Kaito opened up his eyes, noticing the familiar room. The white ceiling. The comfy bed that was elevated. The only difference this time was that rather than seeing just John, he saw Yijun and Ryan.
"Are you okay, Kaito?" John asked.
"Yeah. What happened?" Kaito sighed, feeling a sharp pain in his head.
"You fainted again. It seems to be a thing that happens a lot when you use your power, huh?" John stood up before walking over to the medicine cabinet. "I do have to say you do look healthier now, though."
What did he mean by healthier? Kaito wondered.
Kaito shot up from the bed of the nurse's office and ran up to a mirror. Somehow, he didn't know why, but his skin was no longer as white as snow and his white hair was now a darker white. His mind started wandering, wondering if it could have been that the gift finally chose him, giving him life?
"Kaito?" Yijun walked up to him, tilting her head with confusion. "What's wrong?"
"Do you two see my face?" Kaito pointed at his face. His hands were shaking a bit from the excitement he was feeling.
"Yeah? It looks normal, why?" Ryan added.
"No. Look closely." He moved up closer to Ryan and then to Yijun. "I'm not as pale, and my hair is not as white. Do you notice?"
Yijun and Ryan looked at each other before shrugging, seemingly not noticing the change in his appearance, even though Kaito could tell. His energy was even flowing through his body, somtheing he thought he would never feel again.
"Could you two leave the room, please? I have to discuss something with Shikichi here." He helped Ryan and Yijun out of the room.
John then walked over to the file cabinet in the room containing student records before handing Kaito some medicine. "Here."
Looking down at the medicine, Kaito raised his head, "What is this for?"
"It's so your bones don't break. The amount of power you used back there was enough to take a toll on your body." John placed the student record that read Yuuma Shikichi onto a desk. "Yuuma Shikichi is your father, correct?"
"That is correct. He's in America now. Ever since the death of my mother, he has never come back." Kaito drank the medicine before gagging at the taste of it. He was already used to these sort of questions since he had been interrogated previously by members he never knew to something when he was younger.
"Mai Shikichi, correct?" John continued scavenging through the records.
"Yes. Why are you asking me these questions?" Kaito sat down on the bed again, looking at John.
"I'm trying to figure out how on earth you spawned. Not once did you show signs before that one day, and yet here you are with a power so strong, anyone can see it." John squinted his eyes. "You grandfather has the power of prophecy. Your father the power of life and death to inanimate objects. Your late mother the power of dance that could change a single person's mood. And you, the gift of life and death to animate objects."
Kaito looked around the room, wondering if Yukie was hearing this, but to his surprise, she was no where to be seen. "Ah."
"Ah?" John furrowed his eyebrows.
"Oh. I can't explain why I my powers weren't revealed until now. I apologize." Kaito scratched the back of his head, trying to get out of the room to find Yukie. "But I really need to go."
"Go where?" John watch Kaito slowly moving his way toward the door of the nurse's office.
"Back to my room to check something out."
John narrowed his eyes as if he were suspicious of Kaito, but shrugged it off, letting him off the hook. "Alright. But I'll do more research on your power. That way, I can find the best training for you, Shikichi."
Kaito nodded his head before leaving the room. He walked down the hallway, looking in every nook and cranny for Yukie. To his dismay, she wasn't there. He couldn't ask anyone where she was. He couldn't even look to the police.
Sorrowful, Kaito walked into his room with his head down.
"Kaito. You're okay." Yukie ran up to him, hugging him.
Kaito's heart hurt when he felt her hug. He was relieved he hadn't lost her. "Yukie!" His squeezed her in his arms.
"Is everything alright?" Yukie sounded confused. She then released him from the hug and looked at him before smiling. "Wow! You look better."
"Yeah. I think because the gift finally accepted me." He hid his smile.
"I'm glad. I was worried it wouldn't. When you fainted again, I wanted to be by your side, but..." Yukie looked toward the door to the dorm before shaking her head. "Nevermind."
Kaito was a little confused why she didn't say what she was thinking, but she just shrugged it off. His feelings of joy were overflowing. He didn't lose Yukie.
