Chapter 16 - Sus

December 4, 2021

Words: Style, Psychology

"What the actual fuck, Brad?"

There is a person standing before me with confused eyes. He was wearing a beanie, low loose pants, tattered shirt, and leather sandals. My disappointment was immeasurable

"What? What's the problem, bro?" Brad asked, genuinely puzzled.

"Remind me where we are going?"

"I don't know, you told me to come here without saying anything,"

"I told you to prepare for my sister's wedding! I reminded you several times over the phone!"

"Oh that's why you're wearing a suit. I knew that it was unusual for you to wear something bold," Brad chuckled. I can't believe this guy.

"Whatever, I'll buy the clothes for you. Let's go to a place I know," I suggested

"You're buying me clothes for free? What a lucky day," Brad chuckled loudly, alerting the pedestrians. They glared at us for a long time before Brad burst in laughter, much louder than before.

Officers approached us for questioning. One was a man in his sixties. He had a thick brown beard and a large body. The other had a young appearance, a healthy body with a baby face.

The young officer glared at Brad. He tapped the older officer's shoulder and whispered in his ear. The officer nodded.

"Can I ask your friend to cooperate and take a visit to the police department?" the old officer asked.

Brad, scratching his head, reluctantly agreed.

"Wait, officer, you might be misunderstanding," I said. "I ask for your forgiveness for the inconvenience my friend caused"

The old officer brought out handcuffs and restricted Brad's movements.

"We are taking your friend for question in another matter," the old officer explained

I tilted my head, puzzled. He signed, approaching me with a concerned expression.

"You can come to the police department for more details."

Arriving at the local police department, a place where most of the crimes in the city had been solved, I darted around to find the officers who detained Brad.

The officers had suspicions. They told me they had to confirm something before he could be released.

They explained that he had a strange smell. The young officer beside him had a strong sense of smell similar to those of k9s. Intrigued, I asked what made the smell suspicious.

"Your friend, Brad, had a smell lingering around him. It was a aroma similar to those of addicts" the young officer explained

"Addicts?" I asked

"Drug addicts," he elaborated.

My eyes widened. Brad had drugs?

"He is not the kind of person who would do such a thing!"

"That is was I smelled, I'm afraid"

"Are you absolutely sure of your judgement?"

"That is the reason for your friend's custody," the old officer stepped in. "We took him here to get him tested. Let's not get carried away and wait for the results"

Speechless, I nodded. I attended my sister's wedding with an expressionless face, still dumbfounded by the situation. While I was enjoying the exquisite meals the venue offered, my friend sat in jail waiting for the results of his drug test. I cannot allow myself to enjoy while my best friend is under suspicion of drug use.

Tomorrow came, the police contacted me to announce the results. It was positive. My friend, Brad, was under the influence of drugs when he came to meet me. They informed me that they also searched his residence. It was confirmed that there was a workshop in his basement where he developed his homemade drugs. They also confirmed that he planned to sabotage the wedding by implanting the drugs into the guest's drinks.

What. In. The. Actual. Fuck. Brad. I thought we were friends.
