Getting Lightning Magic is both shocking and confusing for Indra. There hasn't been any talk about Lightning Magic prior to his reincarnation. They only talk about plans and his magic will be mostly support and healing magic.
It would actually make more sense if he received Light Magic because support and healing-type magic should have a Light attribute. At least that's what he thought and that's the common setting in stories or games.
Well, he won't complain about getting a new skill that seems powerful. Having more cards up his sleeves is always good. It's just that he needs to work hard to make this Lightning Magic become powerful.
Indra tests his new Lightning Magic in his next dungeon raid. He only finds an E-Rank Gate, but it's actually perfect because he doesn't need to worry about the monsters disturbing him. They are too weak to threaten him, so they are the best targets to test his Lightning Magic.
The instruction to use Lightning Magic suddenly popped into his mind when he got the skill, just like how it was with the other skills. He follows the instructions and produces electricity in his right hand. Weak lightning bolts strike out of his palm and fingers.
He increases the power by slowly pouring more mana into it. The lightning bolts become thicker and more bolts are striking out as well. He keeps increasing the power until his right hand is fully covered with lightning and now it looks quite familiar.
"Chidori?"
It really looks like Chidori used by Kakashi & Sasuke from Naruto. Indra tries using it on the dungeon wall by just touching the wall with his lightning-covered hand. It causes an impact that actually destroys a bit of the wall.
Indra never thought it would create such a result just by touching. It makes him curious about what if he punches the wall with his lightning-covered fist. He quickly tries it and *BOOM*, his punch breaks a big part of the dungeon wall that is very sturdy because of the mana in it.
He quickly tries punching the wall without using the 'Chidori', but he uses the same amount of punching power. The result is the damage caused by his lightning punch is almost 20% bigger than his normal punch. This is his 1st try and his skill is still just level 1, but the result is already this good.
However, his punches attracted the monsters' attention. The monsters here are small humanoid monsters with dog heads. They are the same size as goblins and also use weapons, but they are brown, not green.
"Perfect! Let me try this on you guys."
Indra covers both of his fists with lightning and starts punching the shit out of the monsters. He could kill these kinds of monsters easily before, but it is much easier now and the damage is obviously much higher.
Each punch destroys the monster's body easily as if they are just made of foam. Indra also can vaguely feel his punches are faster and can move smoother in the air. It's like the lightning magic makes him move better.
"What if I use Lightning Magic all over my body?"
He is thinking of using the Lightning like Raikage, covering his whole body with it to enhance his strength and speed. But it's a lot harder than he thought. He can't even cover his 2 arms with lightning, not to mention his whole body.
"Hmm, this is hard. How about shooting it?"
Indra then tries to shoot the lightning in his hand, but again, he can't do it. Magic is actually a lot harder than he thought. He can't even separate the lightning from his body to create a lightning ball yet.
"Sigh, they should've given me something like a magic book to help me learn how to control this lightning magic."
He can only try to get used to it now by using it in battles to understand the feeling of using Lightning Magic. Of course, the easiest way to understand how it works in battles is by using it to attack the monsters.
For now, he can only cover his fists with lightning, so he just keeps punching the monsters with his lightning fists. It is very easy to kill these E-Rank monsters with his lightning fists. Killing them is almost effortless.
However, he realizes a big problem quite soon. His mana is draining like crazy when he uses his Lightning Magic even though he only uses it in his fists. The total time he uses his Lightning Magic isn't even 15 minutes yet, but his mana is almost depleted already.
"Good thing I don't try using this in a C-Rank dungeon or I will have a problem fighting the boss without any magic skills. This lightning magic is really difficult to learn and it needs a lot of mana. I need to increase my intelligence stat, maybe just put all my free points there from now on. Not only will it increase my mana, but it will also help me understand this Lightning Magic easier."
Indra has been distributing his free stat points to different stats even though he still put more in intelligence. But from now on, he thinks he needs to just dump them all in intelligence. He has a lot more magic skills now and will keep getting more, so increasing his intelligence stat will be a priority now.
Anyway, he clears the E-Rank dungeon easily even though he can't use any magic skills when fighting the boss because he runs out of mana. He was too excited with his Lightning Magic and used all his mana for it even though its mana consumption is still high because he is still very bad at it.
So he needs to train his Lightning Magic until he can use a little amount of mana but produce strong magic. The problem is he can only train in the dungeons because Lightning Magic is too flashy and it's dangerous. It can cause a disaster if he makes mistakes when using it.
Luckily, it won't affect him too much for now even if he fights without using Lightning Magic. So he can just train it slowly every time he attacks a dungeon. He still can defeat monsters without Lightning Magic, so he can take his time for it.
Since then, Indra always trains using his Lightning Magic every time he raids a dungeon. But he doesn't neglect training his other skills too. He only trains using his Lightning Magic in the boss fights and after defeating the boss.
It doesn't take long for him to reach level 70 and now he's sure he has become a B-Rank. A top-tier B-Rank at that because all his stats have surpassed those of average B-Rankers. His strength, agility, sense, and vitality are on par with the B-Rankers specified in those stats.
[Name: Indra Smith
Level: 71
XP: 7,560/288,000
Job: Battle Healer
Title: Reincarnator (+50% XP)
HP: 79,600/79,600
MP: 89,100/89,100
Fatigue: 0
Strength: 101
Agility: 96
Sense: 101
Vitality: 96
Intelligence: 181
Free Points: 0]
Strength on par with B-Rank warriors, agility on par with B-Rank assassins, sense on par with sensor-type B-Rankers, and vitality on par with B-Rank Tanks. All those stats are enough to make him the top among B-Rankers, but they're still lower than A-Rankers.
However, that's not the case for his intelligence stat and mana. His intelligence stat is already on par with A-Rank Mages. Furthermore, the amount of mana he has is quite high even among A-Rank Mages. But the quality of his mana simply surpasses A-Rank Mages and may even be as good as weak S-Rankers already.
That's right, the value of magic power isn't just its amount, but also the quality. After passing 150 points for intelligence stat, Indra could finally feel the difference in awakeners' mana qualities. Higher-rank awakeners always have a higher amount and quality of mana, that's why their power can be so far apart even if there's only 1 rank difference between them.
Mana's quality is also the reason why Indra's magic skills can be stronger even though he uses less mana after increasing his intelligence stat. Increasing his intelligence stat doesn't increase the amount of his mana too much because it increases the quality too.
His intelligence stat is like a refiner for his mana which makes it purer and purer. With a higher quality mana, his magic skills will be more powerful and easier to use, but he won't need that much mana to use them, so he can use them longer too.
"A-Rank level magic power but my level is still not so high it seems because I still can get a decent amount of XP from C-Rank monsters. Though I need to clear a C-Rank dungeon to get just 1 level now, but it's not so bad. Still, it's better to raid B-Rank Gates for more XP. Sigh, I hope I'll find a B-Rank Gate soon. None has appeared around here."
There's such a problem, but Indra knows it won't take long for him to be an S-Ranker and start his real plan.
