Chereads / Soulbound: A Transmigrated Tale / Chapter 31 - The Harvest Ball

Chapter 31 - The Harvest Ball

I woke up very early in the morning and started preparing for a ball that would be held in the evening, I had no idea what they were doing all day. They were busy, I wasn't, but when the time to leave came they were still rushing. I was still feeling tired, but I ignored the fatigue and got ready. The dress was a sea green dress with matching gloves and heels, I felt pretty as usual.

I sat in my room for a while after getting dressed to catch my breath from a hectic day. I stood up and walked to the door, but Poppy flew and blocked the door. What now?

"I told you not to go," he said.

"And I told you I wasn't taking permission from you," I replied, opening the door. "Don't follow me, Poppy," I said walking out. Poppy was pissed, but I was tired and hungry, he could never match up to my mood.

The carriage dropped us off at the venue and we walked in. The hall was busy, everyone was talking to someone, I hated it. I waved at Lily and walked to the corner to hide in the shadow as planned, she has duties and so do I. I watched everyone dancing and showing off their skills. After a few minutes of hiding I decided to eat something before I die, I planted an emotionless look on my face and went searching for my soulmate.

I stuffed my face elegantly then made my way back to the shadows to hide. I was lost in thoughts and didn't notice it when someone stood beside me.

"Hiding again?" he asked.

"I'm not hiding," I said to Ryle, he was expressionless.

"Do you want to dance?" he asked.

"No," I blurted before I could think.

"That was straightforward," he stated leaning against the wall.

"I'm here because I don't want to dance," I said honestly.

"Because you're terrible?" he asked, but it was more of a confirmation. Being told 'you suck' by a hot guy really hurts different.

"That was straightforward," I said using his words. He laughed and walked away. Thanks for taking the hint when you should, Ryle, you are my second favorite male lead and a former friend. I turned back to the crowd and saw Liam walking away angrily while Maxon had a smirk on his face, Maxon noticed me and I gave him a thumbs up for winning again. Deep down I was angry that I missed my favorite scene, but I'll manage. Their argument was not it but the reason they were fighting was the blush factor. I didn't get to see it because of that mage distracted me.

After exactly two hours of staying in the ball, I decided it was long enough and left. Lily still had duties as the female lead so was best that I left her behind, the prince will drop her off anyway after another interesting scene where she apologizes for Maxon's behavior. I never got why she had to apologize for someone she barely knew, it just didn't make sense. And worse of Avery didn't stay long, so the ball was pointless. Whatever, this extra is out for the night.

I walked into my room and saw Poppy sitting on the bed with a glare planted on his face. I was not in the mood to deal with him, so I ignored him and rang the bell. Millie walked in and looked at the both of us for a beat but didn't say a word, she helped me out of the dress and to a nice soul cleansing bath. She walked out without saying a word leaving us again. I lied down on the bed facing the other side pretending not to notice him. He didn't say anything, which was weird since I was dealing with the most foulmouthed I've ever seen in three lives.

I heard a thud and sat up to look at Poppy, he was not on the bed. I stood up quickly and walked to the other side, Poppy was on the floor with his head down.

"Poppy," I called but got no response. I raised him up and saw that he had a nosebleed, he must have been really sick.

I ran out and went to Millie's room, I banged on the door but got no response. I could go to Lily, she's the overpowered main character. I hurried to her room, but there was no response either, she was not back yet, but I wasn't patient to wait for her. I ran outside to wait, but every second felt like an hour, my mind ran a million miles per second. I went back to the room and tried waking Poppy up, but he didn't move. I was so scared, is this because I didn't make a wish? Or because of the seal? Or because I left? I was too scared to think clearly, I felt like I was alone in the world, and everyone went on strike. Tears threatened to come out, but I held it in, a few drops escaped as I held Poppy in fear hoping that hero will walk in and heal him. Wishes, am I right?

"Stop crying," Poppy spat rudely, I sniffled and pushed him back to look at him.

"Poppy, are you okay?" I asked.

"I'm not a human, I don't fall sick," he said standing up.

"Is it because I left? I'm sorry," I said, dragging him back for a hug.

"Don't flatter yourself," he spat rudely. Okay, forget he almost died, I'm about to punch this dragon. I pushed him away and went to lie down.

"I can't believe I just ran around the house pointlessly for this stupid dragon," I muttered as I closed my eyes to sleep. Poppy dropped his pillow on my back and lied down comfortably. Does this kid think I'm his bed or something? I'm glad he's okay, but I believe it was something even though Poppy acted like it was nothing. I don't want anything to happen to Poppy, my poor heart can't handle it.
