Chapter 8 - Mother's embrace

Xian blinked her eyes and saw the open field deep in the woods that was being surrounded by a thick gray fog.

She blinked again and again but the scene keep appearing in her mind.

Xian saw the open field that she was used to live in, the two story house that has a brown and red bricked as an exterior and the red roof with a chimney. She also saw the training field and the small farm field.

This was her home!

'Did I turned back time?' Xian questioned her head as she slowly approached the door of the house. Infront of the door, she felt that her heart was pounding that she can clearly hear it.

Then, she tilted the brass doorknob with trembling hands and curious face.

Click!

She opened the door to the interior of her house, the hallway is what it used to be, the door that lead to living room, the stairs that lead to the second floor, and the bow that was being hanged in the wall of the hallway.

Gulp!

Xian gulped a mouthful of saliva as sweat fall from her forehead. Without waiting any further, she inspected the first room, the living room where the two of them used to be sitting at before the tragedy.

Thud!

Xian hurriedly opened the door that her strength cause the door to have a crack.

To her surprise, inside the living room was the same as it was before but the walls are still intact and not destroyed like it was used to be after the tragedy.

Xian eyes quickly examined the inside of this room and saw that it was really the same as it was before.

'It was really the same as before.' Xian said in her mind.

Then, out of nowhere, she heard a click of a door that was being opened.

"Someone's here?!" She said in surprised then her surprised turned into fear.

'Who was it? I didn't hear any footsteps nor smell anything!' She thought before light weighing her footprints as she walked to the door.

With caution, she peeked outside the door of the leaving room and what she encountered surprised the hell out of her.

Stood at the entrance of the house, at the door was a woman who was nearly two meter tall, black raven hair that cascaded until her waist and a sharp eye that seems unalive.

"M-Mother!" Xian shouted then hurriedly came to her mother's side without thinking of anything else even threats that can cause her danger.

She dashed and hugged her mother tightly without caution, she was like a child who lost her mother and founded her mother again.

Tears fell from her eyes to the ground as she tightly hugged Xen who was standing still there.

Xian looked up at her mother with tear in her eyes. She was surprised that her mother didn't show any signs of emotions.

Xen stood there being hugged and looked upon without expression in her face, her sharp eyes were blank as she glanced at her daughter that was tightly hugging her.

She didn't speak as she glanced at this child.

Xian on the other hand didn't care about this as she hugged her mother, embracing the smell that she thought that she will forgotten, the softness of her chest was being wet by the tears of this child.

Xen stood there, and after a while, Xian looked at her mother again and questioned. "W-what's wrong mother?"

Xen didn't answered, not even opening her mouth, she just stood there like a statue.

'Wierd, mother's not like this.' Xian thought as she let go of her mother.

Her mother on the other hand, after being let go, she walked past Xian and went to the living room, she sat at one of the sofa and stared blankly at the unlit fireplace.

Xian followed her mother as she also sat at the sofa. She sized up her mother from head to toe.

'Something is really wrong.' She thought and said. "Mother, nod if you can understand me."

Xian waited to her mother's response but Xen didn't even looked at her as she continued to blankly stare at the unlit fireplace.

"Hm, oh! Yeah I know, you're probably a product of that bracelet." She said before looking at her left wrist.

She was surprised to see nothing but a black fiber that was part of her long sleeves.

"Huh? Where's it? She questioned, then she glanced at the window and saw nothing but a thick gray fog at the distance.

"I should explore and inspect this place. That bracelet must hiding somewhere." She said before standing up and looked at her mother again. "I'll come back mother."

Then, she left the living room and went to the other rooms inside the house. She discovered that every room was the same as before, the rooms was also clean and so, boring.

"Time to check my room." She said infront of her bedroom. She opened the door and walked inside. Stood there are bed, table with drawer, and cabinet.

"Nothing's new here also. The bracelet is nowhere to be found too." Xian said as she glanced at the opened window, outside was the same thick gray fog that surrounds the field.

"It's wierd that I can't hear nor smell anything besides surroundings field." She said and decided. "I'll check the outside then."

With that, she faded from her spot and appeared just below her bedroom's window. She glanced at the storage room and inspected it.

"The same as before." She said before walking just before the gray fog. She touched the thick fog and felt that her body was being drained by the fog.

"Sh*t!" She cursed but the thick gray fog was slowly enveloping her arm before enveloping her whole body.

