Chris' POV

There was no escaping the reality of my situation, with a resigned sigh, I stepped out of the car, my eyes fixed on the concrete beneath my feet.

I made my way through the halls of the office building, my footsteps heavy and leaden. Employees and subordinates greeted hello, their pleasantries falling on deaf ears.

I stepped into my office, shutting the door behind me with a soft click. The space was large, the décor tasteful and expensive. But it offered me no comfort, no solace.

I sank into my chair, my eyes fixed on the wall. There were mountains of paperwork to be done, emails to answer, meetings to attend. But none of it seemed to matter.

As the minutes ticked by, I found myself lost in a sea of thoughts, waves of doubt crashing against the shores of my mind. I tried to work but I couldn't even concentrate. 

"Was it worth it?" I asked myself, my voice a whisper.
