Chapter 36 - Elemental Cores

"Matt said that the two of you had something to discuss. What would that be about?" questioned Layla.

"Oh... It doesn't concern you so after the meal you can return to the room," said Teemo as he gently patted the girl's head.

"Matt said that the two of you had something to discuss. What would that be about?" questioned Layla.

"Oh... It doesn't concern you so after the meal you can return to the room. I don't want to overload your head," said Teemo as he gently patted the girl's head.

"Well, can I ask something regarding the Brine King? Or even these creatures in general?"

"Of course, what would you like to know? I've got the book knowledge while Matt here has the field knowledge…" replied the Felidae, smiling sweetly at the Dragoon.

"What did you mean by I've only defeated the Brine King's body and not its soul? Shouldn't it become tied together?"

"Are you aware of Elemental Cores? And how does it exist in these creatures?"

Layla shook her head.

"In theory and the tales that were handed down to us from long ago, the creatures that we see and face now are legends from the Ancient Humans. However, a group of Mages had started researching summoning rituals and found a way to give life to a legend."

"Give life to a legend? Like, the Brine King or Ifrit?"

"Yes. In this Universe, this world should not have any creatures or legends at all. However, this doesn't mean they don't exist at all. They are very much alive in other Universes."

"But some people had too much time on their hands and thus created the Elemental Core while also summoning these things into this Universe. The Elemental Core is an item that anchors both spirit and body to this realm while also acting like a house for the soul."

"Normally, when you're up against a creature, you are trained to have enough power and aim for its Elemental Core to prevent things like the Curse of Brine from latching onto you."

"The creatures that we've fought are also far weaker than if we were to fight them in their homeworlds while also lacking in reason, so at least take comfort in that fact."

"But it's not to say to underestimate these creatures especially when even the Royal Guards of the Six Kingdoms are still very terrified of them… Not everyone can fight against things like Ifrit or Luminore."

"I am still surprised that someone as untrained as you managed to kill the Brine King, even if you didn't do it properly…" said Matt.

"Then… Is there a way to cure me of the curse?" squeaked the Dragoon, sounding slightly frightened.

Teemo sighed while Matt refused to look at Layla.

"There's no way yet, so you have to regulate your usage of that Skillset. But if you were to use other Skillsets, the curse wouldn't affect you. To put it bluntly, if you keep using the Brine King's powers, you'll eventually become the next Brine King and lose yourself forever."

"I don't wish to scare you but this is what I have to warn you," explained the Felidae as he grasped the girl's hand.

Layla pulled away from the cat as she got up from her seat.

"Thank you for the food and knowledge. If you don't mind, I'd like to retire to my room," replied Layla, as she allowed her fringe to fall so it would cover her eyes.

The room's silence was deafening as the Dragoon left the room.

"You know you could've worded it better than that…" said Matt as he washed the dishes.

"Tch… As if you could do any better, she has to know the truth. If she doesn't, and she continues using it excessively…"

"I get it… By the way, something is itching my mind," stated the Loplin.

"Hm? Is it from the conversation earlier?"

"Nope... It's about what Layla told me on the first day we met. I thought she was just an average bar girl but something tells me she knows more than usual, perhaps, even more..." remarked the Loplin as he twisted his back.

"I've got my suspicions about her but it was clear to me that the Dragoon isn't a danger to us when she couldn't withstand one of my easiest attacks. But let's hear what you've got to say about her," said the Felidae as he made some tea.

"She mentioned that the Six Kingdoms were established due to Primordial Gods summoned by the humans who breached the rift of Universes. These Gods then gave birth to the races that now live within the Six Kingdoms."

"Hmm... Now that's fascinating... She knows about the origins of this realm but not the Elemental Cores. But Layla has got the information slightly twisted."

"How so?"
