"Lunch time." Yukie stretched after a half-day of classes. Kaito never knew that going to this type of school—a special academy—compared to a public school would be harder. The lessons were confusing. The history was new compared to what he had previously learned. And his English wasn't all too excellent to understand the American classes on militia and military and how they correlated with the Chosen Ones' group.
The Animal Kingdom. I have always heard something about it, but I never knew what caused it. A failed experiment? How cruel could some people get? Kaito replayed what he learned in his head.
"Right, Kaito?" Yukie looked over at Kaito.
"Huh?" He looked at her, confused. "Sorry, something was bothering me."
"That's okay. Is everything alright?" Yukie tilted her head.
"Yeah." Kaito looked around, realizing they were both in the cafeteria. There were students gathered in different groups, as if already making cliques. There was the group of so-called popular students who were making out in a public area. There were the nerds who were building something. The misfits were at one table with a random guy wearing a mask with an X written on it. And the rest were the normal cliques you would find at any public school.
Kaito couldn't tell where to sit.
"You can choose where you want to sit. I'll follow." Yukie smiled.
"Well, we need to get food first." Kaito lowered his voice so people at the tables couldn't here him talking to Yukie. The last thing he wanted was for rumors to spread around about him talking to nobody.
Walking to the lunch ladies, Kaito ordered some oden and a little extra for Yukie. After ordering, Kaito walked over toward the "misfit" table, hoping they would accept him.
At the table, there was a girl with hair as red as red can be with fangs, and then to the left of her was the boy with a mask. Kaito took in a deep breath before gathering courage to talk to these two. "Um... Hello." He waved at them.
The girl looked up at Kaito with her eyes as red as her hair, and her teeth threatening. She then took a bite of her curry before saying, "You're the new kid, right?"
"Yes?" Kaito wasn't sure how to answer, looking at Yukie for help. Yukie smiled and urged him on to continue talking to her. "I'm Kaito Shikichi. Nice to meet you two."
The girl then sighed before replying, "Aren't you the one who is the strongest out of everyone here at the school? Shouldn't you be sitting with the more popular students than us?" Her voice sounded harsh, trying to rid of Kaito.
Kaito felt his heart hurt hearing those words. It felt like they didn't want him at their table nor did he belong. Right as he was ready to leave, Yukie placed her hand on his shoulder, nodding her head. After seeing her reassurance, Kaito knew he couldn't give up. He had to try his best to be friends with them.
"Well, I wanted to try being friends with you guys." Kaito sawllowed his fear. "You know, when I was in public school, I wasn't accepted anywhere. The only one who actually talked to me was my friend, Daisuke. Even then, I didn't feel like I belonged. Yet, I was glad Daisuke was able to be my friend. I hope we can create a similar connection. I want us to be friends." Kaito poured out his heart.
Feeling his feelings through his words, the girl and the guy felt moved. "Er..." The girl blushed, feeling embarrassed for trying to push him away. "I guess we can be friends."
Kaito's eyes brightened, and the guy with the mask held up his thumb. Did that mean they wanted to be friends too?!
"Thanks! What are your names?" Kaito became enthusiastic. Not only did he just make friends, but now he can actually get to know their names.
"I'm Charlotte, and this is Ivan." Charlotte introduced themselves.
Kaito looked over at Ivan. He couldn't help but wonder why he couldn't talk.
"Oh, he can't talk because if he does, he'll burst your ear drums." Charlotte explained before Ivan held up a sign.
"I'm sorry," his sign read.
"Oh, that's okay. I was just wondering." Kaito grinned.
"Hey, Kaito!" Yijun walked up to the misfits table, shocked to see Charlotte and Ivan there. "Charlotte..." Yijun hissed.
Shocked, Kaito looked over at Charlotte who was now also in a bad mood.
"Hey, Smell-jun." That insult was pathetic.
"Boyfriend stealer." Yijun felt like she gave the greatest comback of her life, but again, it was pathetic.
Although, not that I was supposed to give my personal opinion on a "girl fight," but at least come up with better insults if you were going to be mad at each other.
"Come on, Kaito. Let's go eat at another table." Yijun tried taking Kaito away, before Charlotte took Kaito by the arm.
"No. He's our friend now." She furrowed her eyebrows.
"When did that ever happen?" Yijun glared at Charlotte. "First you're a boyfriend stealer and now you're a friend stealer? You can't stop stealing, huh, you thief?"
Kaito then looked over at Yukie.
"Uh... I've never really had friends before, so I don't know what to do in this kind of situation." Yukie admitted, frightened.
"Um..." Kaito interrupted the fight. "I am actually Charlotte's friend, Yijun."
Yijun looked at Kaito as if she had just been betrayed. Her anger turned into disappointment, and her eyes softened.
"You mean, you're friends with this ****?"
Due to this story being a professional biography, we censored out what Yijun called Charlotte.
"What did you just call me, you ****?!" Charlotte replied.
Again, we apologize for the censoring.
"Please stop, you two." Kaito stopped the two from continuing to throw words that should not be spoken around anyone. "You both are my friends. I don't want you two fighting anymore!"
"That's right!" Ivan held up a sign.
"Fine. If you want to be friends with this ****, then that's fine by me." Yijun said, despite Kaito's honest attempt to stop her from using such vile words. "I'm not your friend anymore, Kaito! Good riddance."
Kaito stood there, shocked by how Yijun could drop a friend so easily like that.
"And if you continue being friends with her, then you can say good riddance to me too, Kaito." Charlotte added before walking away from the table.
Kaito stood there with Yukie and Ivan, shocked by what on earth happened. Why were girls so hard to deal with, he wondered...
