Words: Lesson
"Don't cry," father comforted. "All things come to an end. Everything has a clock ticking to reach the inevitable demise."
The cold body of our dog rested on my arms, withering from lifelessness. The tears I wept overflowed from my eyes, soaking my cheeks and the body of the dog. The neverending grief I let out stayed persistent, refusing to disappear despite my father's efforts.
A warmth overwhelmed me. The tears suddenly stopped. It was fascinating. Looking up to my father, he gazed into my eyes with comforting eyes.
"He lived his life to the fullest, son." he reassured. "The days you played with him, the days we bonded with him— without those moments, he would be the same as strays seeking love and affection. Without us, he could have lived a life full of pain and sorrow."
Tears welled up in my eyes. I understood my father's words, yet to lose someone precious felt so painful. A wail left my mouth.
"You should do the same to everyone, son. Become their unforgettable comrade, create memories with them, understand their needs and love them as a person." he explained.
Bang
"You should also know your purpose. Fulfill that purpose in order to live to the fullest, son"
The words of my father echoed in my head while the sound of rain resonated around me. The fallen criminal, illuminated by the streetlamp, clutched his leg suffering from pain. Soaked from the rain, I maintained my aim as I approached the man.
Smoke dissipates from the barrel of the pistol on my hand. Bringing the barrel closer to my face, I blew the smoke before holstering it. Handcuffing the criminal, Informed paramedics arrived at the scene.
"I swear I'll find your killer, father," I whispered.
