Chapter 1 - Her Life Decision

As early as 8am, Alyssa had sat with her mother to have the early morning breakfast at the comforting home of their presidential villa on the outskirts of the city. About ten maids and servants stood serving and offering them the various just then cooked food on the long glass- made table of their royal dinner in the wide magnificent living room.

Devastatingly hungry, she watched an old maid who'd she known working in their house for a very long time passed and served her some parts of the prepared roasted chicken in her plate.

"Thank you very much, ma'am" She acquiesced to the woman respectfully.

"You're welcome, miss Alyssa" The woman said curtly while bowing her head and not looking at her face all the while she stood before walking away standing a few feet behind her waiting for a beck or call.

Her mouth watered while looking at the enticing food that'd been set before her, she took the silver ware fork and cutting knife that was beside her golden plate intending to begin eating much at once as she was badly starving.

Carefully cutting a part of the roasted chicken with the short knife in her right hand, she dipped her fork into the cutted chicken part before slowly taking it into her mouth.

Chewing it, she sighed in delight at how savouring and delicious it tasted. She wasn't minding the closed look her mother had on her until.....

"That reminds me Alyssa, you didn't tell me how the blind date I arranged for you with Mason the son of Aaron from the 'Brandice Group' went yesterday" She said instantly really quick leaving her shocked and transfixed at the sudden moment she'd heard the words.

Being about to eat another cutted piece of chicken, Alyssa once held firmly cutleries fell from her hands as she was halted to a stop and a pause like she's been stunged by a bee unmoving due to the pain.

With precision in a really slow manner, her raised hands dropped to the table and quietly sat with her heads bowed. She brought her gaze really low as she knew that her mother's eyes would be on and staring watchful at her now.

"Alyssa" Her named was called again by her mother slowly loosing it calm tone but she wasn't looking up to meet her hard gaze.

Silently looking at nothing but space was how, Alyssa sat and was for as long as seven minutes. Due to this, her mother knew inevitably and definitely that something was really wrong somewhere and amiss.

Composed and calmly, she quietly asked,"Is there anything I should know that you're not telling me, young lady?"

Amazed, Alyssa lifted her head up and met her mother's suspicious and unbelieving stare. Hurriedly, her gaze fell low and she pondered on what to say as there was really something that she needed to know but she was worried and fearsome of how she would be taking it.

"Alyssa?" Her mother called once more this time in a more question like tone.

Severely snapping from her troubling thoughts, Alyssa looked at her detecting eyes that where scanning and searching her for something as flase.

Scared, she quickly in a hurry muttered and lied, "No, mom. Why would you even be thinking that? There really isn't anything that you haven't know"

Seeing her mother buying her lie and was convinced, she breathe a breath that she hadn't known she have been holding in the whole time.

"Okay then" Her mother started, pausing as she continued with the food before making her all quiet some again and going on to ask, "Now, can you tell me all the detail of the blind date I settled up for you with Mason Brandice?"

Again, Alyssa head fell low and she was somehow quivering lowly.

Her mother felt annoyed by her repeated and unwilling quietness that her voice loose it warmth totally as she impatiently asked,"Well, won't you be telling me now? Or are you planning to inform me fully about it some other time that would be convenient for you?"

Wondering what to say instinctively, she raised her heads to meet her mother's eyes that were quite stern and also a lot hard. They were eyes that was sure to display much expected anger and great displeasure soon.

'C'mon, on with it!' She chided herself inwardly. 'Out with the truth already'

Hurriedly, Alyssa responded truthfully in a whisper,"I'm sorry, but i didn't attend the date you'd set up, mom"

When the true effect of her words had dawned entering her mother ears, her slightly calmed face turned into one of anger as she became furious and her expression was in a fit of rage.

"What?" She slammed her hands on the fragile dining table getting up abruptly scaring her with her outburst along with the maids and servants that were standing by on duty.

"Why didn't you attend the arranged date, Alyssa?" Her mother demanded looking at her upset and in wild unbelief.

Knowing nothing she said would be taken into consideration or heard, she sat quietly listening to her mother begin to raved and rattled on and on obviously mad at her negligence. Unable to do anything, she could only keep sitting there letting her vent out her frustration.

"Did you think it was easy for me convincing Mr Brandice to let you get a shot with his son knowing that their wealth status was a lot more than ours? Like what's wrong with you, Alyssa? How could you think of doing this?" Her mother bombarded her with questions not giving her a chance to even try to answer any of them nor say a word.

Immediately, that her mother had quiet down a little, she'd thought that these shouting and vexations of hers had come to an end and died all of a sudden. Later on, she realized that her mother was far from being done talking as she went on much more further.

