Back at the goblin restaurant…
"That was delicious!" Tiagon exclaimed, three empty wooden plates on his tabl. No one had chosen to sit by him since the violent occurrence. He was satisfied with the meals, his taste buds weren't expectant of the concentrated deliciousness that they held.
He stood up and yelled for the goblin.
"Here!" He placed down a gold coin as an extra tip. Usually, such show-off amongst runts was ill-advised but Tiagon had wafted away their threat by casually beating up three men, who knows what he could do if he tried and in open space, the adventurers didn't want to find out.
"Thank you." The goblin attendant said. Tiagon was at the door and he simply raised his right hand in response.
He got to the streets and embarked on his journey to the library. As he did, he received glances from both men and women, inviting glances.
Two women even stopped him to converse a little but Tiagon simply declined.
"He's such a handsome man and with such noble mannerisms."
"He mustn't be of low born"
Tiagon arrived at the grandiose-looking library. He spotted the young librarian by a desk, her eyes glued on him.
He walked in between shelves and got to the history section, there, he picked up a large book with a green cover that on it was written " The History of Minastoma."
He took it to a table and began devouring its content. He wanted to know what happened to Zan and the important events since his slumber.
"The hero Zan died peacefully in the capital in the middle of his family, friends and nobles. His contribution to the empire will not be forgotten."
Tiagon learnt that Minastoma happened to be yet just another large city in the empire that spanned from the ocean from the West down to an end of the continent, it was larger than the lands he had ruled.
"Impressive."
There weren't details of the kings and their families but a thing was constant, the king's name had been unchanging meaning he was most likely of a race with a long lifespan. The book did tell about how powerful they were and how they absorbed factions of the human, elven, demon races and other minorities.
It also spoke a little of the government. Although the king had absolute power with total immunity, most of the decision making up top was done by a council of leaders chosen by the people.
"Interesting."
The book delved into professions, and new sports–relatively new. It also shared testaments of people of different races happy with their new lives and supportive of the king and the council.
A couple of minutes later, he was finished, and an unsatisfied feeling remained in him. He couldn't tell what it was however.
He left the library and was intending to rest at an inn when he spotted an impressive building that was the adventurer's guild.
Tiagon loved going on adventures when he was little and if it wasn't that he had to command people, he would have also gone for adventures in his later days. He smirked, this was an opportunity to enjoy old things again.
He walked inside, it was scanty with a number of adventurers sitting around. Tiagon spotted the receptionist by a counter, and he approached.
"Good afternoon." Said the receptionist.
"I'll take the most dangerous quest available."
The male receptionist in a formal suit outfit simply looked at the overconfident man with an unconcerned expression.
"You'll have to register and be assessed to determine what level you belong to. To register, a deposit of 1 gold and 3 silvers must be made."
Tiagon dropped two gold coins on the table
"They are not exactly from here but they'll do right?"
"Right." The receptionist answered observing the gold coins.
"Unfortunately, we can't impose our monetary value on foreign currencies so your change will have to wait." He said with a sophisticated poise.
'That's a lie, a terrible one but it was well delivered.'
"Keep the change."
The receptionist nodded in affirmation and then brought an orb out of a drawer in the desk. The orb was red and in it, a white cloud drifted.
"What's your name?"
Tiagon paused, he knew he mustn't use his real name lest some special people look into him, so he had to go with an alias.
"Clyde, just Clyde. I have abandoned my last name." He announced with his hands crossed.
"Sir Clyde, place your hand here and try to concentrate as much Mana on your hand as much as you can, do not activate a spell."
Tiagon nodded and placed his right hand on the orb, he remained still and channeled the Mana from within onto his hand. He however, greatly reduced the amount.
The orb glowed brighter and brighter until it became an orb of bright white light.
"Oh! Impressive." The receptionist uttered.
The glow caught the attention of the adventurers nearby, all staring at Tiagon.
"An A-class adventurer of powerful magic." The receptionist announced, Tiagon smiled lightly.
"You know some magic spells, don't you?"
"I do."
"That's great, all you need now is some experience. Although adventurers of your rank are allowed to take the most difficult quest we have available now, it's advisable for you to go with a party, especially if you're a newbie."
"Oh don't worry about it, I have some experience." Tiagon replied.
The receptionist then brought forward a brown parchment of the quest, on it was a drawing of a great basilisk capable of earth magic and the reward for defeating it and that was 3 Alvarian gold coins.
Tiagon collected the parchment and headed for outside when a group of adventurers stopped in front of him.
They were young, in their early twenties just like he was but nowhere as powerful.
"We are team Crimson Feathers. Nice to meet you." The only lady of the three said and came forward at Tiagon with her hand stretched for a handshake.
"I am Clyde." Tiagon returned the gesture and took her hand.
