"What does yours say?" Lily asked smiling.
"Oh, uh…" I scanned the letter and said, "I'm sure there's nothing important here." The duke cleared his throat and said,
"You should read it." Annoying! Why are they snooping in my private affairs? I opened it and started reading.
"Dear Roseanne," I started. "I'm sure you don't know who I am, but I look forward to meeting you and your sister. I was there when you were born, and I'm sure that those two cute children are now beautiful ladies. I would be visiting soon, and I look forward to seeing you, hopefully with nothing unwanted," I read aloud and looked at my audience. The duke must have expected something else because he just stood up and walked away.
"Should I read mine?" Lily asked.
"No need," I said standing up.
I walked back to my room, not sure what to make of the morning's events. But I needed to focus on my recovery so that I could put my plan back in action. I walked in and Poppy lying on the bed in his human form, but he wasn't asleep, I lied next to him waiting for explanation, but I got none.
"Why did you run off like that? Or should I say fly off?" I asked but he didn't reply. Did he need to take a dump ?
"How do you know the wind spirit?" he asked.
"I don't know her, it's just something about her blessing Lily when we were born," I explained.
"I see," he said.
"Why do you ask? Do you know her?" Wait a minute! "Were you sealed by the wind spirit?" I said my thoughts without realizing.
"Forget it," Poppy said, sounding annoyed.
"Why are you angry now?"
"It's nothing," he said facing the other side. Does he have some kind of animosity with the wind spirit? They probably know each other since they are both… old. I mean, I would understand if Poppy don't like her, from all the dust. What is she? Tinkerbell? I am not looking forward to meeting the wind spirit, I can tell how annoying she'd be, I am not healthy enough for annoying.
…
"My lady you don't show any signs of sickness, but you still look sick," the physician said looking worried.
"I'll administer some drugs for you just in case," he said.
"Thank you, I think I'm just tired from the harvest festival," I said smiling weakly. I probably ate something bad.
"No, this is different, it's as if you… no, that's not possible," he said to himself. He packed his supplies and walked out with Millie still contemplating. Maybe I should sleep more.
I stood up and walked to the mirror and looked at myself, I looked really sick and worse I haven't added a pound. It's been more than two months since I came here, I have been trying hard to gain some weight but it's not working at all. Is this one of those body types? The ones that don't add any weight, no matter how much they eat, am I one of them?
"No way"
I turned and looked at Poppy, he was also sick for reasons best known to him even if he won't accept it. Did we catch dragon flu? Is there a thing called dragon flu?
It's so obvious that I'm sick, why didn't anyone ask how I was? They're always making me the bad guy when they make me act that way.
"It's not like I'm expecting anything from them though," I said to myself. I sighed and took the letter from the wind spirit and read it again, I noticed a last part that I didn't notice before.
'P.S. If you can read this, then get away from that dragon, or you might die'
What the hell? I might die, why? How does she know I have a dragon? And how does Poppy endanger me? Should I ask him? I turned to look at him but as expected, he's sleeping. Does the letter have something to do with Poppy's seal?
Am I about to doubt Poppy and trust a stranger? Poppy has been with me for months, why do I have to separate myself from him just because the wind spirit that favored Lily for her magic don't like him? If she's the one who sealed Poppy then when she comes we'll have a serious talk, I know there must have been a reason, but I can't trust someone I don't know.
I picked a book and started reading to distract myself from the thoughts flooding in, it was useless. The wind spirit is visiting, if I'm being honest I don't like that. It would be another opportunity for them to rub it in my face that I'm the one with zero talents. I need to leave this place soon, but that won't work if I'm still an asset to the duke, I don't know what to do at this point.
Millie walked in with a tray and dropped it on a table and sat down beside me.
"My lady, it's time to take your medicine," she said giving me a weird looking concoction.
"Did the doc… physician actually give this to you?" I asked, disgusted.
"Yes," she breathed.
"For me?" I asked and she nodded. I already knew it was bitter without drinking it. "I'll drink it later," I said and continued reading my book. Millie put a finger on my book and I took in a deep breath, she brought it down slowly and handed the weird looking concoction to me. I didn't bother protesting I just took it, and shockingly it was not bitter.
"It's not bitter," I said. Millie didn't respond she just waited for me to finish it before giving me a cookie, she arranged the plates to leave and looked up at me.
"I advise you drink it now," she said and walked away. A disgustingly bitter taste hit m tongue that I shouted,
"Bitter." Millie smiled and closed the door. That sly fox! I ate the cookie, but it didn't help at all, so I decided to sleep it off.
