Chapter 58 - Not A Need, A Want

"I think I've seen a few Conjuring Sigils in my life to at least earn some credit..."

"You know about Layla's case with the Brine King, correct? With your understanding that the Elemental Cores binds both body and spirit to this realm, right?"

The Felidae nodded, slightly annoyed that the Ankou would challenge his intelligence.

"You are right in that aspect, but that only applies to those that have been summoned into this realm, not the ones that are born in here. You... And the two sleeping in the room don't have the same Elemental Core as those being created."

"Yes, I am well aware of that... But the Elemental Energy of a being native to this realm comes from the soul, correct?"

"You really don't know, huh?" laughed the Grim Reaper as he shook his head.

"Am I wrong?"

"I'm afraid so... Souls are the person's individuality, memories, and personality. Without the soul, the body can't function. The Elemental Core is an item to store a being's Elemental Energy but it doesn't mean that the body can't work once it has been removed."

Teemo stared at Sander as if he was out of his mind, making the latter sigh.

"Think of it like this; imagine yourself. If I were to take away your left arm, what would be the problem?"

"I'd have no arm?"

"A bit more than that. Come on now, what would be the consequences of not having an arm?"

"I won't be able to fight as much or do my armors as efficiently?"

"Correct... But would you die?"

The Felidae shook his head before finally understanding what the Ankou meant by the soul and Elemental Core being a separate thing.

"I was always under the impression that the beings of the Six Kingdoms must have powers to function..."

"That's because of how your society is... Conforming with the trend but everyone has forgotten that Magecraft is a want, not a need. Funny how information gets twisted through times and different channels."

Teemo's ears twitched upon hearing the last sentence, making sure to remember that bit of detail for when the next situation arises.

Sander then leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes, folding his arms while deep in thought. He then shook his head.

"Anyways, to circle it back to your question from earlier. Unfortunately, I had no recollection of where I was summoned. And besides, does it matter? Because even if I was, it wouldn't be a solid answer to fix your solution."

"Meaning? Other than the reason that you've mentioned earlier... Is there another reason not to assume that your summoning isn't in relation with the deaths?"

"He's right; Just because he is associated with Death and souls are needed to bind him to this realm would mean the patch of black on the map."

"Someone could appear at point A but the Conjuring Sigil could be held halfway across the realm and we wouldn't know," said the Loplin, who was leaning against the kitchen door frame.

"I thought you were sleeping? How's Layla?" quizzed the Ankou.

"Sleep and I don't exactly mix too well when I want it to but I was able to recover my Elemental Energy because of the dreams Layla was having…"

"And judging by the fact I need upbeat and determination as fuel for myself, it's safe to say that the little girl is having a nice time in dreamland."

"Anyways, are we still stuck on the topic of where he'd come from or are we talking about other matters?" asked the bunny as he grabbed a cup of coffee for himself.

"The first one… We're still stuck on that and I haven't even mentioned the Shadow Trio yet… We've truly gotten ourselves in a jam," complained Teemo as he smacked his head on the table.

"I do know that cracking what's left of your brain on the table is not going to help so we might as well deal with it. With the Grim Reaper with us now, he isn't collecting lost souls so soon we would have another problem about that."

"Getting him unanchored would be our priority then… The question is how," replied Teemo, staring at the Ankou.

"After getting him unchained, would they try to call him back again?"

"That'd be troublesome… But not in the realm of absurdity. And I have no idea how to prevent that either."

"Hang on, maybe I've got a method to solve my case. Someone has to kill me, or at least, my body in this realm… Why are you both staring at me like that?" asked Sander.

"Because I know you're unhinged but this has got to be the most farfetched thing you've said. And this is the third time I've met you!" exclaimed the Loplin.
