Chapter 26 - Coward

December 14, 2021

Words: Needle

The headaches are constantly assaulting me during uncertain times, like pins and needles helplessly piercing my brain in uncomfortable intervals. After the headaches came hazy moving pictures which decide the near future. It was visions stalking me with images of the future.I could not believe it the first time it occurred. However, as the visions happen constantly, I was able to confirm that it was indeed true.

It may be described as a blessing or a curse. To me, it was living hell.

In the near future came tragedies. Every single one of my visions involved lifeless bodies and bloodstained pavement. The setting in which such events happened was seemingly predictable. It was always the places I planned to visit. I realized I was somehow involved in the tragedies,

Therefore, when the visions came, I avoided going out at all. I thought maybe the visions would stop if I stayed inside.

It did not work. The visions worsened. Everyday, pain enveloped me. Everything was numb, yet my body suffered from a mysterious warmth that burned me. I attempted to endure it, but it kept poking the hornet's nest. Aguish filled my mind while enduring the hellish torture. Days passed, weeks gone by, finally…

…The visions stopped. I escaped death's door. I rejoiced at the top of my lungs, celebrating like a little child.

Everything went dark. I can't feel anything. Am I unconscious? What happened?

Eventually, I was able to open my eyes. A siren blared throughout, multiple figures stood before me. They wore a blue uniform and a cap with a golden badge at the center. They held a gun pointing towards me. It was the police.

"Please cooperate with us. Drop the weapon," the officer with a megaphone demanded.

I hesitated. My limbs become stiff, unable to move because of the sudden surge of anxiety. There was a red stain on the pavement. Tracing its origin, my eyes stumbled upon multiple disfigured bodies laying down beside me. Blood gushed out their abdomens, filling the gaps of the brick pavement.

Liquid made its way to my throat, sending me the desire to vomit. Ultimately, brown liquid rushed out of my mouth. Involuntarily bringing my hand up to stop the vomit, my eyes widened. I was holding a bloodstained knife. A hysterical scream left my mouth and threw it away.

I didn't do this! I would never do such a thing! Why would I ever relish the feeling of carnage? Something is controlling me! Something is forcing me to do this!

I finally understand. The visions were warning me. To protect the people from a rampaging entity that would possess me to commit bloodshed.

The police restrained me, cuffing my hands, and guided me towards the police truck. Pain enveloped my body once again, like pins and needles stabbing my entire body. A vision enlightened me. It was a prison cell, stained in blood. In the end, It cannot be stopped. The police truck door closed, setting in stone the inevitable future.
