Chapter 18 - The Basilisk in the cave

The light emanated from the flame was cast about on the walls of the cavern and a sleeping beast.

Its beautiful green scales gleamed against the orange light, bone spikes protruded from its back in a line atop its spine. It was massive, so much so. It was about twelve meters wide and twenty meters long and it blocked the path further inside, tucking uncomfortably between it.

Elda opened her mouth for a silent gasp and then held her hands against it.

Tom and Rink shivered in fear, their wands held to their chest.

Tiagon held up his hand, Mana surged from his body and the Basilisk smelt it and opened its yellow slit eyes.

"Ahh!" Elda screamed.

"Use protection spells on yourselves!" Tiagon yelled.

Protection spells were magic spells that honed the Mana in one's body momentarily and also stimulated the reinforcement of one's body with atmospheric mana generating a resistance towards offensive magic, curses and spells against the spirit/soul.

Tiagon however needed no such spell, at least against the reptilian snake dragon petrifying gaze directed at him. His astronomical amount of Mana and Mana control provided him with enough resistance against such magic.

Elda held out her wand and her free arm and recited an incantation swiftly so did the two men. A golden light shone after the end of the incantation indicating that it had been activated.

"Such potent Mana." Eda commented, the Basilisk radiated Mana much more than the four of them combined, a concentration of Mana was particular in its yellow eyes.

Tiagon released the lightning bolt and it seared through the little air present in the cave.

The Basilisk raised itself on two legs and absorbed the magical attack on its less scaly abdomen. The lightning dissipated upon contact.

"Hmmm?"

"RAHHHHHHH!" The monster roared causing the cavern to shake and breaking the stalactites off the roof.

"Magic shield!" Elda yelled conjuring up a cap of blue shield of condensed mana over the team.

The Basilisk proceeded to stomp the ground with its right front leg. A resounding vibration shook the cavern and more pointy rocks fell from above.

The stomp initiated powerful large jutting of rocks that traveled from its contact right before the crew.

Tiagon furrowed his brows as the feeling of regret began to surface, he shouldn't have brought the Crimson Feathers. Fighting the Basilisk without undoing his constant shapeshifting spell would be difficult.

He struck forward his hands, Mana condensed many times over in front of his palm at instantaneous speed accompanied by a fervent yellow-blue glow.

"Nue fest!"

The super-condensed mana streamed forward at high speed and broke through the approaching rocks with ease causing debris to fly.

The Basilisk saw the approaching blast and counteracted it with its own. It opened its mouth and released a blast of fire at the spell.

The attacks collided releasing a powerful shockwave. The cavern rumbled, and cracks appeared on the roof, it seemed like it'd fall over when pillars of rock struck up against the roof holding it back up, they were conjured up by both Rink and Tom.

When the wave cleared, the Basilisk shot forward crossing the hundred meters between it and Tiagon, it swiped down its clawed paw.

Like an apparition, its paw went through the man.

Orbs of lightning hovered about Elda, she commanded them forward and they sparkled with energy hiting the target's face blinding it momentarily.

Rink and Tom thrust both their wands in unison and the Earth heeded their calling sending towering pillars that struck the abdomen of the Basilisk pushing it over.

At that moment, Taigon appeared at its lowered neck that had now been exposed as it fell. With lightning equipped in his hand, he drove forward a jab that sunk in the Basilisk's neck.

BOOM

It fell and struck the ground causing yet another quake, it thrashed around swinging Tiagon off from it.

"Eda, the cave is going to fall. We have to leave!" Rink yelled, the cracks up above had begun to spread.

"We can't hold it anymore."

Both Rink and Tom's faces contorted as they struggled to hold the falling cavern. The roof was crumbling and so were their supporting pillars.

"Eda!" Rink yelled again.

"Clyde, we have to leave?!" She yelled at Tiagon who had just begun to stand back up seemingly unaware of the commotion around him.

Tom grabbed Eda and a slide of the Earth drove them out of the cavern.

BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM

The roof of the cavern fell in.

"Levitation." Tom uttered, little Elda in his hands.

"He's dead." She muttered softly, sadness present in her voice.

The two men remained hovering just outside the cave.

"RAHHHHHHH!"

The great roar sounded against, the fallen rocks that blocked the cavern busted open, and out came Tiagon, his clothes partly burnt and torn.

The massive Basilisk broke out of the cavern like a new butterfly breaking out its cocoon. It opened its large maw releasing a torrent of powerful hot flame onto the man above them.

He swung down his hand in a chop releasing a wind slash that cut easily through the flame blast drifting the halves of flame apart and the wind swept them away.

The monster released another torrent of flame with a barrage of rocks from the mountain.

Tiagon materialized a large shield protecting him from the attacks.

SKKZZZ SKKKZZZZ

Multiple bolts of lightning struck the jaw of the Basilisk from below and it was from none other than the crimson feathers.

"You ugly beast die!" Rink yelled as he continued to rain blue lightning on the monster. It wailed in pain as its mouth and neck were struck with zapping heat.

It halted the attack against Tiagon and stomped the ground again.

Rock formations grew from below at the side where the team hovered, rocks flew at them.

Elda like a swan danced through the rocks dodging all of them. Tom and Rink blew them apart with a wind spell. When the scene was clear, Elda initiated a spell.

She thrust forward her wand at the Basilisk, rocks formed into massive fists in response to her mana and flew at the beast.

Tiagon broke through the barrage of rocks and thrust forward his hand and materialized a large flaming arrow on his hands. He pulled it back and released the large piercing flame.

Their attacks struck the lizard simultaneously releasing a powerful explosion that clouded parts of the beast.
