Chapter 7 - I Don't Want A Mate

"You're going to have to stop sulking and talk to me, eventually. And the sooner you do that, the better! You know you being moody won't help us both, at all." Elias said to his wolf, in his head.

It had refused to talk to him.

"You know I can't accept a mate. We have agreed on it, why are you changing our agreement now that you laid eyes on her?" He asked his wolf.

"Who wouldn't change their mind after seeing that gorgeous lady? She's so delicate and I want to protect her. I want to keep her safe." His wolf whined.

Elias heaved a deep sigh and kept driving in silence.

"Here we are!" He got to his manor and packed in his garage that had different cars, ranging from sports, SUV, down to saloon cars. He was obviously very wealthy.

"You're welcome, Alpha Asher." A servant in his house greeted him as he entered the living room.

"Thank you, Ms Juliet! I hope you're doing fine?" He replied and asked her politely.

"Yes, I am doing fine, Alpha. Thank you." She replied him, gratefully.

Elias was the 20-year-old Alpha of the silverback pride pack. He had ascended the throne immediately he turned 17.

"Son, it's time for you to take up your duties as an alpha. My health is deteriorating and I can't keep up with the running around." His father had told him, one fateful day.

"Father, don't you think it's too early for me? Can I possibly handle this heavy task, well?" He had asked his father, tearfully.

"Why not? You can do it, son. You have been groomed for the position from childhood so there's nothing to be afraid of. I trust you can handle it perfectly." His father had maintained.

Thus, he had taken up such heavy responsibility suddenly but was brilliantly performing his duties. He had an early education as the Alpha's heir and because of his unusual intelligence, he excelled in all his endeavors. He was intelligent, good in sport, and also a great warrior. He was highly knowledgeable and sociable.

"My life would have been perfect if not for this one but." He mused to himself as he strolled inside.

"Oh, you're back! How was your first day at work?" Theo, his beta that doubled as his best friend inquired with a knowing look. He had been in his house, waiting for his arrival.

"What were you expecting?" Elias asked him.

"Of course, I know you would pull it off smoothly. But dude, what I don't understand is the reason you decided to volunteer for such post. It isn't as if you're jobless, in actual sense, you're a very busy person because of the Alpha duties, and it isn't for the payment either because I know you are very wealthy..." Theo stated.

"Now, tell me, dude. Why would you, a whole Alpha decide to be a temporary teacher in a school at a neighboring pack? I mean, it isn't even in our pack." He asked him again for the umpteenth time.

"I have told you that it's simply because I want to help Mrs Williams keep her job. That's the reason, what other reason could I have?" Elias replied his friend, flatly.

Mrs Williams, who was from the neighboring pack found her mate in their pack. As a permanent teacher in her pack, she kept shuttling between the two packs, after moving in with her husband in Silverback pride pack.

"They need a temporary teacher, at Dark crescent pack, that can fill in for my wife since she just gave birth and must be on maternal leave. The teacher will work for as long as she's away." Williams, his friend and the gamma of his pack had mentioned that during one of their random times together and Elias had showed interest.

"Oh, oh, wow!" Theo suddenly exclaimed.

"What's that?" Elias inquired, staring at his dramatic friend.

"I think I've just figured out the main reason! So, did you find her?" Theo stated with a huge smile.

"Who? Who am I supposed to find?" Elias raised an eyebrow, confusedly.

"Your mate! Did you find your mate in that school? I have been thinking about why you would decide to become a teacher all of a sudden and I finally realized it. You're searching for your mate, aren't you? Of course, you've been patient, staying alone, mateless for a long time. It's high time you start looking for your destined mate, seriously. No one would blame you even if you decide to search high and low for her." Theo stated, thoughtfully.

Elias' countenance changed drastically.

"Did I tell you I'm searching for my mate, did I? Did I even tell you I need a mate?" He gritted out.

"Which werewolf wouldn't want to meet their destined mate?" Theo asked, shocked by his outburst.

"Well, here I am. I'm that werewolf that do not want or need a mate! I'm going to reject her." Elias maintained, firmly, concentrating on his phone.

"What? Are you kidding me?" He asked, bewildered.

"Does it look like I'm kidding? Dude, that's my decision." He replied.

"You do know that rejecting your mate will make you lose your mind and you can even run mad, right?" Theo asked him.

"Have you forgotten the stories of those mad alphas we read and heard about, in history classes? Dude, that's not a baseless myth. The moon goddess has laid a curse on any werewolf that refuses to accept their destined mate. As an Alpha, the pain will even be much and you can lose your mind!" Theo rushed out, believing his friend didn't understand the gravity of his decision.

"It should definitely be a joke, alright. Nobody in their right senses would choose madness instead of a beautiful love life." He added, peering at Elias.

"What part of I don't need a mate do you not understand? Dude, I would rather choose madness instead of a mate!" Elias declared, sharply.
