Blinking his eyes, Kaito knew something was off. How could there be two of him? Not only that, why was he seeing white now? His bedroom wasn't white, it had cherry wood everywhere. The futon he normally slept on was more elevated, meaning it could have been a bed instead. Where was he?
"You've finally awaken." A voice to his right said. Kaito tilted his head and noticed a man with black hair and sunglasses on despite being inside a room. The man had his arms crossed as he was leaning back into the chair he was sitting on. "Kaito Shikichi. Age 17. Social secruity number—"
"How do you know my name?" Kaito sat up, not feeling a bit tired despite fainting, or at least he thought he had fainted. He had never seen this guy before nor had he even encountered the man as a passers-by. Just who was he?
"Nice to meet you. The name's John Robinson. I am the owner of the organization known as the 'Chosen Ones.' And you, young fellow, happen to have a skill that I have never seen in my life." John leaned in closer to Kaito, analyzing him. "Although your grandfather has the skill of prophecy and your father can only reverse and forward time for inanimate objects, you can reverse or forward time for animate objects. Interesting."
"What are you talking about?" Kaito stood up, trying to walk away from John. "I've never gotten a skill in my family before. It was only my grandfather, dad, and mom. My grandfather prophecied that I would be powerless. And here I am, powerless and with a disease more than anything."
"That's not what I saw." John stood up too, staring at Kaito. "You don't remember the monster you fought? That monster was known as a tier 5 monster out of 10. Normally the 'Chosen Ones' with stronger powers would be able to handle those type of monsters. However, you, not even a 'Chosen One,' was able to save everyone out of that situation. How could you not notice that?" John squinted his eyes.
"Huh?" Kaito looked at John with a confused expression. "That wasn't a dream? What do you mean?"
"A dream?"
"Well, I fainted. How could I have fought the monster if I had fainted?" Kaito left out the part of where he saw himself fighting the monster. He thought that it wasn't necessary information to reveal.
John raised his eyebrows before walking up to Kaito. He looked at him for a bit and then gasped. "You're telling me that you didn't do it? But your face is the same. The only difference is the hair and eye color and how your skin had more life to it. Maybe it's the kind of power you need to faint for in order to activate it." John continued analyzing Kaito. "I understand. Here, let me show you to your room."
Kaito watched John open the door to the room and exposed a different world. Kaito stepped one foot out of the room and noticed a weird looking place. The hallways that were usually indoors at his school were out doors, and he could see the grass compared to wherever he was at school. There were different buildings for different things, but he couldn't put his finger on what they were for.
"This way, Kaito." John waved him over. "This is the way to the dorms."
Kaito, not knowing what else to do, followed John. The hallways were long, but there wasn't a wall suffocating him (well, minus the buildings to the right of him). They continued walking as they saw various types of students walk by. He saw some with animal ears, and some that looked normal from afar until up close. Some looked just like him with unusual hair colors and eye colors. He felt...normal here.
"Here's your dorm building." John handed Kaito a key to the room 108. "This dorm is designated for boys at this school. Curfew is 10 pm. If you stay out any longer, then Ms. Magical Girl Risa will deal with you."
Kaito couldn't believe that there were even magical girls at this school. "Oh. Thanks." Kaito took the key from him and watched John walk away. He looked at the building before opening the door and entering. There were a flight of stairs that Kaito knew would take a tremendous effort on his part to reach the 100th floor due to his low energy. But that wasn't going to stop him. There was a place that finally accepted him. He was never accepted at school except for Daisuke, and at home, all his family did was work after the death of someone he had forgotten about. That wasn't going stop him. If he was considered a "Chosen One," then that's what he was going to be.
After climbing up the stairs he knew he was going to get tired from, he opened the door to a room that he had always seen in those foreign films. It had a bed, a kitchen, and a desk with a computer. It looked like a college dorm in New York, which was the only state from America Kaito remembered of from all those movies he used to watch alone.
"Wow." Kaito admired the room before jumping onto the bed that felt squishy. He knew that this would be the perfect bed to sleep on, especially after walking. He leaned back, resting his head on the wall before losing his eyes. His mind started drifting off somewhere he didn't know. Ever since John brought up his grandfather, Kaito started remembering what he had told him. "You aren't special, kid. You never had the power of the Shikichi family."
"Wow. What a nice room." A feminine voice crossed Kaito's ears, causing his eyes to widened. Joh told him that this was a dorm designated for boys, so why was a girl in here?!
Kaito turned his head and found a girl with beautiful black hair and bright blue eyes. She was wearing a traditional Kimono and looked like a princess with her hime-style hair cut. Kaito's heart thumped when the girl looked over at him with widened eyes. "Uh...who are you?" Kaito asked.
"Wait! You can see me?! You can actually see me?!" The girl ran up to Kaito, lookign straight into his eyes and causing him to flinch. "Thank goodness!" She smiled.
Kaito looked at the girl before repeating what he said, "Who are you?"
"Oh, that's right!" The girl giggled. "I'm Yukie!"
Kaito stared at Yukie, confused by who on earth she was. This was the first time ever he had seen her, but for an odd reason, she gave off a comforting feeling. It was like he could trust her even though he didn't know her.
"Nice to meet you, Yukie." Kaito grinned.
Yukie's expression became saddened, but then she quickly smiled again before nodding her head. "Nice to meet you too, Kaito."
Knowing that Kaito wouldn't be alone in this place was a comforting thought.
