Kylie's eyes narrowed as she stepped aside to let Karl enter. "We have to talk," she said, her voice laced with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. As Karl walked into the house, his gaze darted around the room, searching for any sign of Gravill. But there was nothing. No hint of his presence, no clue as to where he might be.
The air was thick with tension as Kylie led Karl to the living room. The soft hum of the clock on the mantle seemed to amplify the silence between them. Kylie's mind raced with questions, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that Karl was hiding something.
"You said my son is in danger," Kylie said, her voice firm but laced with worry. "How do you know?"
Karl hesitated for a moment before answering. "Poseidon said so," he lied, trying to sound convincing. "So he sent me here to help him."
At the mention of Poseidon, Kylie's face changed. Her eyes widened, and her expression turned skeptical. "He sent you?" she repeated, her voice dripping with doubt.
Karl nodded, trying to maintain the charade. "Yes, he sent me."
Kylie's eyes narrowed further. "Did he tell you to tell me anything?"
Karl hesitated again, unsure of how much to reveal. "No...yes," he stammered. "He told me to tell you to forget about him."
Kylie's face contorted in disbelief. "No, never," she said, her voice firm. "Poseidon would never say that."
Karl shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "He did," he said, but his mind was racing. What would a god want with a mere mortal? He couldn't wait to get his hands on Gravill.
Meanwhile, Georgios was sleeping soundly, oblivious to the tension in the room. Kylie, on the other hand, was growing increasingly uneasy. There was something about Karl that didn't add up. His face seemed to be hiding a secret, and that scar above his eyebrow looked menacing.
As they made their way to Gravill's room, Kylie's anxiety grew. What if Karl was telling the truth? What if Gravill was really in danger? She pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand.
When they arrived at Gravill's room, Karl began searching for clues, scouring every inch of the space. But there was nothing. No hint of where Gravill might be, no sign of what might have happened to him.
"Did he perhaps leave anything or tell you anything?" Karl asked, his voice laced with frustration.
Kylie shook her head. "No, he didn't. But he left a note for me."
Karl's eyes lit up with interest. "A note? Let me see," he said, stretching out his hand to take the note from Kylie.
As he read the note, his face fell. It was just a goodbye note, nothing more. He angrily folded the note and threw it away. "This won't lead us anywhere," he muttered. "Don't you want to find your son?"
Kylie's eyes welled up with tears. "I do, I really do. Please help me."
Together, they searched the room again, looking for any clue that might lead them to Gravill. But it wasn't until Karl stumbled upon a dusty old book that he finally found what he was looking for. The title was written in ancient text, and as soon as Karl saw it, he knew where Gravill was.
"What's that?" Kylie asked, noticing Karl's sudden interest in the book.
Karl hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Nothing, that's nothing," he said quickly, trying to brush it off.
But Kylie's curiosity was piqued. "I think I should come back tomorrow," Karl said abruptly, dashing out of the room before Kylie could ask any more questions.
Kylie was left standing alone, wondering what Karl had found. What was he hiding? And where was Gravill? She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. She would get to the bottom of this, no matter what it took.
