Word: Exaggerate
The Sword of Excalibur, a powerful magical sword described in legends. Wielded by King Arthur, the sword would grant its wielder otherworldly powers which the people would revere as holy. Such a ridiculous ruse. Legends and Myths are simply exaggerated tales of normal human beings, that is my belief.
There are no monstrous creatures, no magical powers, no powerful gods; everything is but an exaggeration of the tellers of the tales. Everything in this world is not special.
Striding the brick pavement of the English streets, the noise of vehicles overwhelmed my ears. Changing the route I usually take, the annoying sounds dissipated behind me. Everything went silent. Such a mysterious phenomenon.
Taking a step outside the alleyway, my senses disappeared. Everything turned dark. It was completely silent. And my limbs cannot feel anything, Dread overpowered the other emotions. What in the world was happening.
Suddenly, light blinded me. Without realizing it, my limbs instinctively block the bright light. The light dissipated, returning my senses. Moving my arm away, a lake appeared in front of me. It was dead at night. The crickets chirped as the water smashed angrily against the rocks. The other side of the river was a forest, home to predators which I definitely do not want to stumble upon. Despite the fascination I felt, confusion managed to fit through the gaps.
"That cannot be! I was just traveling towards the sidewalk! How can I be here!" I thought, infuriated by the impossible phenomenon.
A stream of light shined through the watres, and a familiar figure emerged from the shallows. The long, blonde hair cascaded to the waters. She had a peaceful expression. She wore a white dress draped in water and a crown that decorated her hair.
I was dumbstruck, captivated by her features… that is until I glanced down. Reaching out to me, she had a sword inside a decorated scabbard.
"The lady of the like," I whispered.
Swallowing my saliva, I slowly reached towards Excalibur. "What would happen If I wielded this sword?" "Will I receive magical powers?" Questions like this overflowed my mind. Shaking my head, I retracted my hand, anxious.
Glancing at the lady of the lake, a shiver ran through my spine. She was melting. Her eyes turned into dark irises, drooping dark liquid. Her mouth stretched into a smile, blackened by the dark liquid. The blade shook, losing support from the lady's melting arms. While disgust creeped behind my back, I snatched Excalibur from her. As I grabbed the weapon, the lady of the lake turned into dark liquid, contaminating the waters with its sinister color.
The noise of the vehicles blared throughout, snapping me back into place. My foot was outside the alleyway, while on my waist was a scabbard storing Excalibur.
