Chapter 20 - Ordinary day

Solanne and Yael's journey on their way back home was quiet. They didn't talk to each other and the only thing they could hear was the sound of insects coming from the forest and the sound of their feet walking on the ground.

Both of them were preoccupied by their own thoughts and that the silence was comforting enough to let them think.

Right after a long walk, Solanne headed straight to the kitchen and asked, "Do you want to eat something?"

Yael sighed as he shook his head. "I don't feel like it. Thanks." Without even looking back, he headed to his room. Solanne watched him walked down stairs before opening the fridge.

She stared at the long selection of food before deciding to make some coffee for herself. After making the coffee, she sat down on the sofa. She heaved her breath, trying to understand what was the dream all about.

For her, that dream doesn't even make any sense. Solanne felt like she will be dragged on an endless loop if the train hadn't arrived.

What was the purpose of all of that? Wasn't that dream too extravagant? There were any things that were out of place. Or was she just thinking of that?

Dreams can be absurd and most of them don't make sense, yet, she knows there were something more.

Solanne sipped her coffee as she can't help but morn for the child. It was a cycle. An endless one and there are people who knew how will the child end up, on the back of her mind, the memories she had on that dream, knew how the child will end up to begin with.

Yet, they were restricted from the very beginning. For what?

Are these dreams made for them to solve? Or these were just there for them to see. Solanne could feel the restriction. These worlds, are they just really dreams?

In the end, Solanne had given up thinking and finished her coffee. She then headed upstairs to sleep. Right as soon as entered, she saw the two cats laying there their belly showing. They were in the middle and was already taking too much space.

Solanne's heart soften. Well, how will she sleep now?

--

In the morning, Solanne was the first one to woke up. Not because she slept early but the cats were hungry and they were trying to wake her up. Her hair was still a mess as, and she didn't even bother washing her face as she headed down while the cats enthusiastically followed her.

She laughed as she prepared their food.

Right as soon as she was done with that, she made herself a coffee again. Feeling like all of her energy was drained from her body, she headed to the sofa and flopped there while the water was boiling.

She doesn't know what time it was now and she forgot her phone upstairs yet, she was too lazy to even get up. She felt like all of her bones were made of jelly.

So, she just laid there, eyes wide opened looking at the TV. She doesn't know how long she was in that position, when she heard Yael's door opened.

Grabbing the opportunity, she yelled, "Yael! Favor! Can you grab my phone on my bed? I'm to lazy to get up."

"…."

"Good morning to you too." He said, sounded annoyed.

"Please!" Solanne chuckled stretching her limbs. Her ears twitched the moment she heard the sound of the door. She smiled. A few minutes later, Yael was walking down the stairs, and he was holding two phones.

One was his and the others was hers. "I've been minding to tell you this but," Yael handed Solanne's phone to her. Her eyes were wide curious waiting for Yael's next words.

He eyed her phone case. "What's with your disgusting taste for your phone case?"

"Huh?" Solanne rolled her eyes. She glanced at her phone before saying, "It's cute! Can't you see the cat print! My phone has personality in it while yours are just too bland. Too general. Just a plain black one."

Yael scoffed as he headed to the kitchen. "It's what you called elegance."

Solanne just rolled her eyes. "Whatever."

"Have you eaten?"

Solanne shook her head. "No. too lazy to even make coffee. I feel like I'm being too much dependent on caffeine lately. Is this the side effects?"

Yael ignored Solanne's words as he made his coffee. Solanne on the other hand, scrolled through her phone and in the end, she decided to continue what she was reading the other day. She was already in chapter 300, so it's still a long way.

"Here," Yael put down a steaming hot coffee on the table and sat next to the sofa. Solanne looked at the coffee. "Don't tell me, you have a fever?" She teased grabbing the coffee and taking a sip from it. Solanne smiled, it's just right for her taste.

"Just shut up," he grumbled, grabbing the remote and moving from channel to channel to find a suitable one to play.

Solanne stared at him for a minute before focusing back on her phone. She guessed that both of them were still not ready to talk about what had happened yesterday.

And she's okay with that.

Their whole morning was spent just like that.

--

Lunch arrived, and Solanne was already in the kitchen preparing some food. Yael on the other hand, was outside, enjoying the air and the hammock.

Right as Solanne was finished cooking, Yael headed straight to the kitchen and sat on the kitchen stool.

"Is there something?" She asked. Her back was facing him.

"About last night," She put down the bowl she was holding and face him. "I thought you don't want to talk about it." Solanne has this teasing grin plastered on her lips.

He rolled his eyes. "I'm just gathering my thoughts. That dream felt so abnormal I don't even understand. Besides that, where were you?" He accused. Solanne raised her right brow. "I'm the one who's supposed to say that. I waited for you!"

"…"

A paused. Silence enveloped the kitchen. They stared back at each other.

"So, we were separated?" Yael asked back. "For what reason?"

Solanne transferred some food on the bowl and put it on the kitchen counter. "I don't know. That dream doesn't even make any sense. Wait," She turned around and looked at Yael once again. "What was your dream?"

Yael sighed. "I'm confused too. I feel so detach to that place and at the same time, I feel like I was only a spectator on that place. I was guiding a child,"

"Me too!" Solanne countered back.

"Can't you just not cut me off?"

Solanne smiled apologetically. "Sorry."

"The instructions on my pamphlet told me to guide the child to his dream. It was vague. Everything was and I don't get it. I feel like I was following a path and the child was following me. I guided him to his destination, yet, as I watched him, he had destroyed himself."

Solanne blinked back. She swallowed. "I had something different."

"You mean?"

"I was restricted. I wasn't allowed to lead the child and just let the child be. In the end, she didn't receive or found any dream and that she has destroyed herself. Her emotions, and every word she uttered felt like its haunting me yet at the same time, I thought it has nothing to do with me. It was just a dream. I feel like I was stuck in an endless time loop if the train hadn't arrived. In the end, the child had become me."

There was silence between them before Yael finally had the courage to ask, "Those dreams, what's their meaning? Are supposed to overthink it? Why are we experiencing this in the first place? Are we being punished? Cursed? For what? I do not know. This all doesn't make sense."

Yael looked so frustrated that he grabbed his forked and stab a piece of meat and eat it.

Solanne blinked as she was speechless by his actions.

"Let's think this calmly, shall we?" She went ahead and prepare the table before sitting down. She admit that she was not this calm before but looking at Yael, Solanne felt like she needed to step up because she's the older one.

"I feel like we shouldn't over think things. If the mastermind behind this wanted us to save those worlds, then, he would force us to do so. What I think, in my opinion is that, he, they wanted us to show something. I don't understand what it is, but perhaps that's the case."

"Are we supposed to have some kind of character development?" Yael mocked as he put some rice on his plate.

Solanne laughed. "Perhaps? Besides, we can't escape it. We're in this cabin. There's the pandemic. There's no transportation. What we could only do is wait."

Yael sighed turning his back as he grabbed the remote. "Are there any shows you wanted to see?"
