Chapter 25 - Divine Slayer's Regrets

After disappearing from the place, they instantly appeared in front of a certain hospital.

And, as soon as they did, Divine Slayer ran inside and rushed toward the morgue.

The morgue was located on the first floor, and as soon as he reached there, he was greeted by a woman wearing a nurse's outfit.

"Sir, may I help you?" The woman asked and a small smile was visible on her lips.

However, Divine Slayer didn't give her a reply.

Instead, he pushed her aside and opened the door leading to the morgue.

The morgue was a big room, with several shelves filled with dead bodies.

There were at least a hundred corpses, and they were all lying on top of the metal shelves.

"Where is she?" Divine Slayer asked, and his black eyes began to shine with golden luster.

His eyes scanned the room, and then, they landed on the fourth shelf.

His wife's body was lying on top of it, and a white cloth was covering it.

"Here," He mumbled, and he quickly made his way toward the shelf.

After he reached there, he removed the cover from his wife's face.

And, as soon as he did, a gasp escaped his lips.

"Oh god," He whispered, as he saw the state his wife was in.

Her body was covered with scars and wounds, and her face was bruised and swollen.

There was dried blood on her forehead, and her clothes were torn and ragged.

Her beautiful blonde hair was matted and stained with dirt, and her eyes were shut tight.

"Oh god," Divine Slayer couldn't help but curse again, as he saw the condition his wife was in.

While looking, he noticed that one of his wife's arms was cut from her elbow, and it was nowhere to be found.

"How did this happen?" He asked, and his hands began to tremble.

"Who did this?"

His voice was shaking, and his hands were trembling.

He couldn't believe his eyes, and his mind couldn't accept what he was seeing.

"I...I don't know, but..." The nurse hesitated, and her gaze was fixed on the ground.

"It was a Breakout," She finished, and the moment she said those words, Divine Slayer's heart sank.

A Breakout.

A fucking Breakout?

All of this happened because of a Breakout?

Divine Slayer couldn't believe it, and his mind refused to accept it.

"What, what did you say?" His voice was barely a whisper, and his eyes were filled with disbelief.

"A Breakout, yes." The nurse replied, her voice was shaky, and she seemed afraid.

"I, I don't know how, but, a Breakout happened in a restaurant, and, and, your wife was there."

"She was caught up in it."

Hearing this, Divine Slayer fell to his knees, and his body was shaking uncontrollably.

"I'm sorry," He cried, and tears began to fall down his cheeks.

"I'm sorry,"

And, as he knelt there, he remembered the time when he first met his wife.

It was four years ago.

They were in a restaurant, and they had just started dating.

At that time, a Breakout happened and both of them were caught up in it.

Luckily, at that time he was with her, and he was able to protect her.

That is the reason why she was able to live and become his wife.

But, now, today, he wasn't there to protect her, and she had died in a Breakout.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," He kept apologizing, but no matter how many times he did, the situation didn't change.

His wife was dead, and he couldn't do anything about it.

"I should've been there, I should've saved her, I should've done something," He said, and he didn't know why, but he started to cry.

"Now, who is gonna get angry at me when I come late?"

"Who is gonna scold me for not taking care of my appearance?"

He began speaking, and the tears continued to fall.

"Who is gonna make me wear suits and ties?"

"Who is gonna give me a hard time?"

"Who is gonna nag at me for being lazy and slacking off?"

He couldn't stop the tears from flowing, and his body was trembling uncontrollably.

His wife was dead, and he was crying.

Even if he was one of the strongest in the country, and was an S-Class Hero, he was just a man who was mourning for his dead wife.

Being strong in the field didn't mean he was strong in his heart.

Because, everyone had a limit, and he had reached his.

"And, who is gonna wake me up in the morning?"

Saying the last line, Divine Slayer's head slumped forward, and he buried his face in his hands.

As his eyes were hidden, his tears stopped flowing, and the only thing that could be heard was his soft sobbing.
