There's something that was about to explode in my head. "When did that start?"
"About, three years ago." Kara said, fidgeting on her seat.
So this girl had been slowly killed with these for almost three years. But it was only an attempt since Kara was so smart to handle the poisonous herbs and plants. "What.. about Conrad? DId he say something?"
"No," She looked at me, her eyes showing no hope for some reason. "I'm a slave, Eliana. No one cares about me. Only Lisa is like a mother to me. But she doesn't know anything about this and I was always the one who went to her place. I don't like it when she comes to this house."
I exhaled, tapping down the anger on my brain. "Then it will change, Kara." I went to the wall where some of the plants were hanging there. Without hesitation, I rip those, throwing it to the empty basket nearby.
"Eliana!" Kara gasped behind me. But there's nothing that could change my mind. I won't get bullied like this.
I continued putting everything that I could safely touch with my hand into the basket.
Kara was grabbing my hand, stopping me. Her face was afraid. "We will get punished, Eliana."
"It's better than doing nothing." I'm not joking when I say I want to end this ridiculous torment. If I had to face their warth, then let them come.
It was later at night after dinner time, when Lisa brought me back to the manor. As soon as I entered the back garden, Rupert approached me, telling me that I needed to go to the office. What a coincidence. Because I also need to say something to Keegan.
"You're back." Keagan said.
He stopped what he was doing in the middle when he saw me. "Take a seat. I need to ask you something."
"What is that?" I asked back.
Keegan looked different, a little nervous if I'm not wrong. He cleared his throat, "How's that place?"
"..." What did he want to know? "A place full of poisonous herbs?"
"I know that! I mean.." He cleared his throat once again, "You know.. That girl. How's her?"
"Kara?" She said Keegan was once her childhood friend. "She's dying slowly?"
A surprised expression flashing on his face. "What do you mean by dying?" Keeagan stood up, walking towards me. "What do you mean by that?"
I rasphed, "Keegan, I was going to ask if you intend to kill me slowly, by putting me in the place like that."
To my surprise, Keegan took me by my shoulder. His grip was strong. "What do you mean? She's fine and not sick."
"She's not fine. Not so fine that she might slowly die by the time." I looked at Keegan. His pupils were slightly shaken, and it might only be my judgment, but this man couldn't hide his panic.
"You guys are literally putting her near to her death." I told him the truth. I told everything about the situation in the house. How she was neglected for more than three years ago.
That girl is in torment everyday. Imagine her house is her battlefield. If she was not careful enough while touching or removing those herbs, or while she was stocking it, she might get killed slowly.
I also told him about Rebecca, his only mate and Stella were the one doing this scheme to her. Also about the risk of her health with no medical team to check, about her hope that was not visible in her eyes, about how everyone left her alone. I told him everything. And somehow, I was satisfied when I saw a terror in Keegan's eyes.
Proof to my assumption, this man cared for her.
Keegan released his grip on my shoulder, as he tried to control his emotion. He threw the glass to the wall and made it shatter on the floor, as the red wine stained the carpet. He screamed. And by the time he finished wrecking his room, Rupert and the other guards were storming to the office, calming their master.
"Rupert!" Keegan barked. "Inform the Ingmire, I will visit their manor right now. Make sure Stella is there when I arrive!"
I shook my head, this was not my problem. But at least I know he had a soft spot for his childhood friend. Kara was not alone eventually.
I went back to the maid place, directly to my room. Let's wait for what happened tomorrow.
- Conrad -
I was in the Ingmire manor when one of their butlers burst into the room interrupting us. I was talking about the next business project with Stella and her father, Ricky Ingmire.
"What is this? How dare you disturb us!" Ricky stood from his seat, shouting at his man.
That butler kneeled down in front of us. "I.. I'm sorry sir. But.. But there's an urgent call from Keegan Geargo manor, he said he wants to meet with Stella right now."
"At this late?" Ricky asked.
"Yes, they are already on the way here, Sir." The butler said.
I hadn't talked with Keegan since our last night's conversation with Father. In fact, I need the time to calm my emotions down.
"Why does your brother want to see me, Conrad?" Stella asked from her seat, seeming confused.
"Let him come," I ordered.
Ricky nodded, then told his man to prepare for Keegan's coming. After thirty minutes, my brother did come here, but his coming was not friendly in any way. He burst in from the front door, called out Stella with his high voice. Keegan never confronted people like this.
"Stella!" He shouted.
We were rushing down the stairs. This was the first time I saw how my brother showed his true anger. His vein was visible and I know, he was about to turn to his wolf.
As soon as he saw Stella walking down the stairs, he was about to rush into her. But I gripped his chest, blocking him from getting near her. We had the rules. No wolf form when dealing with family. And Stella was considered family by my father's words. "Keegan!" I called out.
