"Do you want to go in there?" Liam asked again.
"No," I said maneuvering my way away from him.
"You were staring at it, so I assumed you wanted to go in," he explained.
"Ah, I see," I said.
"I don't think this is a great idea, Lady Lilyanne," I heard Maxon's voice, perfect timing.
"Lily, I thought I won't see you for the rest of the evening," I said, speed walking to her side.
"What do you…" I didn't let her finish before saying,
"Sir Maxon, it's a pleasure to see you," I said with a curtsy as always.
"Lady Rose, I didn't expect to see you here," he said dismissively. I can't believe this annoying knight, you asked me for advice few days ago, talk about ungrateful.
"Are you going in there?" Liam asked.
"Yes," Maxon said with a smirk that he tried to hide.
"I see, do you want to go in, Lady Rose?" he asked. Does this prince have hearing impediment?
First of, why is this world like this? I put in a lot of effort to avoid the prince, I did everything possible to avoid being led on; I just stayed at home all day. It was tough, but I pushed through, leading on season is over, why can't this prince focus on his stupid crush? Also, why aren't this two speaking to the prince respectfully?
"Your Highness, I would have to take my leave now, Poppy isn't feeling too well I have to take him home," I said retreating slowly. I felt bad for dragging Poppy out after what happened yesterday, but I can't leave him alone for now, now I wish I just stayed back.
"So it's true, you really do carry a dragon around," he said staring at the lump on my shoulder. How did this prince recognize me?
"Yes," I said.
"Well, I can't stop you," he said.
It was supposed to be the three of them in there anyway, it was the most stupid scene in the book. Lily, our overpowered protagonists were scared of people that were dressed like zombies, and according to the book's description they looked like dead orcs and ogres that had a bad makeup day, the last part wasn't in the book. It's funny that she's scared of things that she kills for sport, if she was going to get scared why did she insist on going in there? They went to the number one cupid, the most important thing in romance novels, HAUNTED HOUSE.
I turned and walked away quickly, I would have continued my adventures, but I was really worried about Poppy. I was still feeling sick and exhausted, so it was wise to retire for the night. I probably have a cold or something, I need to get checked up. The moment I entered my room, I walked to my room and collapsed on the bed and fell asleep.
…
I woke up feeling worse than before. When Millie came to help me freshen up and get dressed, she noticed that I was sick and advised me to stay in bed for the rest of the day, but I had to go for breakfast with the Duke and the others. I'm sure he just wants to say something we already know, sometimes I wonder what goes on in the duke's mind.
"Poppy, are you coming?" I asked and he flew on my head. He was still sick, and my worry only grew by the minute, maybe I should get him checked up too. Will I have to call a mage? Should I ask Ryle? That would be stupid but it's not like I know another mage, to talk of a mage that can heal a dragon.
I took my seat in my usual spot and stared at the table intently. The duke was reading a paper, Lily was staring at me, Raphael… what's he still doing here? And mother was looking at the duke. After a long wait food was served, in all my days of appreciating food I have never appreciated it more.
I dug in without hesitation waiting for Lily to do her job as the favorite and break the silence. The duke took a few bites before speaking.
"I received a letter recently," he started finally. "The wind spirit would be visiting us soon," he said, and my throat went dry. Poppy sat up but didn't say the word, he just flew away. The wind spirit is visiting, this didn't happen before. Why is she visiting?
The book won't give me a break, it really wants to rub it in that I don't belong here. Me… Rose… I don't belong here as Pam or Rose, I never did and never will.
"She sent a letter to you all," he stated. I'm definitely not in that 'all'. He gestured at the butlers who were standing by the corner, and they walked out and came back with others that were holding trays. A letter was dropped in front of everyone in front of everyone, including me, and the table was cleared even though we weren't done.
Lily opened hers in anticipation and I just watched her quietly. She scanned through it with a smile then she dropped it on the table still smiling. I didn't miss the dust on the table and on her face, this wind spirit person seems like a crazy person, or she's in the desert. Raphael opened his, trying to hide his excitement, more dust. Mother opened hers, but her expression was different from others, a mix of sadness, anger and… guilt? There was no dust in hers, she read it and sighed, she stood up and walked away, obviously angry, she created fire with her hands and burned the letter on her way out. Sometimes I forget that I'm the only normal person in the world. I don't know if I saw wrong, but mother looked furious, why was she angry? That's the person who blessed her child at birth, she should be excited to see her not angry.
"What does yours say?" Lily asked pulling me out of my thoughts. My letter, I would rather not read it, I just feel like it would ruin my mood.
