As Soe called all of his raiders back to their ships, a heartbroken Margit rushed to her brother's side. Her voice echoed throughout the port as her cries pierced Dawn's heart. Dawn's gaze did not leave the sight of the siblings, inseparable at the death of the other. Dawn tried to comprehend what he had just seen, what he was feeling, but everything had happened so fast. Too fast. First Dusan, and now Rhys. Why? Why was he the one who had to go through this? Why was it Margit who had to deal with the loss of a brother? Why was it his group of friends that had to lose a member? All Dawn wanted was to get revenge on the group of people who murdered his parents. He never wished anyone else to die for him and his foolish desires. Why wasn't it him who had been killed?
As Dawn continued to break down, Soe approached him. Soe not only looked down upon Dawn, but he greeted Dawn with a slap across the face. As Soe's hand connected, Dawn's face jerked to the side. Dawn did not look back at Soe, too caught up in his own thoughts to give a shit that the man who murdered his best friend was right in front of him. Soe took his hand, grabbing hold of Dawn's jaw, redirecting his gaze at himself.
Soe: "You know, Carter." He squatted down in front of the boy whose life he had just ruined. "It was simpleminded to come here today. You knew that you could lose, and you did. You led your friends to their death, Carter. How does that make you feel?"
Dawn stared at Soe, but his mind did not register anything the man was saying. All he could think was that Rhys and Dusan were dead now, and it was his fault. Soe was right. It was his fault that his best friend was dead, and that Dusan was dead. He did not know the current status of Warin and Elias, but he could not help but think they could be dead too. He knew Margit was alive, but what if she was injured? What if she was going to die too?
Soe: "Got nothing to say?" He grabbed a clump of Dawn's hair, pulling his head back. "Listen to me carefully, do not ever start a fight that you are not confident in winning. You were wrong to test my strength, and you are so damn lucky that I am going to spare your life because I want you to live with the fact that you made the decision to come here today." He let go of Dawn's hair before standing. "I hope I never see you again, you make me sick." Soe then started to walk back to one of the ships.
Dawn had made sense of what Soe said, but he did not care. Nothing mattered to him at that moment. Rhys was dead. Dusan was dead. His parents were dead. His sister was probably dead. Everything was hopeless. His view of Margit mourning her brother was something he could not avert his eyes from. He knew how she felt. What it was like to lose a family member. He wanted to stop crying, but the tears kept flowing like a river after fresh rainfall.
Dawn: What am I doing.. I'm supposed to be strong, but I can't even manage that right now. Was this really my fault? Soe said it was. Was Soe lying? Of course he was, why would it be my fault? What- Dawn looked up. He hadn't realized that Margit had walked over to him.
She simply held her hand out to him, just as Rhys had done. Dawn took it, allowing her to help him up from off the ground. They both stared at each other, clearly unable to comprehend their situation. As they looked at each other, they could hear the engines rumbling from the two supply ships as their engines fired up. Kowai was escaping, but they didn't care. At least not right now. The tears falling out of Margit's eyes made Dawn want to murder Soe endlessly. The tears that grieved for his best friend. The tears that desperately pleaded for her brother to come back.
Margit: "E-" her voice choked up, cutting her off. "Elias.." she said as her tears became heavier.
Dawn's heart sank as he slowly turned his head in Elias' direction. He saw Warin draped over Elias' body, and as Dawn's eyes widened, he saw the pool of blood gathering underneath his friend.
Dawn: Why… Why was this happening? Is this hell..? Dawn stood, questioning everything. His mind was aloof as his feet started to move on their own, stepping out to Elias and Warin.
Once Dawn made it to the two, he studied what his eyes were presenting to him. Warin was huddled over Elias, quietly, but the tear drops stained on Elias' shirt spoke more words than Warin would ever need to say.
Warin: "He's dead.." he said as his voice cracked, "but he died knowing his father was innocent. Even though he was a terrible person, Elias died with closure.." Tears started to fall onto the already damp spot on Elias' shirt.
Dawn: "I see.." after speaking, he turned his head in Margit's direction. She had moved Dusan's body next to where Rhys' was. "Let's take him over to the others." He said, the presence of pain scraped against his throat.
Warin gave a nod as he picked up Elias' body, and walked with Dawn over to the others.
Warin stood next to Dawn, who stood between him and Margit. The three looked at their friends, no, their family, as the two supply ships in the background began to take off. The roaring sound of engines and rattling earth beneath their feet numbed their bodies. The orange energy flaring from the rocket thrusters glazed the landscape as if they were flames from the depths of hell. Hell. That's what this was. To Dawn, Warin, and Margit, this was hell.
Warin: "Was this worth it?" He managed to ask the one question that was eating away at his mind. His thoughts were those of sadness, uncertainty, and anger. Sad that his friends were dead, and uncertain of why this happened to him of all people. His anger was because of the group's decision to come. He knew that something bad would happen, that somebody would end up getting hurt, so why did they come? The question coming from Warin was received by Dawn and Margit, but got a response from neither of them. He had expected that.
Margit: "Hey Dawn.."
Dawn: "Yes?"
Margit: "Whenever you see a firework, I want you to think about me-"
Her words were then shut out by the explosion of noise coming from the supply ships as they left the premise of the supply port. Kowai was gone. Although Elias and Warin managed to kill some of the weaker opponents, Soe had escaped. Gento and Galindo were recovered by Soe on his way out, and all of the remaining members packed into the ships. The group did not finish their mission, and their failure was abysmal.
