Valerie's POV
As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw the figure move closer. My heart racing, I prepared for the worst. But as the figure stepped into the faint light, I realized it wasn't a dark shadowy figure at all. It was Rohan.
I breathed a sigh of relief, my shoulders sagging as the tension left my body. "Rohan," I whispered, my voice shaking slightly. "What are you doing here?"
Rohan's eyes locked onto mine, his expression softening. "I was looking for you," he said, his voice low. "I saw you run in here and I followed."
I nodded, still trying to calm my racing heart. "I thought...I thought it was someone else," I admitted, feeling a little silly.
Rohan's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "I'm sorry I scared you," he said, taking a step closer. "I didn't mean to."
I shook my head, feeling a little more at ease. "It's okay," I said. "I just...I wasn't expecting it to be you."
