Chapter 5 - Something Different This Way comes part 1

The sun was almost gone when Aven made it back to the tree line, time would soon run out to get everything done that he would need for the journey.

'Ok, time to get back to my catch and find a place to camp for the night.'

He headed back to the hiding spot of his catch. 'I hope no body found it; I'm going to need the meat for the journey to come.'

Soon he arrived at his hiding spot and looked up, his catch was still there in the trees, Aven smiled as he looked up at it.

'Well, that's something good at least, I don't know exactly how this trip will work but if I have cooked this meat up in advance at least I won't starve.'

He started to lower his catch down and then gathered up all the supplies. He put his catch on his shoulders and headed further into the forest.

After a short walk Aven came to a small clearing.

'Here will do for tonight, I shouldn't go to far as I will have to head back to the village early tomorrow.'

After placing the Elfield carcass down, Aven searched around for some fallen branches to start a fire.

He checked for a few minutes' walking around the clearing when he felt that he had enough, he placed the branches and twigs down in the middle of the clearing and created a fire pit.

'Alright now the fires sorted it time to skin the carcass.'

Aven reached down towards his lower back and remover the dagger, that he kept for hunting and moves over to the carcass.

Aven spent the time methodically skinning and butchering the carcass, it was already dark by the time that he finished, and he settled down to start cooking.

'I need to get as much cooked as I can, I not sure how this journey will go and don't know when I will have the chance to cook again.'

Aven set the meat up around the fire on different stone and sticks, it would take longer to cook this way but at least he would be able too hopeful get more cooked before leaving.

'The time that I spent in the library wasn't a complete waste even though the encyclopaedia didn't have my talent documented in it, it at least gave me a few ideas into what I could potentially be able to do.'

Aven reach out and rotated the meats and arranged a few of the cooked slices for himself to eat for dinner.

'The beginner's guide said that to use one's talent depended greatly on whether it was an active or passive talent.'

Aven closed his eye and let his senses spread around him.

'I don't know which category mine actually belongs to so all I can do is experiment.'

Aven centred himself and tried to get a feel for what was happening inside himself.

'It said that meditation was a good way to access and train your talent, this at least I have some experience with after all father trained me to use my sense through meditation as a basis. Hopefully that will give me a start point.'

As the night past Aven remained seated in silence with his eyes closed. He could feel a shift within himself.

'I can feel something shifting, it's like an extra power that's just out of reach. Hopefully soon I will be able to get more of a feel of what I can do with my talent.'

Eventually all of the meat was cooked and Aven had packed the food away. He stored it inside his pack using the hides of the carcasses from previous catches to keep the meat covered.

After making sure that the camp site was clear and the remaining parts of the carcass that he cannot do anything with, were a safe distance away from the clearing.

Aven climbed up into the trees but this time he also secured his pack to the branches as well.

'I wonder what tomorrow will bring?' He closed his eyes and allowed himself to drift off to sleep.
