Tuesday Morning, after the events of the supply port
Dawn and Warin stood in a field a few minutes outside of Camcourt, early in the morning, the Sun's golden rays casting down on them. In front of them laid four graves, one for each of their friends who they lost the morning prior. During the previous night, Dawn and Warin snuck Margit's body outside and buried her next to her brother. Neither Dawn or Warin were thinking straight as they were both still in emotional shock. Both of them were dirty with dried blood and tear stains riddled across both of their bodies and clothing, and they were both exhausted as they had not slept. How could they manage to fall asleep after something like this?
On top of everything that had happened, Dawn felt responsible, regardless of what Margit's letter said. He blamed himself for her suicide, and the death of his friends. Of course he now knew who ordered his parents to be murdered, and had the gift of knowing that the man was dead, but he was even more lost than he was before. What was wrong with his white hair, and why did they have to take his sister? Gento mentioned a Sentinel, and in the moment Dawn overlooked it, but after giving it some thought he realized that he had no idea what that meant.
Warin: "Dawn?" Warin questioned, looking at Dawn.
Dawn was so caught up in his own thought process that he did not realize he had started to cry again, although they were silent tears. The salty liquid washing away the previous tear stains just to replace them again.
Warin: "What is on your mind?"
Dawn looked at Warin for a moment before answering: "I did not mean for this to happen, I-" He choked on his words while his vision started to blur as more tears developed.
Warin shook his head: "I know. Although I had a feeling someone would get hurt, I never expected something like this to happen. I know you didn't either." He directed his gaze towards the sunrise, his golden blonde hair radiating in the light.
Dawn: "You don't resent me for this?" He asked, confused.
Warin: "Why would I? It's not like you were the one who killed them." He snickered.
Dawn stared at Warin, not understanding why Warin seemed to be taking everything in so well. He knew this had messed with Warren's mind, so why wasn't he showing it?
Dawn: "What are you thinking about, Warin?"
Warin placed his right hand on the back of his head: "You know, out of everyone in the group my life was the most normal." He took a deep breath. "My parents are still alive like Rhys and Margit's are, but I haven't ever had any problems with myself like they did."
Dawn: "What do you mean exactly.." His eyebrows furrowed.
Warin: "I mean that my life has been perfectly normal until now, and you.." he paused for a moment, "..you've had it worse than any of us. So why am I alive?" He began to smile while gazing at the sun as it emerged from the vast plains beyond the graves. "The gods gave you and I a second chance at life, Dawn. We are alive right now for different reasons. You need to find your sister, and I… Well, I have to figure out what I am supposed to do. I basically threw away my chances of graduating on time by coming here, so I will have to repeat a grade." He sighed. "That is gonna suck."
Dawn: "What are you trying to say, Warin?" His hands started to fidget, as he felt Warin was about to say something he didn't want to hear.
Warin: "You and I have different paths we need to follow. Your Dad wished for you to become someone, while my Dad has never placed such a responsibility on me. You are strong, and I am weak. Use your strength to find Imogene, and I will turn my weakness into something. Granted I don't know what that something will be yet, but I'll figure it out." He chuckled before looking back at Dawn. "Leave this planet, Dawn."
Dawn stared at Warin as his heart sank. It was clear to him that Warin did not intend to join him.
Dawn: "Are you going back to Solart?"
Warin gave him a nod: "That's the only thing I can do for myself at the moment. I need to graduate, because without that I have no future."
Dawn: "If you come with me you-"
Warin: "No, Dawn." His smile faded. "You do not need to graduate in order to have a future because your future is already clear. You don't need a plaque telling you that you are worth something." His eyes started to tear up. "You already are worth something."
Dawn was taken back by his words, not knowing how to respond.
Warin: "You can fight with your hands and a blade. You have motivation, motivation that I couldn't even hope to have right now. You are smart, I know that Rhys had to overwork himself to keep up with you. I am nowhere near you in terms of being something, Dawn!" He shouted as the tears streamed down his face, his bright blue eyes glistening behind them.
The two just stared at each other for a moment before Warin broke the silence.
Warin: "I'm sorry for raising my voice." He said as he wiped the tears from his eyes. "All I'm trying to say is that you have a future, so it would be unfortunate if you didn't at least try to go after it. I'm only going to hold you back, Solart is only going to hold you back. Leave the confines of Somniet, and do what I can only dream of doing.." Warin paused, directing his eyes at the four graves, "..What they never got to do."
Dawn: "I will." He stated. "I will do it for all of you."
Warin: "Not just us. Do it for yourself too." He closed the gap between them. "Don't come back to Solart until you have some amazing story of your adventures or something." He laughed.
Dawn nodded, laughing with him.
Dawn: "Sure." He stated. It was simple, but it was what Warin needed to hear.
Warin looked at the four graves one more time before facing Dawn again.
Warin: "I'll be seeing you, Dawn." He said as he walked past his friend, heading in the direction of the path back to Solart City.
Dawn did not respond, instead he just watched Warin walk away. His figure casting an amplified shadow across the landscape due to the sun. He knew that if he genuinely did leave Somniet that he probably would not see Warin again for a long time.
After Warin's figure had gotten far off enough that it was too hard to see, Dawn directed his gaze back at the sunrise, the full image of the sun almost completely unveiled. He was still confused, and lacked motivation to do anything. Warin told him his motivation was admirable, but he had none. His drive came from his friends, and now they were gone. Dawn started to get lost in thought about how he would make it off of Somniet before a voice interrupted his thinking.
???: "Did your friend leave?"
Dawn quickly turned around to look at who was speaking to him. His initial thought was a resident of Camcourt, but instead his vision was met with a female wrapped in a cloak. A Kowai cloak.
