As the Wilderness Initiative pushed to the top secret lab, and they had locked themselves inside.
"Hexxit, help me power up the conduit. Archimedes, get the computer up. Powerdrive, Arris, get the portal in place. Veldspar, keep watch. By now Flight is on his way."
The Initiative got to work. Polaris and Hexxit fired their energy into the conduit as Archimedes brought the portal online.
"THE REACTION IS UNSTABLE! WE MUST...."
The blast doors explode revealing Flight and the Elemental Troopers.
"So, what evil scheme did you plan this time?"
"We are leaving this hellscape. Like it or not, you have no control over us."
"Quiet! Learn your place and knee before your true leader!"
Hexxit laughs. "As if he could ever be our leader."
"We beat you, remember?"
"Yea, because we let you. Archimedes, come on."
"STAND DOWN WILDERNESS!"
"Why don't you make us tough guy?"
Flight lunges at Polaris, who fires off an energy burst at them.
"GET THROUGH THE PORTAL! IT IS COLLAPSING!"
As the Wilderness Initiative rushes into the portal, Polaris fires a large burst of energy into the conduit, causing it to crack and surge with energy.
"FLIGHT! GET OUT OF THERE! IT'S GONNA BLOW!"
The Troopers pull back as the Nellis Compound lights up the night sky as the Wilderness Initiative leaves the reality Flight had owned.
As the ashes and flaming metal fall from the sky, Flight looks at the other troopers and curses under his breath.
"Lava, find us a way after them."
Meanwhile, the Wilderness Campaigners are ejected from the portal into a grassy hillside. They roll down it was the explosion seals the portal on both ends. After they'd stopped rolling, Polaris stood up and look over the cliffside to see an oceanside port below them.
"Did it work?" Asked Hexxit holding her arm.
"We are finally home..."
They cheer as Hexxit sings "From the Ground Up" by Laura Shigihara. The Initiative was finally home, something they'd been longing for since they were forced to leave.
As they walked down the pathway to the port, Hexxit, Powerdrive and Arris all regained their magic. Archimedes finally was able to reveal his ears and Kbar was finally able to take off his glasses.
As for Polaris, he inhaled the salty air and was able to enter his celestial form. His brown eyes like little sun spots, his hair white, and his gear finally able to be used at one-hundred percent.
As they entered the port city, humans, demi-humans, and other races were all busy trading, working, cooking, and selling things.
"So, this is what we've missed."
"It's like a dream come true."
"Those magic pictures on the screen even held a candle to the actual thing."
As they walk into the Guild, a photo of them hangs on the wall.
"Would you look at that!"
The Guild master walks out of his office and drops his drink.
"I-I don't believe it! Great Grandfather was right.... EVERYONE! SILENCE!"
The once loud room was silent. The Guild Master walked up to the group, everyone on edge.
"Is it truly you? Winters?"
"Polaris Winters, but yes. The Wilderness Initiative has returned."
"Thank the stars! EVERYONE! My great grandfather told me stories of these legendary heroes who were forced out of our homes and lives, promising to return! AND THEY HAVE RETURNED! WE MUST CELEBRATE!"
The guild master runs into the streets of the city and declares it to everyone. The city was to throw a party for the returning heroes.
"Seems like a few generations have passed since we were last here."
"Yes, unfortunately we were unable to get here sooner."
"That's no matter now! You're home! I seem to remember my great grandfather saying there were more of you. Where are they?"
The members of the Initiative looked down at the ground. Polaris clenched his fist as tears evaporated on his face.
"They were killed. Hunted down and massacred in the hopes of learning our secrets... by the very people we were kidnapped by and forced to train."
The citizens bowed their heads in solemn silence. Then the guild master spoke up.
"You know... We all here held out hop you'd return. His Majesty comes from the same lineage of the King you all knew when you were last here."
"He's a Witherheart?!"
"Yes, and he has far surpassed the expectations the King you all knew set for his line. He made sure your feats are still known throughout the kingdom. Everyone here still remembers you... but's I'm afraid the rest of the world stopped caring."
"Easy for them to do when they didn't have to call upon these heroes when demonic monsters crushes our armies, our homes...."
"Zephen, we are living proof that they are still remembered. We may not have seen them other than you, as you are elven, but we all keep the stories alive."
"Well, enough of this. Let's eat!"
As the Initiative partied and ate, Hexxit noticed Polaris standing away from the party.
"Are you going to eat?"
"I-I can't."
"Why...."
Polaris eyes were red as he'd been crying, but the tears would just evaporate off of him.
"You did the best you could. You got us here."
"No.... I should've ripped Flight into pieces. Melted him into a puddle of metal. Maybe then... We'd all be here to see this, a whole generation sooner."
"Polaris.... None of us would replace you as our leader. You are the reason we're all alive. We made it this far thanks to you and your leadership. The others sacrificed their lives in order to give you and us a shot at getting back here, and never returning."
"Hexxit..."
"No. I won't here it. Come and eat. They are celebrating our return. Do not dishonor the sacrifice our friends made in order for us to get here. Remember, you are alive, and that was Glacier's goal. Make sure you lead us home."
Polaris turns and follows Hexxit back to the feast, finally able to relax his mind.... They had in fact made it.
