Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Why So Stingy?

"Why is it so cold?" Ning Yiyi remarked as she sat in front of the fire, stretching out her hands to warm them. Now that those pursuing her had been dealt with, she seemed to relax entirely.

Lin knew the temperature was low because of the skeleton warriors and immediately ordered them to disperse.

Ning Yiyi, aware of Lin's preference for silence, simply continued talking on her own. "I found a chest of opportunity in the Camp of the Carmen Orc Legion outside Shao Hai City," she began. "You know, these chests appear randomly, and I just happened to find one."

She explained that upon opening the chest, she acquired a mid-level skill scroll, which was then seen by those who pursued her. "They wanted my scroll. Even though it's not really worth much, how could I easily give away something I worked so hard to find?" she complained about being chased for days, likening her pursuers to persistent bugs.

Through Ning Yiyi's narrative, it was clear that even a mid-level skill scroll, valued at 10 million gold coins, was trivial to her, suggesting her family's immense wealth.

After she finished her tale, Lin softly pointed out, "You almost died just now."

Ning Yiyi reassured him, "Don't worry, I can't die that easily. I'll be automatically teleported away if I take fatal damage. Still, thanks to you, I might have been hurt, but at least I didn't die. Getting hurt is very painful, you know."

Lin felt his concern was unnecessary; she had treasures to keep her safe. Ning Yiyi then asked for more food, having not had her fill. Lin, without hesitation, provided her with more sweet potatoes, fulfilling her request with a quiet chuckle at her insistence for more, despite offering a mid-level skill scroll as a gift moments earlier.

The night passed, and with the dawn, Lin resumed his focus on leveling up, reflecting on Ning Yiyi's lively and playful demeanor, distinct from the girls at his school. As Ning Yiyi departed, promising to meet again, Lin couldn't help but consider the future adventures they might share.

Upon her leaving, Lin turned his attention back to the task at hand, practicing his newly acquired skill, Corpse Explosion, on the remaining bodies. The power of the skill was impressive, confirming its potential for both protective and offensive strategies in combat.

Through the solitude of the forest and the aftermath of battle, Lin contemplated his path forward, the lessons learned, and the unexpected friendship forged under the night sky.
