Chereads / Priest, Pray For Us / Chapter 24 - The Dark Road

Chapter 24 - The Dark Road

After finishing the nearby investigations in the surroundings, what Anton wanted to look for was something striking, like an evil aura or something that only the Exorcists could notice, but he found nothing.

He had gained many points by going through two exorcisms in a row. In addition to adding up his earned points, his next attributes were now in very good condition.

According to the average of ordinary people, Anton was now at least four times stronger than a physically fit adult. He was ten times stronger against spiritual attacks and had plenty of faith to eliminate truly powerful spirits.

As before, Anton continued to minimize losses in each of his jobs to have enough faith in case he encountered a truly powerful evil spirit that required at least ten thousand faith points to eliminate. Though he didn't consider himself invincible, he did feel confident in his abilities due to his extensive possibilities when facing evil.

Knowing that he was getting stronger every time, he was at least reassured about the physical aspect improving automatically without the need for constant training.

"We should have brought night vision goggles if we planned to be out at night on these roads," Rafael said, looking ahead at the lonely space.

Anton said nothing; he wanted to see these roads at night and find out exactly what was happening in this place. Attacks often happened at night, so, like any investigator, he wanted to be attacked at night, and that's why he was here.

"We have flashlights and our own confidence; what more do we need?" Anton smiled slightly, but knowing they had been driving for over three hours, he thought it was time to return.

As he had thought before, there was nothing supernatural in this case, so he would categorize it directly under the jurisdiction of the police department and forget about it completely.

But at that moment, a light moved rapidly on the road under the absolute darkness, and Rafael slowed down until he stopped at the edge of a mountain.

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

Rafael had stopped because he heard a series of loud cries that seemed very anxious.

"What's going on?" Rafael looked in the rearview mirror to see what it was.

Through the rear corners of the car, Rafael saw two people: a man who seemed to have a wound on his leg and a woman who was helping him walk quickly along the edge of the road. Their faces were full of panic—very scared, to say the least.

"Hey!"

Anton looked at Rafael and said as he took out his rifle while reloading it, "Looks like we got lucky; get ready and check the surroundings."

"Yes, you should be alert too." Rafael said while reloading the shotgun in his hands.

In the distance, when they saw the large truck stopping, they seemed surprised and ran anxiously along the edge of the road towards the truck.

When their figures appeared in Anton's field of view, he could see that both seemed injured, so he immediately disengaged the safety on his rifle.

"Both are injured and seem to be escaping from something. Check the surroundings and see if this is an ambush." Anton said this before deciding to get out of the truck.

As soon as he got out, his figure, covered with a hat and a black trench coat, appeared in the middle of the road. His figure came into view for the other people.

"Hey, mister!" As a man, Chris could tell that Anton's attire placed him in the upper class, so, being quite skilled among businessmen, he wanted to have the word.

But at that moment, Chris and the woman named Jessie were terrified when they saw that man in the distance holding a long rifle that blended with the darkness around him.

At that moment, another man came out of the driver's seat and shouted, "Both of you, don't move from where you are!"

Seeing both of them vigilant, Jessie, who heard this, and Chris, who had been injured, could only stop for fear of being shot.

"Hey, we're not bad people; a group of lunatics is following us to kill us." Looking at both conscious men, Jessie tried to explain aloud. Her tone was anxious, and it was evident that she was crying.

"They're still chasing us! Please save us!" Jessie kept shouting, but the more she did, the more anxious her tone became. She was afraid that those deformed people had heard her, so her time was running out.

"Please save us, please!" In addition to Jessie, Chris, who was injured in one foot, seemed unwilling to distance himself from the idea that they could be saved.

"We have money; our family has money; as long as you can save us, we'll give you a lot of money. Do you hear me? We'll give you a lot of money."

"Look through the forest, check that this is not an ambush, and shoot anything that moves without thinking twice." Anton said as he looked at Jessie and Chris, who were trembling slightly.

Rafael looked around and said, "It seems they're not lying."

"Yes, but that doesn't bother me..." Anton murmured as he looked into the distance and around every now and then. "Alright, come closer!"

After confirming that these two people were not lying and that they were normal human beings, Anton lowered his rifle and waved his hand for the two people to come closer.

Hearing those words, Jessie and Chris, who were stunned for a moment, quickly ran towards the truck where Anton was.

Looking around, Anton wanted to imagine what kind of situation he was in.

On this trail, there was a huge forest and many mountains. Therefore, in the dark night, all this terrain was much more terrifying. Except for the large lights of the truck, everything around them was dark. Not only could they not see human figures, but identifying a sound was very complicated.

"If there really is a group of killers in this place, I can't imagine how these two people have managed to escape while being chased... Will the killers be related to the topic we are investigating?" While thinking about this, Anton, in a state of alert, approached both fleeing figures.

"Sorry for not bringing the truck closer; I never thought of moving." Anton was sometimes very straightforward, which most of the time angered people.

"Eh, that doesn't matter; we're grateful that you stopped." Chris said, forcing a smile.

Although Chris didn't understand the meaning of Anton's words, he was surprised to see that he was actually a priest.

"Will you get in now?" Anton asked, opening the back door of the truck.

"Yes, thank you very much." Jessie immediately thanked Anton for being so generous. She hadn't noticed that he was a priest, but she was still infinitely grateful.
