Chapter 10 - Where are the Malikia Part 1

The sun was high in the sky, gathered in the Village Town Hut where Chief Dean, Joseph, Damian, Jonathan and Sabrina.

"We can't ignore the coming danger," said Jonanthan.

"There is only so much that we can do at this time they haven't travelled as far as we thought that they would early today" Sabrina said as she leaned back in her seat.

"I will send a message through to Ritrove Cove and they will get in touch with the King, but even so I don't know how long that will take" Damian exclaimed as he created a raven for the red swirling magic, he moved over to the side to prepare his message.

"No matter what, we will still have to head out soon but at least we can delay for a short while, but I would prefer not to be travelling at night with the young ones, after all most will be completely useless at the minute." Joseph mention as he looked back into the room from the window.

They stayed in silence for a while as they waited for Damian to finish his message and send his raven on its way.

Even though it was a fast method of communication, over great distances it was unfortunately not an instantaneous method.

"Sorry I took so long" Damian said as his raven flew away and he joined them back at the centre of the room.

"Village Chief Dean" The older man brought his head up, his face showing the worry that he was feeling.

"What can we do? What if there are more of them? Why is this happening?" The village chief started to ramble, getting quieter and quieter as he turned away again.

Joseph sighed as he looked at the man. "Alright I'm going to go into the forest to get a feel of just how much time we have" he thought for a second "I'll take Aven with me I think".

That got the others to look his way.

"Joseph are you sure about that" question Sabrina.

'Seriously the boy already fought once and did well, yet the village chief wouldn't let him in and you think I should just leave him out there alone'.

Joseph raised his brow while looking at Sabrina and she shied away.

"The boy has potentially encountered two of them today, and he was the first to see them." Jonathan mention trying to relieve the tension in the room.

"Not only can he show me where his was when he saw the first one, I want to see what else is out there" he said as he glanced over to the village chief "and as they all said that he actively lives in the forest, who better to inform me of the local area".

The others also starred at the village chief as Joseph talked.

'I still can't believe that he lives in the forest alone, what on earth made them basically kick the boy from the village.'

"Alright Joseph, the rest of us will prepare not only to leave but for the fight that is soon to come." Stated Jonanthan.

With that they all headed out of the hut.

"But will it even be our fight."

Sabrina approached Joseph and touched his shoulder. "We will make sure your group is ready to go and station in the village centre".

"Thanks, I will see you all later." Joseph left them on the street as he headed for the gate.

———————————————————

As Joseph reached the gate, he saw the guards just starring at the carcass of the Malikia, not moving and most definitely not paying attention to the goings on around them.

'I know that this is a creature that they aren't used to dealing with but really.'

He walked through the gate and looked around.

'Now then where has the boy gone.'

The boy Aven wasn't insight from the gate so he checked again using his senses and notice that he had moved away back into the forest.

He headed towards the trees and realized that the boy had headed back into the forest in the opposite direction from where he could sense the creatures were going to come from.

He walked for about 5 minutes before he finally caught up and saw a boy sat by a small fire that had just been made.

"Have you eaten yet Aven" Joseph said as he walked towards the boys back.

As he reached him, he saw that he had caught a cutler hare, the small brown rabbit with its single horn standing out as a stark white.

Aven turned and looked at him.

"Not yet, sir".

After he finished speaking, he finished skinning the hare.

Aven looked up from his work as Joseph sat down opposite him around the fire. Placing the meat on the sticks around the fire.

"When you were talking to the guards earlier you mentioned that you had seen a Malikia, was it by any chance different from the one that we fought earlier" Joseph asked as the meat was cooking.

He watched Aven carefully as the boy starred at him.

"That is correct, Sir." Aven finally said after he seem to come to a decision.

"What makes you so sure that it was a different malikia, young man?"

"Well, the one that I saw this morning was smaller, Sir."

"Really, is there anything else" asked Joseph.

When he didn't seem like he was willing or able to carry on Joseph continued instead.

"Earlier when you were fight with the malikia, it made me wonder."

Joseph looked up at the sky.

"Do you know how we knew that there was something wrong this morning Aven."

"Sir?" The boy looked at him but gave nothing away.

"Our senses let us see them coming" Joseph watched Aven out of the corner of his eye, he surpressed a smile "but then you already knew that didn't you?"

———————————————————

Aven froze as he registered what Joseph Randall said. His eyes widening as he sat by the fire staring into the flames.

"You don't have to say anything, soon enough everyone going to the institutes will be learning about sense abilities and skills." Joseph turned to face him.

"I won't asked how or where you started learning but you are already started using at least two of the sense abilities, we have seen this already."

They sat in silence as the fire crackled in the clearing.

"Sense abilities are common and readily available to learn at the institutes." Joseph rose as he spoke.

"Many even arrive with at least a base understanding of sense abilities." Joseph started walking towards the gate.

"Let me give you some advice, Aven. Don't hide what you are capable of, embrace all that you can do."

Aven was left alone the meat still cooking as the last word Joseph said floated on the breeze.

'Embrace all that you can be' Aven raised his glaze to the sky. 'Is that right! Should I?'