"N-no, m-my transendance power is not working also!" She shouted, her other hand was trying to reach for something to grab on.

"H-help!" She shouted for the last time, then suddenly, her hand that was reaching for something finnaly grabbed a real thing.

It was a mixture of softness and roughness that she instantly felt from the thing she wa grabbing.

'Hand?' She thought then remembered that her mother exist to this place. She shouted for help. "Mother!"

Then, in an instance, she was pulled from the gray thick fog and fell to the ground. She also felt that her transcending power was coming back to her again very quickly.

"That was close." She said as she looked at her surroundings then saw her mother who was staring at her blankly.

"T-thanks mother." She thanked as she stood up. She looked at her mother again and slowly approach the being.

She hugged her mother yet again before looking up.

"What's this place exactly?" She asked but not expecting for an answer.

She let go of her mother who was looking at her blankly and grabbed the latter's hand and lead her mother to the house again.

After a while, they arrived at the living room again, she let go of her mother's soft yet rough hand before sitting at one of the sofa.

Her mother on the other hand, didn't sat down, instead, she walked outside and went to the small farm land.

"Mother?" Xian questioned before deciding to follow her mother.

She saw that her mother was watering the vegetables at the small farmland. She observed her mother for some time and concluded finally that her mother was like a puppet.

It was doing what she was doing in the past, probably excluding when she was hunting. Her mother was expressionless and emotionless like a real puppet.

'Sigh... Mother' looked at her surroundings again before looking at her left wrist.

"This was probably a special space... But how can I go back without that bracelet?" She questioned and to her surprise, she saw her mother pointing at the thick gray fog while staring at her.

"Huh? There?" Xian asked in confusion

Her mother didn't answer this time with gesture as she continued to care for her plants.

"For real?" She said before sighing. She decided to trust her mother because of course it's her mother but she can't help to worry about her decision.

'If it's you mother, then I'll trust, but what if it's not really you.' She thought before deciding finnaly to go.

"Then, I'll go now mother." She said as she walked at the edge of the field where there was the thick gray fog.

"And im sure I'll see you again if I activated the bracelet again." With that being said, she let the thick fog to envelope her.

She felt that her transcending power was being drained instantly but she didn't escape like last time. She let the gray fog obstruct her vision and after a while, she opened her eyes to see the same room she rented in.

By now, the pale moon was hanging above the sky and the room was enveloped by darkness.

"I really came back... But there was no crazy murmurings this time when I came back." She said before looking at her left wrist.

She sighed of relief to see her silver bracelet again.

"Whew, I thought I lose you." She said before caressing the silver bracelet.

But, what she felt is not the cold silver, but an empty air. She looked at her bracelet again and saw a whirl like illusion that was enveloping her right hand.

"Wh-what?" She questioned herself before pulling the right hand.

She pulled it safely and saw nothing change.

"What's that?" She said then an idea struck her mind.

She hurriedly untied her hair as it fell to her shoulders, she grabbed the silver hair tie that her mother gave her and held it in right hand and slowly closed it to the silver bracelet.

Her right hand that was grabbing the silver hair tie was being enveloped by an illusionary whirl. Then, she let go of the hair tie and pulled back her hand.

"It gone... It was gone!" Xian mouth turned agape but quickly changed her posture as she hurriedly caresses her silver bracelet.

Illusionary air appeared on it as she push her hand there, she was grabbing for something while thinking of the hair tie that her mother gave at her 13th birthday.

"Please don't be gone." She said then after thinking for the silver hair tie, her hand suddenly felt something cold and she grabbed it then pulled her hand back.

At her hand was the same silver hair tie that her mother gave her. Joy appeared to the child's face that was originally blank because of the tragedy.

"Haha, there you are!" She said while smiling.

"To think my mother's gift is something this useful!" She said and continued. "I'll name you... Yes! Mother's embrace!"

She happily laid to the bed with joy in her face.

Then, suddenly she felt something was enveloping her inside, it was like a tide of emotions that was waving here and there.

Her joyish face changed into that normal again before frowning.

"How can I forget about one damn thing." She said. "My reason is not yet done... This is no time to celebrate."

"I should be exercising now... Wait, normal exercise will not work with now that I have my reason right?" She said. She stood up and brought something from her sling bag at the table.

"Here you are." She grabbed a black covered thick book that has no engravings on it.

The only thing that was written in the cover is.

[Potions and Elixirs]
