Chapter 9 - Uneasiness of the Elves

The news of the death of seven elven youth did not take time to spread.

Some said, "A true tragedy, isn't it?" others were saying "This had to be that cursed King of the Night, of course, he'd prey on children.", only the warriors of the elven society could say "He could come pick on people like us, people his size."

It was a common saying not to call out a god no matter how malevolent they were, seems like these elves needed to be told that.

There was no way the prideful and egotistical King of the night was going to let this insult go without compensation. Maybe a life or two, or maybe an entire village will be enough to pay such a debt.

One of the seven elven kingdoms in Hilderia was a Kingdom of such renowned magic, knowledge, and connection to Mother Nature - which was probably the strongest connection out of all the other races.

Rumors of different caliber spread in the elven kingdom of Kurdila.

"So, the history books were right, the King of the Night is real", said an elder elf. "No, it is nothing but a nightmare story to warn children not to go to the forests in the dark. Just think of it how can a being have more power than the dragons themselves 'the slayer of the Vestr' What a joke another elf said in retort.

"Hahaha"

The whole group of elven chiefs laughed at the idea of the Ultimate predators claiming it to be an unreal joke and what a crime it was to them.

"Great King Samuel I humbly request that we at least send a team to the Ashloven islands to make some inquiry. My daughter was one of the murdered!", said the elf who believed in the 'History books.'

Other elves burst into a fit of discussion upon discussion.

"Do you question my competence? Huh, Landert? Am I a weak king? Am I ?!" The angered urgency in the voice of the king quieted all the elders.

Who was this young King Samuel?

Who was he to yell at an elder?

How did such a hot-headed elf become king?

The poor elf just lost an offspring, can't you cut some slack?

From the faces of the other elves in the room, this seemed to be a uniformly conveyed message.

"Landert"

Looking up he replied, "My king?"

"Kneel."

This supposedly new king wasn't here to play the sooner the elders realized this the better. The elves were in shock, this new young King had no respect for any of them.

The order from King Samuel was met by hesitation from Landert and contempt from the other elders.

Murmuring

More murmuring

"Chint? ... Is there something you would like to share with the rest of us?" pointing his scepter to the disobedient elder then all the elders.

"No, my lord," said another elder elf wearing a royal gown adorned with greens across his clothes.

His pointing ears flared in total rage.

"Everybody Kneel!" in fear of this seemingly unstable King everybody hesitantly bent their legs to the floor.

He then continues "My father always said that a King's word was absolute and was to be taken as a law. I apologize for the disrespect, but the next time I give an order I expect it to be taken with effective immediacy and without hesitation".

"Apologies our King", all said in unison.

"You may sit," he said as all the kneeling elder elves stumbled to get up and sit.

With contempt on their faces.

Samuel IV was the son and former crowned prince of the nation of Kurdila, after his father's 'mysterious death' reluctantly ascended the throne.

He knew that the court of elders despised him and his late father, they tried to kill the entire royal Kurdilan bloodline to take control of all of the elves in Kurdila.

He knew he had to do something but was unsure of how to implement it with the loss of his life.

Blessed with an uncontrollable and great aptitude for magic from a very young age, Samuel IV carried a scepter with him everywhere he went where he poured out his excess magic essentially storing for a time it was most needed.

It was the ultimate power given to an elf, though the power in the scepter was limited not like the likes of the upper echelons of power like the Ultimate hunter or the dragons it was enough to do anything he wanted. Furthermore, he could always draw from Hilderia to empower himself.

Skilled in the art of swordsmanship as required by elven law: Any elf that calls themselves warrior must hold mastery of at least one physical combat type.

Although he was more liking to the path of adventure and the life of a free hero rather than that of the restrictions and responsibilities of a king, he reluctantly took to the throne of the Kurdilan throne.

His father Samuel III saw in, great potential, the once-in-a-millennium kind of potential, a potential that he himself or his father before him lacked.

Potential not seen since the great founder Elf Adams.

The elves though they were powerful, had limits.... too many limits.

They had a prophecy about the doom of Hilderia:

On the day of the brightest sun

will come the greatest mourn,

When all factions in an all-out conflict

will have Hilderia stripped.

All will be consumed in a sea of utter destruction

by the power of a mighty suction.

...

He was told this by the oracle of the elves on a travel to a different elven nation, after his father's death.

Shortly after that, he took to the throne.

Determined to use the power that runs deep in his veins, his power to prevent the death of Hilderia it was his duty as an elf to serve Mother Hilderia and as King of the elves giving him double duty with a single goal.

He then ascended the throne as nonsense to the elders who he knew took the life of his beloved father, and just to his people.

Even if it meant his death, he was determined to avenge his father and prevent the prophecy.

A true hero in every sense of it and a king in the making ready to sacrifice himself for the betterment and survival of his people.

"We will wage war on all the other races very soon"

"You have my word Landert; you shall have your vengeance I will find who did this. No one shall break the elven laws and get away with it." Saying this he got up and left the room.