"Why would you do this to me?Did you know how much effort of pleas and enticement I'd to put in for you to get that peach?" Her mother asked again totally in calmed now.

Formidably, her mother looked down at her so batty that for once she wanted to slap her hard right across the face for how stupid she could be sometimes a thing that she'd never done before.

"Gosh, you won't kill and neither will be the end of me" She lamented with her hands now on the table looking crazily at her. Then, she tried composing herself again before sitting down tiredly. But then, her face still dispelled showing great anger.

"Why didn't you attend the date, Alyssa?" Her mother asked after settling down in a not so friendly tone.

Looking at the hem of the slit red gown she'd wore, Alyssa was now in thought of what she could reply her until she'd made her have enough of her silent attitude.

"You look up at me when I'm talking to you, young lady" Her mother snapped at her and in a fright of her ever grown anger she lifted up her head avoiding her eyes quickly.

Since from childhood, she's been scared to death when her mother got vexed as she was a quiet loving person who doesn't get angry to easily or much. But then, when she does it wasn't a just a little but a whole lot more.

"Mom, I'm very sorry about not attending the date please forgive me" She apologized shivering like a drenched chicken hoping to regain the peace that one ensued between them but her mother wasn't ready to hear of it nor accept her treaty.

"Enough!" Her mother declared flaring up. "Alyssa, i want you to tell me your excuse for not going for the date now"

Bracing up, she calmly said what her decision so far was and what'd always been on her mind. The answer she'd always known and had every time she was being asked this question.

"I'm not ready to enter a relationship, mom" She answered easily.

"Oh, again with this" Her mother hissed with a wave of her hands. "What do you mean by you're not ready to have a romantic relationship with a man? Or yet having a boyfriend?"

Sighing seeing that her mother wasn't in views of her points, she placed her hands tiredly on her dark as the night long hair feeling stressed, depressed and also worked up.

"I'm way too young, mom, there is still always going to be much time for doing all these things in my life if i want to" She explained in a rush.

"If you want to, what do you mean by if you want to? Oh please, don't you try as much tell me that, Alyssa" Her mother dismissed with a wave of her hand adjusting in her sit immediately she'd said it. "You're already 26 years of age aren't you supposed to be married by now giving an heir to our family business that your father left in your care? Did you want to die leaving it all empty and unoccupied? I'm supposed to have my grand kids by now, don't you know? Or you want yo give birth and marry when I'm dead or long in my grave, right?"

"How can that happen now, mom? I mean, you're just 52 years of age and still young to me" She said matter-of-factly.

"Can you granty me now that I won't be dying any minutes soon?" Her mother shot back at her.

"Mom!" She muttered gasping with her hands covering her mouth. "Please, don't say that again"

"Then, if I don't would you do what I want, Alyssa? Should I rescheduled the blind date again?" Her mother asked sadly with impatience.

"Please, try to understand, mom, I'm not ready for that now" She spelled out. "I don't even want to see or have anything to do with Mason Brandice"

"What do you mean by you're not just ready? What do you need to be ready or think to be prepared for?" Her mother wondered out loud.

"I don't want to date or be with a man now in my life presently, mom" She stated firmly.

"But why?" Her mother asked yet again.

"Because it's my decision" She yelled having enough of her forced intrusion on the matters concerning her and her own anger rising within inside of her.

"What sort of ridiculous decision is that?" Her mother asked with a frustrated sigh.

"It mine, mom, I decide what I'd be wanting for my life as it's my own" She said defiantly.

They've both had it with each other up to their very necks now and saw no reason to let it all out as how they felt it.

"Now, you listen to me you're going to be attending that date with Mason Brandice again whether you like it or not, young lady" Her mother informed her wisely.

"No, I'll not, mom, you can't force me to do want I don't want to do" She said aloud now rising from her own chair where she'd sat.

The maids and servants could only watch the drama unfolding in front of them between mother and daughter as they couldn't dare to interfere in the matter else it will cost them their handsomely paying jobs.

"Alyssa Jazzlyn Attlesey, don't you as much dare to disobey or violate my said words now because they're final" She said quickly pointing a finger of her lavishing and decorated left hand at her.

"Mom, like what do you even so want from me?" She asked exasperatedly.

"You'd like to know all I want?" Her mother asked not so taken aback of how stressed she'd gotten her.

"Yes I'd want to because you're frustratingly bothering me" She responded immediately.

"Well, all i want from you now is for you to have a boyfriend and get married at soonest, Alyssa" Her mother announced her expected to be granted demands.

"I'm not ready for that, mom, once again, I'm sorry, but that can't ever happen" She apologized calmly before turning walking away from the dinner as all thanks to her mother she'd now lost her appetite for the once sweet food.
