Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Mavis (rewrite)

"What do you mean, Karna's mother? He has nobody other than us," Cana said with a doubtful expression. "You're just somebody who wants to take him away, and you don't look that old."

"I am older than I look chid" Mavis huffed a bit frustrated that she still looked like a 12-year-old child. "And Karna has my family name. I named him Vermillion, you know."

"Then why are you floating?"

"Ah, well," Mavis stuttered, "it's because of magi—c. Yes, that's right, magic.". she didn't know whether they will run away if she introduces herself as a spirit, which the children will misunderstand as a ghost.

"Really?" Cana was still suspicious.

"Yep! And also, I am the first master of Fairy Tail, you see. You can find my picture in the guild archives."

"Is this girl saying the truth, Karna?" Cana asked while keeping an eye on Mavis.

"Well," I said slowly, "I have heard about it from Granny and Gramps one time, so the first master might be telling the truth."

I was being honest here now. In case of any problems that might arise due to me having my memory since Tenrou Island, I had slowly asked them about myself and gotten appropriate answers, by which I could confirm things by saying that I heard it from them.

"Well, that won't do now, would it?" Mavis mused.

"What?" I replied, confused about what she was thinking.

"I named you, right? So even if every member of the guild is family, you hold a special connection. I can't make you call me 'First Master.'"

"Do we have to?" I sighed.

"Yes, we do," Mavis said, shaking her head with a look that said it was an international problem.

And why was Cana nodding along with it? Wasn't she suspicious before?

After a few minutes, Mavis and Cana were rapidly talking about it.

After half an hour, they were still talking about it.

After two hours, Mavis and Cana came toward me with an expression that said they had done something important.

"Alright, then. We are done," Mavis said.

"From now on, you will call me...

Big Sis Mavis!"

"That took you two hours" were the first words that came to my mind, but thinking about taking care of an annoyed child and an eternal 13-year-old who cries made me swallow the words that almost came out of my mouth.

"Yes, thank you, Mas—"

"Mhmm," Mavis began making noises.

"Big Sis Mavis."

"Alright! Since introductions are over, let's have some fun, shall we?"

That could be said as the beginning of a lot of problems caused by a clumsy ghost master who I have to call Big Sis.

In a desert far away, a man was lying down on the sand. He wore a black wizard dress with a big white sash on one shoulder. His eyes were closed, but suddenly, a wooden puppet came near him.

He took the puppet and pressed its face, which caused a few magic circles to appear.

"Hmm, it seems like the ancient slumbering Drakons are beginning to rise, and the lack of dragons to stop them might cause problems. But whatever it is, it should be dealt with by the people of this era.

Their work will decide whether they survive before the Dragon King Festival this time.

Hmm, Natsu, when are you coming to see me? I wish you could come soon and give me my eternal rest."

Mavis and I were now walking on the outskirts of the forest to hunt a few rabbits.

"So, you usually hunt rabbits every time?" Mavis asked.

"Yes," I replied, "Since I am still underaged, it is a miracle that they even allowed this in the first place."

"Hmm," Mavis had a thoughtful look on her face.

We spent the day with me hunting and both the girls just watching how I did things.

After the hunt, in the evening:

"Karna," Mavis called.

"Yeah?"

"How would you like it if I trained your magic?"

"Really?" This was a great boon. From what I know, Mavis is strategically smarter, and when it comes to spell crafting, she might even be smarter than Zeref—if not for Zeref's long age.

"Hey, what about me?" Cana asked from the side.

"You are welcome too, Cana. I will make sure to completely teach you every basic of magic itself," she said, smiling brightly.

After a Few Weeks

Well, I can say that after a few weeks, I now have better control of my magic. I am able to use less magic when my arrows are summoned, and it also increases their effects based on the rate of magic used.

Mavis started us on the basics of sensing magic, by which I am now able to feel my own magic better and also able to calculate the different effects of my magic.

Then her next step was magic reinforcement, which toughens up our outer body, reducing the chances of injuries.

She also taught us to reinforce in a way to attack by increasing our physical strength with magic.

Seeing the blatant similarities to armament and observation Haki, I decided to test my luck and ask Mavis about anything similar to conqueror's Haki.

From what I hear, it's easy: just combine a bit of mana with the emotion that we are feeling to convey it to others.

But the fainting part is harder because that would require either a massive amount of magic or intent compared to the opponent or ensuring that your opponent is weakened and heavily injured. It has very little effect on the strong-willed ones.

According to Mavis, all these magics do not have a definite limit and can be increased with respect to the wizard that is using them.

[Special Reward for Completing Basic Magic Studies]

Wow, it's been a long time since I saw that.

[Reward: Archer Boots - Gives extreme grip on all surfaces according to the user and also increases agility.]

Well, it looks like my luck is not that bad.

A/N- hope you like the rewrite and corrections.
