Chapter 15 - Where Are The Malikia Part 6

Joseph uses some of his magic to dry the branches and the ground as he set up to the area for a campfire and to dry the wood. He kept his eyes on Aven as he worked on preparing the fire.

'He is moving so stiffly, and that the makeshift bandage has a red stain on it so it's probably still bleeding.'

Joseph made sure to discreetly watch the boy and kept checking their surroundings.

'It's twice now that these Malikia have been able to go undetected, while Aven not noticing would make sense as he is young, and many wouldn't have the right training yet anyway let alone enough experience to detect anything but the rest of us don't have that excuse.'

He had the branches dry and a area cleared of the snow and set about arranging the branches.

'He is clearly in need of aid, but I don't want to force the issue yet. From everything I have seen and experienced in this village about this boy its clear that he is unuse to people willing to help and his reaction to are talk proves that he has problems trusting people although it is understandable really.'

As the fire was ignited Joseph turned to Aven.

"Come and sit by the fire its warmth will help you."

Aven turned and just looked at him for a second before he blinked and then looked around, finally he reluctantly made his way over.

'You may have trouble with trusting people but at least you will do what you know will help you to survive.'

For a while they stayed there in silence 'how to go about this, I should really check the wound and I really want to know what happen with the newest malikia.'

Aven move to the fire and gradually lowered himself down opposite of Joseph his eyes staring down into the building flames.

As they sat there Joseph reached out in front of him and allowed his magic to open a pocket and removed some meat that he had stored and placed it round the fire to cook. As he finished, he saw that Aven was staring at the place he had opened the pocket.

"Something wrong Aven" Joseph smirked as he tended to the meat that he had placed before looking at Aven.

"Wh what was that?" Aven stuttered as he continued staring.

"What was what?" Joseph responded looking back to the meat.

"What was that magic you just did?" Aven asked as he turned to look Joseph in the eyes.

Joseph could see the curiosity in Aven's eyes and Joseph smiled as he turned the meat and took some to pass to Aven.

"That was pocket magic it can be used in many different ways; the most common way is on equipment but some if they are willing to practice can use the magic alone. Although many do not either know or want to practice when they can pay for something that doesn't require practice or time. "

He past the cooked food to Aven. "Here have some food it will help you recover."

Aven hesitated to take the food before finally choosing to receive the food.

"Would you like to learn the spell; you never know when it might come in handy." Joseph asked Aven as they eat.

"What do you want in return" Aven asked as he stared wearily at Joseph.

Joseph laughed "Nothing, I'm also going to be teaching and helping to train the newest members of Raven's Deep just consider it as starting you training a bit early."

Aven starred at Josph Randall.

'What why would that be what he is thinking about right now' but when he saw the meat that Joseph Randall had taken out. 'That could be a really usefully spell I could carry certain thing, at least then I wouldn't be able to lose or have certain items taken away from me.'

"I, I would like to learn?" Aven whispered as he starred at the flames.

"Excellent, well let's start with some background information." Joseph said between bites of his food.

"How much do you know about magic and spells Aven?" Joseph Randall asked as he leaned back and looked to Aven.

"Hmm, not very much to be honest it wasn't really anything that I got taught by my dad." Aven answered.

"What about with the rest of the village, within the classes?" Joseph Randall asked.

"I wasn't allowed in the classes; dad was the only one that ever taught me anything." Aven said he froze 'what! why did I say that?'

"Well alright then, so the first thing that you should know is that almost everyone can perform magic to some degree especially if they have a talent, but it doesn't mean that everyone will have strong magic. Some never make it passed basic spoken spells. While some will be able to move too the point of nonverbal spell work." Joseph Randall looked to Aven.

"The spell for this is 'complicare crescere, point et aperta', while the wording is important it is equally important to also know what to visualize when you recite the spell. "

"So, I have to visualize the spell, do you mean in my mind like when I try to meditate" Aven asked.

"It is very much the same as how we first learn to centre and meditate yes." Joseph Randall answered.

"The visualization is a major part of the spell, so it is equally important to know what the words mean but the visualization is unique to each person." Joseph Randall looked at Aven. "Complicare means fold and crescere means grow."

"Fold, grow but isn't that a contradiction, wouldn't that mean the opposite." Aven asked "Does the order of visualization matter."

"Yes, the order of the visualization is very important to how the spell functions." Joseph answered.

"So, the order matters" Aven mumbled to himself. 'What can I visualize that folds and grows'.

"Does it have to be the same thing that can both fold and grow or can it be multiple items."

"That depends on the person the stronger the image and the connection the better the spell will work, some people can use multiples, but it is often not the strongest spell produced." Joseph Randall answered.

Aven sat in silence as he thought 'so a single image that can be used for everything in the spell would be better but what could that be.'

As he sat there, he closed his eyes and let himself relax and think, he repeated the words over and over before final as swirling light started to appear. In his mind's eye he saw a galaxy folding into itself and then growing again.

He opened his eye and saw that around his hand was a mixture of light. "Why is it black and gold" Aven whispered.

"hahaha, that will be due to the image that you choose." Joseph Randal stated.

Joseph starred at the Aven as he saw the magic start to take effect.

"Excellent well done so far now then for the next part of the spell 'point et aperta' this part means point and open." Joseph said, 'Let's see what you make of that with your visualization'.

Aven looked back at him for a minute before closing his eyes again.

"Don't forget at the start, to remember to say the words as well as visualize" Joseph reminded 'at least for now' he smirked as he watched the start of the black and gold strands circle around Avens hand.

Aven reached out infront of him as the strands swirled as it started to grow.

"complicare crescere, point et aperta" as Aven finished speaking the magic strands combined and a split formed in front of him and opened out.

'Well would you look at that, he's naturally talented at magic to.' Joseph thought.

"Well done, not bad for your first time" as he spoke, he watched Aven open his eye.

Aven's eye widened in disbelief at what he saw before him.

"By the way how are you feeling, your chest looks like it's still bleeding."
