Chapter 26 - Anything but exciting

In another city

Frankie's words proved to be true. At the tip of one's fingers, one could keep up with any news thanks to technology and Kareena's news was no exceptions.

A long finger swiped on their device, going through the updated news concerning Trivedi's. The person's dark brows furrowed as they read the comments people left.

"Anyone?" A voice belonging to a middle-aged woman spoke, breaking the person's attention from their phone.

The person looked around. Just like them, there was a crowd of people sat in their respective seats with laptops or books resting on their desks. The middle aged woman stood at the front of the room, a projector displaying content she had been lecturing on behind her.

"Okay", she closed her computer along with the projector. "Twenty pages, Monday morning, at seven."

"Ugh!" Everyone groaned.

"Professor Kirkwood?" Someone called out.

"Yes", Professor Kirkwood answered as she packed her teaching tools.

"Some of us have a ton of assignments due on the same day, and 7 is too early. Do you think you could adjust the time?"

"Yeah!" People agreed.

"Sure. 6 a.m."

"Ugh!"

The professor smirked as she walked out of the class leaving the students grumbling. The students soon shuffled out of the room including the person who had been looking up Trivedi's new

"Damn that Professor Kirkwood! Why is she so uptight?" A boy complained.

"I have five assignments due on the same day, we're three days away from the due date and I haven't even started one", another one chirped in.

"Yeah, you're f*cked Curtis", the first one replied with amusement. "And we have the Frat party tomorrow."

Curtis rung a few curses in frustration while his friend laughed. He looked over at the third person walking with them who had been been glued to their phone instead of complaining about their situation.

"Yo, Ashton", he nudged his shoulder and caught a glimpse of what he was looking at. "This again? Someone would think you're related to the Trivedi's seeing how you've been obsessing over their news."

Ashton run a hand through his curly midnight black locks, his golden brown orbs flashed with amusement as he answered, "I am."

The two boys fell silent before they broke out laughing like they had just heard a good joke holding their stomachs and wiping imaginary tears.

"Related? Just because you share the same surname? Then I might as well be Bill Gates' son since we share the same names", Bill scoffed.

"Don't listen to him Billy, just look at him. The only plate he can afford right now is one at the cafeteria, and you're talking about being related to Trivedi's", Curtis laughed.

"You have the mouth to insult me, you haven't even started on your assignments", Ashton sneered.

"And you have?" Curtis taunted.

"I'll be done by tonight, including the one Professor Kirkwood just gave us", Ashton bragged, earning a whistle of admiration from Billy.

"Uh..." Curtis started uneasily. "Not tonight guys. We have a match."

"What match?" Ashton and Billy asked in unison.

"Well, uh, well, Baxter and his boys have been taunting us for a duel so I booked us for tonight's event", he quickly explained.

"Curtis- you!"

"Come on man!!"

"I thought we agreed no games this week", Ashton complained.

"Need I remind you, again, you haven't even started on your assignments. Ashton and I are better off at this point", Billy shook his head.

"Come on guys, we'll beat them in one smooth go and then we'll do our assignments. Besides, have you heard about the incentives that Claudesoft is giving out during this event? It's a whole goldmine if you ask me!" Curtis's eyes shone like he had seen actual gold.

"No", Ashton said with a shake of his head.

"Come on guys", Curtis swung his arms over his friends' shoulders. "Billy, you're the greatest defender I know, Ashton you're the best strategist and team leader, what can an offender like me do without you guys? And this is not just about me, it's for our team's honor. And remember, the incentives! Come on, this is our chance to level up and qualify for the tournament."

The two boys fell silent, obviously melting to their friend's convincing. It would be nice if they qualified for the tournament. And the glory to their name that would come with defeating Baxter and his lackeys.

Ashton and Billy exchanged a look and nodded. "Fine."

"Yes!!" Curtis fisted the air in victory. "We win the match today, and we celebrate our victory at the Frat party tomorrow! College life is the shit!"

"And your assignments", Billy reminded him.

"Yes, yes, the assignments too", Curtis responded absentmindedly, obviously imagining the two things he was excited about. Ashton and Billy laughed at their friend, neither knowing that their weekend was about to be anything but exciting...
