Love from a distance:Atale of unexpected connection
Chapter 17
Ryan's POV
Before I forget, fifteen players were selected and I was among them, the rest you'll know with time. As I sat down on the bus, I put an earpod in my ear and played music. When the coach stood up, signaling us to take a moment from our devices, I removed the earpod.
Today is the day and Nile University has never lost to any opponents, so what we are going to do is to show them what we are made of. We are fearless, strong, and the best when it comes to this field. I know some of you might be scared since this is your first real match, so here's a little advice: forget the fear and focus on winning," he said, and we all shouted in unison, "Yes, sir."
"LET'S BRING VICTORY TO NILE!" He shouted, and we all joined in. Afterward, he went back to his seat, and the journey was quiet once again. We arrived at Oxford University and got off the bus when it parked in the parking lot. The view was magnificent, and I muttered, "We're here." A man approached our coach, and talked to him. A few minutes later, we were told to follow the man, and we did. We were taken to our locker room where we stored all our stuff, and the coach went over the plan.
The match was about to start, and everyone was dressed. After having a group word, the coach said his last word to us, "Go and get that crown," and we left for the basketball court. Soon the match began, and the speaker announced both teams. As I came out, I heard "Go Nile." I looked up and saw her friend but Liela wasn't there. This only means she didn't come. The two teams were already on the court in their respective places and after the countdown, the game began.
Our opponent had the ball, and they were dribbling around my players. Jackson managed to take the ball from them and made an overhead pass to me. I dribbled past my opponents swiftly and shot the ball into the net. The crowd roared, apart from those of Oxford. We did our group hug, and the match continued. It had been over two hours, and Nile was the winning team, thirty against twelve. The first half was over, so our coach talked to us while the assistants provided water and a towel.
"Good teamwork, I'm impressed. Let this spirit follow you until the end of the match. Now let's look at the sketchpad," he said as he took the marker to write on it.
We switched positions, our opponents were now in our spot and we in theirs. The match continued, and the score was now seventy against twenty five. All the crowds cheered for Nile, and the cameraman made sure to capture the Nile players. We had a group hug again after the match ended, and we won. My name was being screamed by the crowd, "SOO HO," and if you're wondering how they knew, it was from my jersey.
The match ended, and Oxford was defeated. We were given gold medals and a trophy. We shouted as we raised the trophy, and pictures were taken. A journalist came and interviewed us, and this would soon be all over the news. I HATED attention like this; maybe that's why I quit playing a long time ago. Now the "attention" is back.
Tania's POV
I came to Oxford University for the match and was directed to the big basketball court. I sat in one of the bleachers and waited for the match to begin. The match started, and I saw Nile players coming out. Someone caught my attention, a guy with green eyes; he was damn handsome. I found myself staring at him deeply. I screamed and shouted, "Go Nile," and I guess he turned and maybe saw me from the crowds.
I watched as he scored eight goals within twenty minutes, and was marveled at his skills. Soon, I saw Oxford fans cheering for Nile. I could hear how girls talked about him, saying he was handsome. "Why have I never seen him in Nile before? Such a handsome man in Nile, wow," I wondered.
Before I knew it, I heard "Soo ho" from the crowd, and that's when I saw his name on his jersey. Wow, his name is Soo ho. He's mixed, and wow again, he might be my crush. The match was over, and Nile won with a large gap difference. I was overjoyed as I watched Nile having a group hug.
