Chapter 12 - Unexpected Opportunities: The Road to Oxford's Sub-Team

💞Love from a Distance: A Tale of Unexpected Connection💞

Chapter 12

Liela's POV

How was it Tan? I asked her.

I enjoyed myself and hated the lesson ended. "I can't wait for the next skating lesson," she said joyfully as l waited for her to change before we left the building. After we finished the British literature class, Tania decided to treat me, Rose, and Sasha out. We left the school and went to a restaurant where we ordered kassrole, wagyu beef burgers, lobster mac and cheese Truffle fries, spaghetti and meatballs, and strawberry smoothie.

I wondered why she made us order a lot of food, so I decided to ask her.

"Hmm, Tan, why did you make us order a lot of food?" I asked.

"Because we are celebrating myself for joining skating," she said and raised a toast to us with the smoothie cup. We all toasted before drinking the smoothie. After the bill came, she paid, and we left the restaurant.

Ryan's POV

Practice had started kicking off, and we began with warm-up exercises. We jogged, ran backward, changed speeds on different lines, skipped, did double-legged hops, and hopped side to side over the line.

After that, we played Pac-Man, where one player was chosen as "the Pac-Man" and had to tag others. Once tagged, a player became the new Pac-Man.

"Rest for five minutes before we start lesson one for today," the coach said, and we all sat down. After the break, we learned bending, twisting, and side bends.

After practice ended, I stayed behind to practice. Everything we did was easy, and it felt like I was repeating the same thing.

The Coach's POV

During practice, I noticed Ryan performed all the drills perfectly and was amazed by his endurance. He stood out from the rest of the team, and I watched in awe as he played basketball with impressive skills.

Liela's POV

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and I couldn't believe I had spent three months in this school. A lot had happened, things had changed, and my worst enemy had become famous as the hot basketball player in the whole of Nile. How? Let me rewind a bit.

Ryan's POV

After a month of practicing, we played among ourselves as the squad team. The Bulldogs played matches with other opponents outside of school, and I wished to compete with them as it had been a while since I played with such skilled players. The squad team had reduced from sixty to thirty due to complaints about the training and exercises.

Just like saying goes, the race is not to the weak nor to the weary but to the resilence. After the usual practice, the coach told us to wait behind. We sat down on the lower level side line in the spectator stands as we waited for him.

Good match teammate Drake said as we shake hands.

Guy you need to teach me the shooting skill because your own is on another level Louis said and drake, andrew and l laughed.

That's true, let's learn from the boss man Andrew said.

Jackson POV

I watched as Ryan chatted with the other mates and found myself wandering how those guys talked to him. My phone beeped and I checked it, it was a message from Tom saying "when you're done practicing, let's all have dinner together, tell our other roommates" l kept the phone back in my bag. The coach came in with two other person.

Good news everyone you're going to be having your first real match with Oxford basketball sub-team he said and we all shouted.

He also said there would be hefty practice and our schedules would be tight from now on and lastly said only fifteen of us would participate in the match. The coach introduced his assistants, Jerry and Brady, who would help us prepare for the match. We were all dismissed to work hard for the upcoming opportunity.
