Chapter 12 - The wonders of Shapeshift magic part 1

"It's time to hunt."

He walked through bushes and trees trying to find a beast large enough to satiate his hunger and after walking for over a mile, he spotted a large thick herbivorous beast gnawing on a thorny bush.

The long thorns of the bush couldn't deter the beast as its large teeth clamped down on it.

It was about three feet tall, and as wide as five men in a row. It had two large curved horns jutting from its massive head. A white beard drooped from its lower jaw, its eyes were a crimson red signifying a high vitality within it and it had a long thin tail that writhed about a strangely.

Tiagon raised his right hand and initiated a spell, large flakes of ice materialized behind him and from them, massive spikes of ice grew.

The beast suddenly turned to Tiagon, it had smelt the magic. Instantly, he released the barrage of heavy ice spikes at the creature.

The beast wasn't having it however, as the spikes approached, the beast let out a loud cry releasing a powerful sonic wave that blew apart the ice spell.

Even Tiagon had to protect himself from it creating his recently learnt magic shield around him. The plants and trees beside him blew to nothing.

The creature finished its cry and saw that Taigon was still in his place unmoved. It opened its mouth to blow another.

"No you are not."

He shot forward his hand and a powerful gale of wind erupted from it and struck the beast on its mouth, it stumbled back a little and released its cry at the large boulder nearby totally decimating it.

Tiagon followed up, he struck forward his hands multiple times swiftly releasing heavy blows and blows of wind on the creature. He then pulled up a portion of the ground in front of him and sent it crashing into the beast rendering it unconscious.

A few minutes later….

A pile of the beast's hair remained at the distance away from Tiagon as he cooked the beast with a little flame.

Two stands held up the beast hung across a pole as it got roasted. Tiagon stood occasionally to turn its body and also to take bites. He could consume it raw and be satisfied but he had grown up with a woman that loved cooking and so did he although mildly.

He continued his study of the shapeshift grimoire. He got up once again to try out another mimic.

He closed his eyes and visualized once again.

'Large purple tentacles and multiple suckers'

Some seconds later, all of his limbs became writhing large tentacles and he couldn't maintain his balance so he fell.

He struggled, shaking his tentacle limbs about in a bid to get up but alas he couldn't. However, he compromised and returned his legs to normal.

With some struggle, he pushed himself upwards with the right tentacle and stood, he almost tipped over but he halted and made the tentacles much smaller giving himself control of his body once again.

He lung his right tentacle at a tree and quickly enlarged it as it swung striking powerfully at the tree falling it.

'I suppose my tentacles are just as durable as my arms.'

"Hmmm."

He looked above at the sunny sky, he swung his tentacles to his sides and they swiftly morphed into powerful large wings adorned with a multitude of white feathers.

He flapped his wings and took for the skies.

VOOM VOOOMM

It was a whole new feeling, totally different from flying with wind magic.

"Wooohoo!" He cried in excitement as he beat through the clouds.

After a couple of flaps and cries, he returned to his spot on the ground.

"Ohh, by the realms! I've totally forgotten!" He yelped seeing his catch get burnt at a side, it was a miracle that the entire piece hadn't caught up flames and went up to ashes.

He undid the flame with a snap of his fingers and proceeded to consume the partly overdone and partly underdone piece leaving nothing but the skeleton of the beast.

"Should last for a few days."

He continued consuming the contents of the grimoire, he had just passed through the needless history and he learnt something new, two things actually.

The first was that there is a specialized subset of Shapeshifting magic, one rarely practiced and even sometimes looked down upon in various places and it was given a new name, flesh and bone creation magic. Tiagon had never heard of this type of magic and he was quite intrigued, the book however spoke of nothing more about it, how it's done or where mages of the practice could be found–that was the end of its trail.

The second was that Shapeshifting wasn't exactly restricted to just their bodies, shapeshifting mages could transform the features of organisms and things momentarily and there were some rules that bind them.

A few were; the success of a shapeshifting spell will most likely be probable on an object compared to executing it on a living being as living creatures possess Mana and that mana exerts a resistance and in that rule, only organisms with lesser Mana than the user can be shapeshifted and the chances of it happening successfully wasn't particularly great.

To also execute shapeshifting magic on other objects and creatures, certain glyphs must be drawn on the targets and Mana must be flooded into it, if the Mana finishes, so does the spell.

"The glyphs look like a summoning crest. This shouldn't be too hard."

Tiagon clenched his right fist and struck out the index finger, suddenly his trimmed fingernail elongated into a long ugly sharp claw.

'Chances of success are more probable on objects.'

He picked up a rock by the foot of a tree and drew the glyph on it with the aid of his index finger claw.

He streamed in enough mana and the markings glowed a bright blue in response.

The little rock vibrated on his large palm and then it stopped, it was of silver color and it became a wooden dry brown and then it elongated into a little tree branch.

Tiagon squeezed it, its texture remained the same, it was still as hard as a rock.
