An unsuspecting Kareena went on with her work days per usual. With the humiliation she gave Christopher, she did not expect him to bother her anymore. It was even more evident when he did not call her number again.
"WHAT?" May's shocked voice resounded in Kareena's ear as soon as the elevator doors swung open. Kareena was currently making way to her office from the underground parking lot. "How dumb does he think you are?"
"The fact that he considers me even the slightest bit dumb to buy his bull is so offensive", Kareena replied.
She spotted a long sleeved knee-length dress, with a snug off-shoulder upper body and a flowy skirt, and matching pumps. Her makeup was her signature look, natural, with a red lip.
"Wow. And to think he got caught doing the thing he was actually accusing you of", she scoffed. "If not for my line of work, I would've introduced his face to my fist and foot. Please tell me you at least did a number on him?"
"Have you forgotten whose precious little boy he is?" Kareena chuckled softly in mockery.
"So what? You're not scared of him, are you?"
"No, but it's a waste of time. I'm just glad he's out of the picture. I feel relieved for some reason", she tilted her head, finding her feelings and honest words odd.
People usually mop in their feelings of hurt after a breakup, especially a nasty one like hers due to a partner's infidelity. However, she was different. Three months ago, she found proof of him cheating and dumped him on the spot. Right then, she was dispatched for a few missions from the agency, the last one that brought her home being one she ended up in Country S and having that steamy night with a stranger.
Christopher didn't even come to mind when she came back. Only when he showed up, did she remember their history and found his antics foolish instead of hurtful. She was really an odd one.
"I think that guy's d*ck game must have been that good, it literally erased all your heartbreak", May chirped in sassily.
"Bye", Kareena replied, sounding irritated. She truly grew irritated at the reminder of those grey orbs...., that sexy smirk...., those muscular arms..., that-
"Okay, okay", May chuckled. "And speaking of precious little boys, hows our little one? Have you heard from him? I haven't spoken to him since we came back."
"Not after you embarrassed him like that."
"I embarrassed him? Kareena?" She questioned, her tone practically saying 'you know the truth'.
"Good morning Miss Trivedi", Cody greeted his boss as she walked by.
"Is that Cody?" May shrieked excitedly before Kareena could speak. The latter terminated the call only to receive a text seconds later.
May: You're literally an enemy of progress. I looked out for your 😼, you SHOULD look out for mine!!!!
Kareena shook her head at the content and put her phone away. Cody rushed to get the door for her with a tablet in hand. She took him in as she walked past him, into the office.
He was a head taller than her, short black hair sat on his head, he was clean shaven wearing slacks, shirt and tie always underneath a sweater. Two years of being her assistant and she knew him to always wear the school boy look.
She was not sure if he was burly or the shirt fabric underneath the sweater caused his arms to look big. His ocean blue eyes rarely met her intimidating golden brown ones unless they were in a meeting or when giving her his opinion.
"Anything on my agenda this morning?" She asked, hearing him close the door.
"It's the legal, Miss Trivedi, they wanted to discuss with you about the Rosario case." He waited for her to sit before placing the tablet on her desk. "I put them on your 10 o'clock but they said they won't take long."
"Why do they want to see me?"
"It's about the defamation case. They want to make sure they take the necessary steps that are to your liking."
"How are their kids?"
"Ma'am?" He called, a little confused. He only got silence and left his brain to work fast enough to figure out she referred to the Rosario kids. "They're getting better."
"Right." She fell in thought.
It was true that the Rosario couple had done a lot to damage her business but she's the one who blew things out of proportion. And it was also true that their kids had nothing to do with their parents' ill intentions. Frankie may have called her cruel but Kareena was a softie especially to kids who were victims of their parents' actions and circumstances.
"Tell them to do enough to punish the parents, but no harm should come to the kids. Make sure that they are well cared for until the older one is of legal age", she ordered.
"So they don't need to see you?" Cody confirmed only to receive a glare. She didn't have to repeat herself. "I'm sorry ma'am. Understood."
With that, he left her office to carry out her orders. Kareena run a hand through her hair and took a deep breath. All of this would have been avoided if those two had just minded their business.... They just had to make things complicated especially for their kids. She hated complicated.
Her gaze fell to a huge TV on the wall. She took a remote and turned it on. She needed something to distract her from her current feelings. She looked for a news channel that was not talking about her.
"It's finally tomorrow!! Everyone is excited!! We have to understand that the Met Gala will be his first public appearance", a male news anchor. "The very first!"
It was news about the Met Gala again. It was definitely being talked about a lot lately. But it was better than her own news. With the sound playing in the background, she started to get some work done.
"No one has seen him, yet he's a man who's gotten nearly the whole entertainment industry excited!! This is definitely something to look forward to", a female anchor responded.
"His name alone is enough to get everyone talking", he laughed.
"Of course! He is the President's-"
Ring! Ring!
Kareena reverted her gaze from the documents she was looking at to the landline ringing. She put it on hands free and proceeded with what she was doing.
"Miss Trivedi, the reception just called", Cody's familiar voice resounded in the room.
"Yes?"
"Mr. Kewl is downstairs causing a ruckus."
Kareena held her head and let out a soft sigh. It seemed his ego had not been bruised at all seeing as he was back. She thought too highly of him. Too highly.
