after she was drugged with chloroform but when we asked her about her parents, she just went silent. It would be helpful if you told us what you knew."
Liam stayed silent for a while as his brain went on an overdrive, trying to figure out why his sister never told the cops about what happened.
'Ah yes... she has no proof so the court won't take her words seriously. In the end, she would have ended up back with her parents and this time, they'll probably do more than just hit her.', he thought as his anger flared.
With a frown on his face, he looked at the cops, "Will that really be of help? I'm a stranger and my words can just be thrown to the side if her parents say that they never saw me. Liam is in a different planet altogether so he can't really participate. So if you ever did find her parents, you'll just be putting her in danger by talking about it in the court.
Sure, her father will be thrown in the prison because we have the proof but what about her mother? That woman is obsessed with her husband and if she knows that her daughter said something against her love, she will not stop at just physical harassment.
Will you take responsibility if someone found that girl's body on a random street? Tell me."
No one spoke after Liam was done speaking. The cops had their heads hung low while the nurse simply stayed silent as her eyes darted between the saline pack that was hanging beside Liam's bed to his muscular looking arms.
